Capcom has cleared up confusion regarding the scope of its Resident Evil 2 Remake, caused by a recent statement in a company investor report which was interpreted as saying the game is a "remastered" version of the PlayStation classic.

Taking to Twitter, Capcom UK's senior marketing director, Stuart Turner, said "a few people picking up a mistranslation" of the investor report, and confirmed the game is a "full from the ground up remake, NOT a remaster."

In a video released on August 12, Capcom revealed it is remaking Resident Evil 2. The project is being headed up by Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, producer of the Resident Evil HD Remaster released in January 2015, and Capcom R&D Division 1.

In the video Hirabayashi said the project was given the go ahead by senior Capcom staff as a result of the "incredible passion and support" from fans of the game and the series.

"You've been telling us for years that you want Resident Evil 2 to be remade, and we haven't been able to make it happen... until now," he said. "We at R&D Division 1 will do our best to take on your feedback and deliver the gameplay experience you've been waiting for."

The development effort is in the very early stages of development, so Hirabayashi said "it will be some time before [Capcom] can bring you an update on this project."

"As the title is only just starting its development cycle we unfortunately don't have any additional information or assets to share at this time ... For now we want our fans to know that we appreciate all the feedback and support we've received on this title. We're looking forward to delivering this highly anticipated Resident Evil experience that fans have been waiting for."

Capcom's last Resident Evil HD Remaster was released in January 20 on consoles and PC. It broke sales records for the company, becoming the fastest selling digital title in its history across North America and Europe. To follow this up, Capcom announced the remaster of Gamecube exclusive Resident Evil Zero.

Is this mass trend of RE remakes a sign of Capcom knowing how crappy their RE games are these days?

@z827: Maybe. Or maybe they're revamping the new games completely. And these remakes are just to tide them over during development. They have made statements that suggest they know they have a problem. That is the first step.

@wkadalie: Now the "key factor" lies in whether they'll mess up the remakes or make them a true spiritual remake of the original game.
Either way, it's rare for a company to know and admit that they're crap and wants to change for the better - let's just hope they have the right idea.

@z827: Well, looking at their current track record... (bringing revelations to consoles, making a sequel to it, then bringing back RE4 and REmake to test the waters), I'd say they're willing to change for the better, i'm also hearing part of the team doing REmake 2 also worked on REmake so... It should be in good hands

@roler42: Lol bringing back RE4. RE4 is on every system ever in the history of time. It wouldn't shock me if they literally went back and started making Dreamcast and PS1 and N64 ports of RE4, as fucking oversaturated as that stupid game is.

They weren't testing the waters with RE4 HD rererererererelease - that was just pure profit. REmake, yes, they were gauging whether people still gave fucks about real resident evil, the way that millions of us have been saying we do for over a decade since they ruined the franchise with this action trash. And they realized "Oh wait so our real fans actually do still want the old style back. I see. Here, Smithers, give them the same games they've already bought 8 copies of but let's kind of change them."

@7tizz: RE2 has not been remade, RE0 hasn't been remade - just remastered, RE3 has not been remade or remastered, the code veronica remaster was shitty, RE outbreak 1 and 2 have not been remade, and RE4 got an HD treatment. Not to mention gun survivor 1 and 2 haven't been remade, Umbrella chronicles got a remaster, and no one gives a **** about Gaiden.

@7tizz: Hmm, pretty sure only RE1 & RE4 has been remade/remaster..fans has been asking for RE2 remake for a long time but never happen till now, closest thing Capcom put out to that was Umbrella Chronicles & Darkside Chronicles (Wii). :P

@superbuuman: Well Code Veronica also got the face-lift treatment as well but I wouldn't state Resi 4 has been "remade" they've just gone through HD filters with some new lighting effects.

What people ain't getting is like the original Resident Evil this is a full-blown remake.
