Rockstar renews Agent trademarks

Grand Theft Auto developer renews trademarks for dormant PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Rockstar has renewed a pair of trademarks for its long-dormant game Agent.

As spotted on Siliconera, the two trademarks relate to the name Agent and the game's logo, which features a gun as the inside section on the G.

Agent was announced in 2009 as a PlayStation 3 exclusive, although the game has not been seen since outside of a brief glimpse at some of its concept art in 2011. Rockstar has previously said the stealth action game would be set in the Cold War era.

When asked about the status of Agent back in 2012, CEO of Rockstar parent company Take-Two Strauss Zelnick would comment only that "we haven't announced anything about [Agent] yet."

Rockstar has not confirmed any other projects after the release of Grand Theft Auto V, which launches on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in September.

We have two options here either it comes out any multiple platforms or it is dead in the water. Rockstar cannot afford to make a game for one system alone.

@Snakepond1 Rockstar could afford to release it on the Wii if they wanted to. Are you forgetting nearly 90% of their titles developed and released were best sellers and continue selling even throughout their newer title releases? Not to mention they can afford to run 10 developement studios and they are backed by multi-million $ enterprises like Take two (parent company), who earned roughly $800 million so far this year. Also let's not forget R* will rack in tonnes with the GTA V release this year as well, which will add to Take Twos revenue.

Are we talking about how much money Rockstar has in the bank or the fact they will not make there money back? If you want a Rockstar quality game on one console then no way they make there money back.

@Snakepond1 Yes, that's generally what happens when you restrict a game to 1 console. Just because they won't get as much money as releasing it on multiple consoles, doesn't meant they can't afford to do it.

Rockstar does not care for single consoles anymore. These guys go what they want. They don't even attend e3. If Rockstar wanted to do The Agent exclusive to PS3 they would have and they did not because Rockstar are kings of the gaming industry and exclusives platform games means nothing to them.

@Snakepond1 Well yes its obvious they'd make more money if they made it multi-plat which I hope they do but Rockstar would have no problem with releasing on a single console.

Their a pretty big publisher, it wouldn't kill them if it failed.

@roganth @FRANK_SINGH ya but it would be better seeing and playing it on ps4......coz i dont think ppl r gonna buy it on ps3....and their r many reasons for it......the main being the graphics.

It seems Rockstar will now be making the effort to get Agent finished. Either way, it was meant to be a PS3 exclusive, so it's probably a PS4 exclusive now.

Sony mentioned new IPs within the PS4's first year. This could be one of many.

If this game ever sees the light of day, it will likely be on PS4. It would explain why it has been delayed for so long. On the other hand, they may just want to renew the trademark as a precaution in case they actually do decide to develop the game in the future. My guess is it's still a long ways off.

I have a feeling it will be. The connection between rockstar and sony is massive they have been making games for sony ever since playstation 1 sanadreas was ported to xbox after it realesed on ps2. RDR la noire and gta iv were all supposed to be exclusive to playstation but obviously they would rather have more sales become a bit more bigger so i dont see why it would be a playstation exclusive

@23Jarek23 @bankai_456 LA Noire was supposed to be a PS3 exclusive with Team Bondi, but when Rockstar got involved they wanted it released on 360. They agreed with Sony to transfer exclusivity to a new game - Agent. So Rockstar owes Sony an exclusive game, be it on PS3/PS4 or both.

i remember hearing a news about this game, than it never released, i guess they will be thinking of switching it to next gen because of new consoles that why they are not saying anything about it yet.
