Top 10 UK Sales Chart: Persona 5 Is Series' Biggest Launch Ever

Persona charts well in its debut week.

Persona 5 has finished top of the UK physical games chart in its first week on sale, as Mass Effect: Andromeda tumbles from No.1 to No.5 in the week ending April 8. Altus's title is the first JRPG to top the UK chart since 2013's PlayStation 3 exclusive Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, and it's the biggest Persona launch ever in the UK.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Wildlands maintains its position at No.2, as does Lego Worlds at No.3. Grand Theft Auto V continues to chart well at No.4.

Now Playing: Persona 5 Review

Another Lego title, Lego City Undercover, re-enters the chart this week at No.8 following its release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The open-world game originally released for Wii U in 2013.

The rest of the chart is made up of many familiar faces; check out the full list below courtesy of sales monitor Chart-Track. Note this table does not include digital sales data, and so should not be considered representative of all UK game sales.

Person 5 has now shipped over 1.5 million copies worldwide. Its success follows an excellent critical reception, in which GameSpot awarded it 9/10.

"Persona 5 is a game that shouldn't be missed," said our reviewer, Lucy James. "It's stuffed to bursting point with gameplay ideas and presentation flourishes--there's an overwhelming level of artistry in every part of Persona 5, making it a truly standout entry in the series. It's a refined, effortlessly stylish RPG that will be talked about for years to come."

Mass Effect: Andromeda, meanwhile, recently got a patch promising to fix many of the game's flaws. Check out what the sci-fi game's facial animations look like now it's been updated.

Damn, what happened to Horizon Zero Dawn? Nice to see Zelda still going strong even though Nintendo Switch is still hard to get.

@iandizion713: What happen to Horizon Zero Dawn? That game was release this past February and now it's April, everyone already played the game and Persona 5 just release so it was time to move on from Zero Dawn.

Still love Horizon Zero Dawn and Still playing it as well. I love that game and Breath of the Wild as well.

@iandizion713: Well there are about 5 or 6 million people tops in the UK who own a PS4. Not every one of them is going to buy Horizon, either because it's not their sort of game or because they just haven't got round to it yet (I myself have not bought it due to my backlog, but will get it eventually). Don't forget that there has been a slew of other great PS4 games for people to choose from recently and maybe a lot of people only have enough money at the end of the month to get one of those games. Zelda has stayed in the charts because it's one of very few games available for the Switch right now and because people are probably buying it with the console. If the console is selling well (and reports seem to suggest it is) then the game is selling well.

@domiddian: But the game was ranking pretty good last week, now it just fell off. How many in UK have a Nintendo Switch?

@iandizion713: Who knows, but from my experience, exclusive games behave pretty erratically in the charts anyway...

@iandizion713: It's not selling much here, because of a lack of advertisements, and I mean, GCSEs are starting over here as well, so I guess people are not buying games? I mean, that's the case with me, wanna play horizon, but will buy it after exams are over.
