Timothee Chalamet Reveals Important Acting Advice He Received: No Hard Drugs And No Superhero Movies

"One of my heroes--I can't say who or he'd kick my ass--he put his arm around me the first night we met and gave me some advice. No hard drugs and no superhero movies."

Actor Timothee Chalamet has revealed the important advice he received from one of his "heroes," and it might not be what you'd expect. Speaking to Time Magazine, Chalamet declined to share the name of the person, but he did impart the wisdom he received.

"One of my heroes--I can't say who or he'd kick my ass--he put his arm around me the first night we met and gave me some advice. No hard drugs and no superhero movies," Chalamet said.

Chalamet's career has been taking off since he starred in 2017's Call Me By Your Name and received an Academy Award nomination for his leading role. Before that, he played Matthew McConaughey's son in Christopher Nolan's Interstellar. One of his next major projects is movie Dune, which is getting great reviews ahead of its release in the US on December 22.

He is also lined up to play a young Willy Wonka in the movie Wonka from Paddington director Paul King. Chalamet recently revealed the first images from the film, showing off his Wonka costume. The movie will be at least in part a musical, as Chalamet told Time that he recently spent time at the world famous Abbey Road studios to record music.

"I felt out of my league," He said. "Like I was desecrating history! It's not mining the darker emotions in life, it's a celebration of being off-center and of being O.K. with the weirder parts of you that don't quite fit in."

@Zacek: If it was, it would be pretty hypocritical for him to say considering he did popcorn flicks like PotC and was Tonto in The Lone Ranger, which were arguably WORSE than any superhero movie done in 15 years.

Reminds me of 1990's and my Uncle giving me awesome advice

" It's not a coincidence that we(our family) are Irish & alcoholics.

Don't drink in the daytime unless it's a special event etc & avoid hard liquor"

~Surprisingly only me & my brother we're spared and i owe it to this rule..

Looking back I don't even recall it being an issue.

This is a good rule for anyone with a family history of any abuses or whatevs.

Consider it if you are 18 or 19 about to enter into that life.

@nabinator: I think its fairly obvious his advice is if you're an up and coming actor doing a superhero movie is good for the short term but risky for your career in the longterm, not to mention there's obviously a large portion of hollywood that sees them as lazy art

@march202002: Pick any metric. Timothee Chalamet has a bigger name than Tom Holland in terms of character length, I'll give him that.

Your little hero better be your dad because your hero is telling you what to do with your career but hes not gonna help you when its down. Way to brag about someone not worth name dropping.

The key to the 'no superhero' movies is that it doesn't lock you up long term. Look how long all the Avengers cast has been stuck playing those characters. I imagine it severely limits their availability to sign onto many other movies.

@Seymour47: RDJ, Evans, Jackson, literally all of them, have done a whole lot of movies even after getting signed to marvel. Its not like they punch in 40 hours a week to film a movie. There's years between them.

@chubby170: Do you even know what job security is? Actors do an episode or a film and they get paid once for it. Granted, they may get paid quite a bit based on what the role is, but it's still just one paycheck.

@BLKCrystilMage: hahahahha. Do you?? If the reason for not taking a super hero role is because you will be stuck making the same movies for 10 years.. then yes, thats exactly what Job Security would be. Security moreso than not being sure what movie you would be doing next, if any.

And by the time you are done, you wouldnt ever have to work again...

@chubby170: You're assuming that you will, in fact, be continuing to star in box-office-record films for a full decade. Remind me, what are John Boyega and Daisy Ridley up to these days?

@BLKCrystilMage: John Boyega burned a lot of bridges in Hollywood (deservedly so or not), so there's zero surprise he's not working.

Daisy Ridley is a trash actor so there's no surprise here either that she's not breaking out.

And neither of them starred in superhero movies, so I'm wondering how their careers are relevant to the conversation?

@zerojuice: You said it yourself: Daisy Ridley can't get arrested in Hollywood. If you think the advice Chalamet was given meant "superhero movies are bad for your career" then you missed the point.

@chubby170: Well, when you truly love films, you don't want to make the same films over and over and over and over and over and over again for 15 years and after that being type cast and not being able to play any other role because nobody will see the character but only your super-hero persona. Including directors and producers.

So before passing judgement, think a little bit.

@LVT_PTA_PB: Well to be fair. Chris Evens was type casted for super hero movies long before MCU. He was the human torch in the first 2 live action Fantastic Four movies xD Even after the Rise of the Silver Surfer bombed he still took on hero roles It's kinda his thing.

@LVT_PTA_PB: But that not only applies to super hero movies. Look what happend to Mark Hamill, in contrast look what happend to Harrison Ford.

@skyx26: Wait... what in the blue f**k are you talking about? Harrison Ford went on to having one of the greatest careers in Hollywood, post-Star Wars. And Mark Hamill is a god among nerds, and arguably one of the best voice actors to have ever lived.

I'm pretty sure both of them are doing just fine. Especially being as neither have been type cast as a womanizing space pirate or a nerdy farm boy with magic powers for the rest of their careers.

@zerojuice: Yeah, Harrison Ford make a lot of movies and don't just stay as Han Solo or Indiana Jones, but in retrospective Mark Hamill was SO seen as Luke Skywalker that he choose to stop being an actor to become a voice actor... wich again, encase him being the default voice for the Joker.

@skyx26: didn’t he also get into a severe accident that derailed his career for a while? I think it was also a reason he pivoted to voice acting.
