Tonight during the 2012 Video Game Awards show, a new trailer for Naughty Dog's The Last of Us revealed a May 7, 2013 release date for the PlayStation 3 exclusive The game was previously scheduled to launch sometime during next year.

The Last of Us was announced in December 2011 with no release window, but in February, a Game Informer report indicated the game would ship in either late 2012 or early 2013.

The Last of Us is Naughty Dog's first game outside of the Uncharted universe since 2005. It is a postapocalyptic survival game set in the United States that follows the efforts of main characters Joel and Ellie as they fight to survive.

Curious. Given that all have predicted GTAV will be coming out in May, I cannot help wondering if ND know something we don't. Otherwise it seems foolish to release this game in a month that, if it is coming out, will be dominated by Rockstar.

@AjenoMerveilles I'm infinitely (ha!) more excited by Bioshock and Last of Us than GTAV. I'll wait to buy one of the 100's of copies used at Gamestop two months later at half price. True story.

Nope, I've been following this rule of buying only one console per year (home or handheld) and the PS3 is looking to be my console purchase of 2013.

Plus I highly doubt that the PS4 will launch with enough games that will appeal to me (no way am I saying that it will be a bad launch though). 2014 will probably be when I decide between Sony or Microsoft's next console.

This looks like ANOTHER fantastic game from Naughty Dog.
