This Is Now the Most-Requested Game for Xbox One Backwards Compatibility

Red Dead Redemption no longer holds the top spot.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is now the game most requested to receive backwards compatibility support on Xbox One. The game has overtaken Red Dead Redemption, which had held the top spot for several weeks.

Following Microsoft's E3 announcement of backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games on Xbox One, the company posted a poll on its website asking users to vote for which 360 games they want to receive support on the new console. Rockstar's 2010 game Red Dead Redemption quickly rose to the top of the charts, but now Black Ops II has edged it out.

The Call of Duty series is highly requested; there are six Call of Duty games in the top 12. A list of the top 15 most-requested games at the time of this writing is below:

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops II
  2. Red Dead Redemption
  3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
  4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
  5. Halo: Reach
  6. Call of Duty: Black Ops
  7. Gears of War 3
  8. Fallout 3
  9. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
  10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3
  11. Mass Effect 3
  12. Call of Duty: World at War
  13. BioShock Infinite
  14. Fallout: New Vegas
  15. Left 4 Dead 2

Black Ops II was originally at the top of the list for a short time after the poll went live, but was soon beaten by Red Dead Redemption.

The votes are a way for Microsoft to gauge interest in which games to make backwards compatible, but the company cautions that not all of these games will receive support. Currently, only a handful of games are supported, but Microsoft is planning to make more backwards compatible over the coming months.

Recently, Head of Xbox Phil Spencer stated that backwards compatibility helps sell Xbox One systems. Microsoft has also promised to make "hundreds" of 360 games playable on Xbox One by the end of this year.

Which games would you like to see made backwards compatible? Let us know in the comments.

All the people voting for Call of Duty's should just save their votes. There is no way Activision will let Call of Duty be backwards compatible. If they are re-releases games nobody asked for like Prototype 1 & 2 then they will be re-releasing the COD games also but for $40 each.

Actually I really see M$ doing it any way. If M$ was allowed to release games to run on the 360 software then in reality it is still doing that just in a shinny new big ass box. BO3 releases this Nov, and I dont see BC being released tell DEC. This is just one mans opinion, so It hold zero weight.

Nooooooooooooooooooo!

Deep breaths. Deep breaths.

Son of a birch tree. Of all the great games on 360 why so many COD? I hope they just add the most popular COD choice and leave the rest of them for the second or third batch.

It just says that BO2 is better than any other new COD :-)
I wished Skyrim would vanish from votes so Bethesda can make a remaster for the X1 or port the pc version.
I just think that Skyrim would make much more fun with better graphics then what X360 offered.

@sladakrobot: Eh, the graphics don't make the game anymore special, not if you're looking at x360 versus regular PC version. It's the mods that really bring the TES and Fallout games to life, it'd be great if they could introduce that to console users, but imo a marginal graphics upgrade isn't gonna do much, trust me, it doesn't look amazing on PC by any means (without mods).

There's only 3 games I'd love to be able to play on my Xbox one

1. Shadowrun, best fps out there to this day

2. Gears of war 3 just because it was my favorite

3. Red dead redemption because its awesome

I hate that games need to be added one by one. What if they don't add Vanquish and Deadly Premonition?

@Bread_or_Decide: Whoever said they would be released one by one? They have to be worked on, packaged with the emulator and tested individually but will probably be released in batches. The reason they need publisher permission (which they didn't on the 360 using original Xbox titles) is due to the way they have gone about using a virtual machine - since Microsoft has to redistribute the games over Live (i.e. they don't run directly from the disc), they need permission from the publisher/distributor to distribute these as they were never licensed to be released on the One. Wasn't a deal on the 360 since they ran from the original disc so there was no new distribution of the titles.

LOL and I bet Activision is probably regretting making the deal with PS4 if COD is still popular to play on Xbox consoles.

@davillain-: CoD is still (and will most likely continue to be) popular to play on ALL systems. If Activision released black ops 3 for toasters it would probably sell well.

@mr_azim: Worst? Have you not played the last couple of CoD games?

The fact that it's at the top of the BC request list shows that your opinion is not a popular one.

In my opinion, it's easily the best of the series.

Since the games don't even play any better than they did on the previous system, it's kind of a waste of time, especially since you can get an Xbox 360 for dirt these days.

Lol man all I can do is laugh at this, nearly EVERY SINGLE GAME is first person, and a shooter. I honestly don't understand the requests for CoD... EVERY CoD... what the hell people?! There's already two of them on next-gen consoles... and another just around the corner, ugh...

@nl_skipper: Could be because those old CoD games are better than the new ones. I'd rather play CoD4 or Black Ops 2 than any of the shooters on the new systems so far.

It's still really sad, of all the unique and special games that came out of last gen, all people can come up with is "More CoD... ALL THE COD!!"... really...? That's what people want to play on their new system...? A bunch of old games that play the same are still getting sequels every year?

Why do people like Black Ops 2 so much? Personally I thought it was one of the worst Call of Duty games. Black Ops 2 is when they started celebrating and encouraging d-bag play styles and tactics that take zero skill and rely on broken hit detection and auto aim like quick scoping and drop shooting. Plus it's also when they started using lag compensation. It's probably the kids that watch people stream games instead of actually playing games that like Black Ops 2.

I really don't think backwards compatibility is as much of a system seller as some people are thinking.

Sure you can vote on a title, why not, it doesn't cost anything.

But will people really want to play through Modern Warfare 2 or Fallout 3 all over again in the new generation? Like, enough to spend $300 on a new console? I have serious doubts.

As an owner of neither console, I find the PlayStation Now route considerably more attractive. The library will be vastly bigger, and I don't even need a PlayStation or a pile of games to use it, many of which I imagine would have already been sold last year.

@naryanrobinson: LOL, you'd rather rent an inferior, streamed version than play the ones you already own or can pick up used or on sale for a pittance to play in Backwards Compatibility? What is wrong with you? How much is SONY paying you to promote that cheap cash grab?

@jonexotic: Well... yeah. I mean, it's a pretty amazing service if you think about it. As well as all the stuff I mentioned, it's triple backward compatible, back to 1994. That's a lot of value.

I usually stay away from subscriptions of any sort besides my internet connection, but yeah, I definitely think I'd subscribe to this, if I didn't have so many Steam games to get through on my PC right now.

@flyincloud1116: Aside from the fact Advanced Warfare sucked donkey dick and Black Ops 3 doesn't look much better? I think the games on the list I'm looking forward to are Bioshock Infinite(it never made it out of my backlog) New Vegas(never finished it) and Skyrim. I think all 3 Mass Effect games are on my list as well, with ME1 sitting in my disc tray now.
