Steam logs 5 million concurrent users

So... There are 30M+ users, with 5M active on a single day... Right, piracy is ruining PC gaming and no PC gamer actually pays for anything. To the consoles! /sarcasm

Out of curiosity, I entered in Steam the old CD key from my HL1 jewel case from about ten years ago. Much to my surprise, not only did it allow me to download HL1, but it was the whole Platinum Pack (I believe it was called). HL1, TF Classic, CS, and whatever else was included. I

Steam has ruined gaming for me. I have too many games that I purchased on sale. Now I can't decide what to play.

5 million is a big number for a 'dead' medium.

I find in a way that there are almost too many games on steam. There is so much choice making decisions can be hard.

It's hard to ignore Steam with those great games on sale last month.

5 million user and Ea Manager come and say we don't sell our game on steam.......

steams is nice and all but it have some annoying habits too if you use it you will know what i mean

I really like Steam - very pleased to see it do well. Plus they do sometimes do some great games deals!

Hah, this news show that still people like to play PC games & their are some people who still thinks PC gaming is dead.

I wouldn't use steam if I didn't have to to install skyrim. I like TF2, but it crashes and glitches so often and takes so long to get running again that it's hardly worth it.

I signed up for Steam a while back, but had removed it from my computer(s) because I wasn't using it. Then I received a code for Batman: Arkham City from a friend who had an extra code from purchasing dual GPU's while upgrading his computer. The code was for Steam. So I downloaded again and have been playing games on it recently. I even bought a couple of other games during the holiday fire sales. Now I'm on a fast-track to saving up for new computer parts so I can actually run Batman on my machine on a higher resolution and with at least some of the graphical features turned on. I like Steam so far. It seems to be a good platform. I can't speak much of the community features because I don't do much communicating on the service. I prefer to play on console, but I am looking to invest in an Xbox 360 wireless controller adapter for PC so I can use my Xbox 360 controller to play games on my PC.

When you read that it sounds like it will be totally able to crush Origins....which is a good thing :D

It might be because lot of games start to force us to keep steam open to play a game now. I don't say it's bad but might be a reason why the number of concurrent users increase so fast.

Steam actually is one of the best things on earth :)

Digital download is the reason PC games are coming off the shelves. I use to hate Steam but it has improved greatly over the last couple years. It makes it easy for keeping games up to date. Great deals as well. I bought a few good titles over the holidays for just a couple dollars.

Steam is a great example of how to run a service that benefits both developers and players. Pretty interesting that none of their competition wants to admit that.

as long as the company doesn't abuse their pseudo monopoly. for the record- so far they have given great deals and have been much more generous then they have to.

good news for PC gamers. see PC gaming is not death :)
