Tomb Raider reboot coming to Mac

Feral Interactive porting action game to Mac later this year; unclear if DLC and microtransactions will be available.

Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider reboot will be released on Mac later this year via a port from Feral Interactive, the company announced today.

"We're excited to bring Tomb Raider to the Mac, and in doing so introduce a new audience to Lara Croft's original story," Square Enix head of product development Darrell Gallagher said. "This is one more step on the road to achieving everything we wanted with the game."

Details regarding pricing, system requirements, and multiplayer support will be announced at a later date, Feral Interactive said.

It was not mentioned if Tomb Raider's various downloadable expansions or numerous microtransactions would be supported on the Mac version of the game.

Tomb Raider launched in March 2013 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Despite having the strongest first-week sales in franchise history and achieving 4 million copies sold overall, the game failed to meet commercial expectations for Square Enix.

Crystal Dynamics is currently working on a sequel for next-generation consoles.

@enoslives7 Some one did not play the reboot. You should. One of the best games to come out this year. Might be up for game of the year. I don't think that will happen but it should be in the running for it.

I always bought the original games, but only ever "when I got around to it"... I was never a big fan of them.

This however, is a whole different beast and unlike the original games, IS a game I would rush-out to purchase on!

If you haven't played this yet and/or you base your opinion off the original games, you're doing yourself an injustice... Grab a copy of this game and take it for a spin - you'll be VERY surprised!

@2tonjunk @enoslives7 yep this is the first tomb raider I ever finished...after the very first Tomb Raider...it's an awesome game.... and this time not about XXXXXL Boobs...and XXXXXL Asses that need 780GTX in SLI to be rendered properly :)

@2tonjunk @edviges Same here. My reason for going with an AMD card is that this game was included (with bioshock infinite). since I planned on purchasing both games anyway I figured, why not get a better card and not have to spend the money on the games.

Great game; far better than any of the preceding titles... It needs to be on as many platforms as possible -- which SHOULD be true for ALL great games/series. Screw the platform fanboyism. ...but likewise, screw having to buy/maintain all platforms.

Is this really in demand? I mean is the mac community just itchin to play this? You would think that any mac owner who is a gamer, has a console dedicated to games due to the basically baron library. Plus the fact that anyone who was interested in this game has most likely played it by now, and if not, i doubt that the promise of playing on the mac is a that enticing.

I really don't see the point. I mean good for the Mac users but the game has been around for some time now. Also the user base for mac is still low.

Hopefully we'll see a Linux version of this game instead, seeing as how Steambox will bring more Linux gamers to the table than Mac OS has ever.

Well if they ever want to release this for the upcoming Steam Machines (which run the Linux-based Steam OS), they're going to need to do a port sooner or later...

Otherwise, Square Enix are just hurting themselves.
