Street Fighter 5 producer Yoshinori Ono has discussed Capcom's decisions to de-emphasise the focus on female bodies, saying the change wasn't a result of external pressures.

Speaking to UOL Jogos, Ono explained aspects of the game such as R.Mika's Critical Art and Cammy's entrance, which were scrutinised for the attention paid to the female characters' bodies, were also flagged internally at Capcom.

"We didn't make any changes due to external influences," he said. "These changes came up internally. We decided to remove [the animations] because we want as many people to play as possible, and we do not want something that might make someone uncomfortable."

In early versions of the the Street Fighter 5 beta R. Mika, a female wrestler, was shown slapping her rear when executing her Critical Art. After the update, her behind isn't in frame when she slaps it.

Cammy, meanwhile, is now framed so that her behind is also out of shot during her entrance animation. Previously it was in-shot, and the camera was low enough so that her crotch area could clearly be seen. A comparison of both animations, before and after the changes, can be seen here.

In the interview, Ono continued to say Capcom wants "professional players and casual fans [to come back] again" for the new game, but to also "reach those who never even played a fighting game."

He continued: "There cannot be something [in the game] that makes people think, 'this is not acceptable.' We probably won't be able to remove everything that might offend someone, but our goal is to at least reduce that number as much as possible to think 'okay, there's this issue here, but its within the limits.' We want everyone to play and enjoy [the game] without worrying about anything else."

Capcom has announced a new beta test period for Street Fighter 5 which will begin on December 18. The beta will be available on PlayStation 4 and PC.

The Street Fighter 5 release date has been confirmed as February 16, 2016. During PlayStation Experience 2015, Capcom revealed the final launch character is Fang, a character that uses poison attacks.

Following launch, Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Juri, and Urien will be released as new characters. Each one is earnable through gameplay for free. Those that want to get them immediately can purchase the 2016 Season Pass, which is available to pre-purchase now in North America.

@ferna1234: One is likely to be found in the ring, the other you're likely to find in a porno with something in her ring. Giant boobs are great 'n all, but they really don't add anything to the experience of a fighting game.

@Kunakai: its a freaking game, the could be no floor and it could work just as well. They're fictional characters created by capcom, they're free to make them how the hell they want. It is not about making sense, its about some kind of bullying revenge from a handfull frustrated women. I understand gender violence is a horrible thing, but you wont help any beaten woman by reducing cup sizes in videogames. Parents play a much bigger role there than some asian artists.

@ferna1234: "I understand gender violence is a horrible thing, but you wont help any beaten woman by reducing cup sizes in videogames." - That's not the point though, is it? The point is for the industry to be more inclusive where it makes sense, and while you might not see so many tits because of it, I expect the wider audience will benefit.

@Kunakai: Censoring stuff does nothing to be "inclusive". It does the contrary.

@nurnberg: Inclusive of audience. It's supposed to be a fighting game, not a sexual fantasy simulator.

@KunakaiI It suppose to be whatever the Company or culture deems it to be lol. just because you don't like , If you want an ultra realistic non cartoony fighting game without fantastical sexy character Fine you got enough garabage in your own with 2 shades of color and hyper realistic culture to suit your needs . Keep your american garabage away from other culture . :

@Kunakai: and why they should? If people want to see big boobs give them big boobs, why defy human nature because of 200 years old American puritan ethics

@tanerb Er For Americans inclusive usually means catering to christian sensitivity and American social problems and puritan cultural values . And I've seen this in race the idea of the ambiguous brown character not counting to diversity, That certain character don't count because there not specifically African American but "Brown so they don't count to Inclusive . and I am black so yeah that horse shit doesn't have to be African Americans . Not everything has to be model around US sensibility the specific of US race issue . It was the same deal with the Witcher as a black person I really could care less that a culture that 98 % polish made a game for polish people , with a 1 % Eastern European population . I am not going to argue yeah the witcher need to be a generic bioware game and include random black people into it . Bioware it at least make sense it catering to it population which has people like me in it . Make zero sense , and make even less sense for the Japanese to cater to Anything from ignorant Americans ranting on about diversity one moment and Xenophobic as hell the next moment .: off topic Street fighter is popular because it made in japan , You want your own water down cartoon game that include all American sensibility make that crap yourself bizarre demanding capcom japan to cater to are "sensitivity " complete nonsense

I think this is a good move, similar to what they did with MK.

@maxguevera

What's great about MKX is this mindset:

-Slowly pull someone's intestines out through their own mouth and dozens of Fatalities that are a step up in their graphic presentation..... but no revealing clothing!!

-Punch someone so hard in the crotch that their testicles explode into spurts of blood ... but make sure no penis exists in the shot and that the breasts are hard as rocks! Depictions of human anatomy, internal organs, bones breaking, skulls shattering, brains, hearts ripped out are all good. But WOAH on those SPECIAL PLACES!!

@GlaciusXL: Well you've got to pick your battles I guess. I agree the X-ray moves are stupid but at least the are not singling out a particular gender, everyone gets the same treatment.

@maxguevera: Johnny Cage being able to punch women in the crotch in MK9 and MKX is a great example of really pushing forward in the strive for equality. And groups didn't even have to fight to get it with #vagpunch. Maybe they just didn't know of the special treatment the dudes were getting.

@GlaciusXL: You've missed the point of my original comment. The MK developers have said they changed the look of they're female characters to make them more realistic. This was a decision internally without any outside pressure, same as what is happening in SFV. Your argument seems to be more MK focused... I'm out.
