Street Fighter IV gets its own HDTVs

Roundtable Concepts introduces a range of LED sets branded with brawler's characters and officially licensed by Capcom.

Branded accessories are one way game companies can capitalize on a particularly diehard fan base. When some gamers find a new favorite title, simply buying a $60 game might not be enough. They might supplement their craving for the game with a plethora of branded trinkets, including novels, headsets, joysticks, night-vision goggles, or perhaps even a 46-inch HDTV.

Roundtable Concepts is betting that the market for that last one is largely underserved, as the company today announced its line of officially licensed Street Fighter IV HDTVs. Set to launch in the coming weeks, the LED TVs will be available in 32-inch, 40-inch, 42-inch, and 46-inch sizes and will feature the customer's favorite Street Fighter character or logo on the bottom corners of the casing. Additionally, when the TVs are turned on, they will display a Street Fighter graphic for eight seconds.

A Street Fighter splash screen will display for eight seconds every time the TV is turned on.
A Street Fighter splash screen will display for eight seconds every time the TV is turned on.

Roundtable Concepts already sells a number of licensed HDTVs. The company has a full line of TVs featuring Marvel Comics characters, as well as a handful of "Team View" sets for fans of college football. Fans can now show their school spirit whenever they sit down to watch the boob tube, provided they are fans of the University of Miami, the University of Central Florida, Florida State, or The University of Florida. The college-branded HDTVs even have celebrity endorsements, with former Florida quarterback Danny Wuerffel raving, "Team View really does make it better!"

SgtStrungOut Why is Capcom doing this? Is it to attract more false fans to SF? *************************************************************** It all for money of course. Because SSFIV is the hot item right now, Capcom feels gamers will buy anything related to the SSF brand. It's silly though to think a lot of these would sell. Only the wealthy who much have every gaming novelty is going to buy this. I'm waiting to get a Samsung 3D HDTV next year. I would love to see Avatar and about 10 other movies in 3-D at home. I'm waiting for reviews and the best deal.

Curly21029 is right and you can thumb me down all you want as it only displays your tech ignorance. If you don't "game" on a plasma, you are really missing out.

wow instead of having that show up for eight seconds they could had have some features like making the SKIN of the TV SF or when it comes to normal TV options if you just want to watch cable or something, they could make the menu in SF words, have the remote with a SF skin, or just send everyone who ordered a TV a monthly whore. lol

Huh... that's... interesting... Okay what the heck. Every time you turn on the darn thing you have to look at an 8 second Street Fighter load screen. Who on the he'll at that company came up with that idea? I mean don't get me wrong, I am as much a fan of the series as the next guy but having to sit through an 8 second theme load screen isn't my cup of tea. I mean just think about this a little... Say a normal person turn on the tv 2 times a day, there are 31 days a month and 365 days a year. Let's just say this tv lasts 5 years... 8(seconds) x 2(times a day) = 16(seconds a day), 16 x 31(days a month) = 496(seconds a month), 496 x 12(months in a year) = 5,952(seconds a year), 5,952 x 5(tv lifespan) = 29,760. Now let's turn that into hours. 29,760 seconds • 60 = 496, 496 minutes • 60 = over 8 hours. So over the lifespan of this tv if someone turns it on only two times a day they will have to sit through over 8 hours of a street fighter logo screen.

8 secs EVERY time I turn the TV on? I love SF, but I'm pretty sure, that I would either throw the TV out of my window, or scratch my retinas out after one week...

@ firesage actually, (i too could be wrong on this) but Active shutter 3d (which all the decent 3d tv's will use) has been used with nvidia graphics cards for the last couple of years. its called stereoscopic 3d. so no, it's not new, it's been working on 120hz monitors for a while. Samsung were the first to produce those i believe.

there are some 3D tvs out now at future shop but yes, ill probably wait tell after the summer, im sure it is worth it, sony always seems on top of the technology with inovating new ways to make things better or improve technology, as they were the first to bring blu ray and 3D TVs, unless im messing some information, so ill probably wait to see how they improve on this technology, its still quite new

lol, one of the most classless things i've seen in a while. The only way i'd consider that, is if it costs a third of the normal model of the screen (without the SF nonsense).

It might not seem like it, but 8 seconds is quite a bit, they should cut the time in half.

"A SF splash screen will display for 8 seconds" ~ 8 seconds!! ~ "every time the TV is turned on"... Why would anyone want that? When i wanna watch TV, I want it NOW.. not after 8 seconds I pass.. i'd like a Full HD-3D, LED please..

I am buying a new HDTV in a couple months, but it wont be this, first of all i want a 52 inch or higher and second of all i want the best technology of a tv i can get so then it actually might stay at the top of technology of tvs for a week before something better comes out and these TVs do not speak high end technology to me, and thirdly, im not that big of a fan or that big of a nerd, it would be kinda imbarrassing to sit down and show of my brand new tv to my friends and my girlfriend and then they turn it on and see super street fighter 4 steering back at them, and i dont get imbarrassed easily, its just, this is kinda extreme and very nerd like, ill just get a normal high end technology TV thank you very much

This is insane and it's not going to sell. Super Street Fighter 4 just got a price drop recently (check Amazon and Gamestop) and it has not even been out for a month yet. So how do they expect this HDTV to sell well and come on, at least put more effort into it and add some neat features.

sounds a little funny but the only way i'll get it is if you can update it cause i'm not going to get a tv that says street fighter 4 when 5 or 6 is coming out. The whole 8 second thing dont bother me.

This "licensing" idea is great for hardcore fans. However, Capcom should see to it that those licensed HDTV's will not suffer from input lag.

I don't want to think about how much theses are going to cost but I like the idea of tvs made specifically toward gamers even if its just a old tv line in a new case. The big thing is going to be price for one of these.
