Following the game's official announcement last week, Bandai Namco today released a new trailer for the vampire RPG Code Vein. This newest trailer shows off the game's world and its art style. We also see combat and a brief look at how the companion mechanic will work.

Players can select a companion from the game world of Vein. There is an element of strategy to this, as choosing a companion who works well with your style of play will help you advance through the game.

In Code Vein, you play as a Revenant in a future world "full of vicious enemies and monstrous bosses." You can make use of Blood Veils, which extract the blood from enemies to boost the player's abilities.

"Players can change their form to increase their strength, weaken enemies, and utilize new weapon abilities with overpowered attacks," Bandai Namco said. "Utilizing the vast array of weaponry along with each character’s Gift, players can adapt and strategize to a variety of battle conditions that suit their play styles."

The game is being developed by Bandai Namco Studios, which also contributed to the God Eater series, and is scheduled to launch in 2018 for consoles.

For more on Code Vein, you can see a lot of images and get more details on the story here in our previous coverage.

@casshan01: because it's the point of the game to stimulate some fighting realism, you incompetence.
if you don't want a harsh game like DS3, you can just go play fucking Hello Kitty game or something else rather than bitching about it.

@chiefwiggum16: the game IS NOT for everyone, you dense motherfucker. It's purposely hard for the sole reason that only people who invest time and effort are the ones who can perform better at it.

@chiefwiggum16: Come now. You don't have to get angry playing Souls games. Been playing since Demon's Souls. Stopped halfway through because I was too naive about what the game was and couldn't complete it. Was I ever angry? No. I just knew I needed to get better. Went back to it 6 months later and beat the game.

I've loved every second I've had in those games and not once have I ever been angry or thought the game was difficult "for no effing reason." You can dislike a game all you want, but OP sounds like he doesn't know what the game is, like me in the beginning, but also hasn't taken the time to learn it. So he gets frustrated and angry because he dies because he's no good. The difficulty is not unfair, so to suggest it's difficult for no reason is hyperbole.

Like I said, we all have our own opinions on certain games. And that's fine. But don't get bitter about it when the game is too hard for you. Be honest about it and improve.

@craigtl: Everyone will have a different experience. I've never been stressed out while playing. I've been on the edge of my seat a time or two, fighting to get the last hit on a boss. But I've never felt my blood pressure rise or frustration creep in enough for me to have to take a break. Every mistake is my own fault, so it's not like I can really be frustrated at the game. Disappointed and annoyed at myself for losing a bunch of souls, sure, but never angry or frustrated enough for me to rage quit or need a breather.

@tnielsen2010: Its that adrenaline rush from boss fights that would get me. Not that I felt angry or like I was about to lose it... but at certain points I would just want to play something that didn't have me on edge.... But I always come back.. the only one I did not come back and finish was demon souls for ps3...... I should dust off my ps3 and pick that back up.

@craigtl: See, the adrenaline rush is what kept me going. But I really don't think the adrenaline rush is what OP was talking about when he eventually said "let's see how high I can get my blood pressure." That was about the stress and difficulty of the game, which, in my opinion, is way overblown in this case. It's hard, but fair, and if you don't take the time to learn the game then of course you'll get angry...like the OP.

@craigtl: and this is why i never played Dark Souls nore will I ever. And any time I hear a game is Dark Souls esque I immediately take it off my radar. There is a difference between hard games like Ninja Gaiden and hard games like Dark Souls. One provides cheap deaths and one just requires some planning and skill.

@chiefwiggum16: to be honest there are not really cheap deaths so much as traps that you can easily fall into and die instantly.... its a learning process. You cannot beat the sense of accomplishment though. But it certainly is not for everyone. sometimes while playing I wonder what makes me keep at it after dying like a thousand times. Even if you dont play it you should totally watch someone who knows how to play well..... its a beautiful game with many epic boss battles.

@chiefwiggum16: Not really, because anyone who plays the game knows that is always a possibility. The rule is always keep your shield up, if you dont have a sheild then always be ready to dodge. If you go around that blind corner without being on guard you deserved that death and next time you will not fall for the trap. That's how the game works like I said its just a learning process. Honestly I played through all 3 DS games start to finish and every death I had was due to miscalculation, or me letting my guard down.. tough but it doesn't feel cheap at all.. its just part of the game. There have been times when I was kicking ass and then get killed out of nowhere and I recorded it with joy because it made me laugh because you start to expect it.

@chiefwiggum16: Rule 16 in dark souls never ever run blindly around a corner, Though honestly, I can't imagine what blind corner you are refering to ?

Honestly most deaths in a dark souls game is wholey the players fault. I say most as the game is not with out it's... design flaws. The archers of anor londo, the bed of chaos to name a few, the games mechanics kinda fold in on them selves a bit. I found dark souls 2 and its gank bosses to be a bit of a pain and the mob style enemy lay out. Dark souls and Dark souls 3 though, tough but fair.

@chiefwiggum16: This game is all about timing and being patient. Your moves do not have to be flawless but the wrong move will almost always get you killed. I have gotten caught by an enemy who lunged out at me from a corner but it doesn't feel cheap..... With this game it would feel more like I should have saw that coming with my face in palm. I would say 99 percent of all my deaths come from the boss battles.

@chiefwiggum16: Nope. Gotta be careful going around corners. 99% of the time you can see an enemy before it sees you. That's where the patience comes in. Can't just go sprinting through the level.

Not like you would know, though, because you admitted before that you haven't played it.

@tnielsen2010: I've played similar one like Bloodborne and Lords of the Fallen, neither were my cup of tea. A lot of people like them though so I'm fine with having games like this in the industry. Not like Free to Play trash which is ruining our hobby.

@casshan01: If you are some one who easily rage quits a game Then I can see how a souls game would be to much for some to bare. The difficulty of Dark Souls is seriously over hyped. While I am not denying that the games are challenging. The reason most gamers have trouble with them is they require two skillz gamers are quickly losing. Patience and the ability to pay attention. Dark souls always has an easier way to over come every encounter in the game, most gamers don't have the attention span to see them though. Last night I beat the Catacombs the Smoldering Lake The demon Ruins and the Old Demon King boss three of the "hardest " areas. In a single run with out dying... "shrugs"

@theothersider: It takes persistence and dedication to get through the DS game. I think the people that dont play stay away because of the people who quit the game because they couldn't handle dying and having to go back to the bonfire and start over. SO they say the game is way too hard. If I started company tomorrow I would just hire people who complete the Dark Souls games because I know they will never quit and always adjust when shit gets tough and work through it.

@theothersider: This is essentially what I was getting at. Just about anyone who's been playing games for more than a year of their life probably already has the ability to beat these games and not get their behind handed to them throughout. Some people just don't have the attention span to learn how to play the game.

@tnielsen2010: I hear ya. If the game is not for some one I can respect that. But it is the ones that it is obviously not for them and can't get over the fact that a game was not made to cater to casual gamers * and I do not mean casual gamer as a negative* that try to berate those that enjoy the journey as much as the reward. That's were it grates on the nerves.

@craigtl: If I',m honest my first attempt at DS was not a good one. I got the original when it was games with gold on xbox 360. I got alllllll the way to... the asylum demon deleted the game from my HDD cursing from software and all their un born children. I am not sure what made me reinstall it quite sometime later. I made it back to the asylum demon armed with a few tips and tricks and beat him on my first attempt ( marking the end of me ever dying to a tutorial boss in soulsbourne again) 50 hours later I was linking the fire and hooked on DS. Souls is a challenging game and often times the only real reward you get is watching a Boss that kicked your ass multiple times topple over rather un ceremoniously and that feeling of " YES! I did it !!! funck you pontiff Sullivan !!!" few games I have ever played give a gamer that sense of accomplishment with out giving you anything.

@theothersider: Same here!!!! I was just like wtf why would they make a game that hard.... and I stopped playing for a while. For some strange reason I really wanted to play the game one day. I also went back after reading a few tips and the rest is history. There are very few games that I consider getting gold versions and seasons passes... but this game was a 100 dollar pre order for me.

@casshan01: I don't claim to be a guru of anything. What I do claim to be is patient and even-keeled enough not to let a video game eat away at me. You can dislike the series all you want, but claiming the game is hard for "no effing reason" is a little much and proves you haven't really spent any time with it.

I also prefer fun over "let's see how high I can get my blood pressure" as well, and the Souls series is damn fun.

Also, I've got a ton of other things to do in my life. I work a full time job that isn't as a sales associate in retail or a cook in the food service industry. I have a girlfriend and a dog that require a lot of time away from video games. I own a home that I have to keep up and yard work that needs to be done. Yet I still find myself able to understand the nuances of the Souls series in a way that allows me to say "man, this game is tough" without being a little crybaby about it.

@casshan01: All I'm saying here is that you must not understand what the game is to say it's difficult for no reason. Besides, wouldn't Silver Surfer be the epitome of being difficult "for no effing reason"? If you use that as an example, try not to let it downplay your initial argument.

@tnielsen2010: The silver surfer on NES is on multiple lists for being unfairly or generically hard. I am not the kinda gamer that needs to crank every game up to nightmare, death march or insanity difficulty level. Actually I play all games on normal.Namely because turning most game difficulty up causes a generic difficulty spike enemies hit hard you hit less harder and no/less healing items. Dark souls and blood borne the difficulty is designed into them and very smartly as well. Most hear dark souls and its "legendary difficulty" and dismiss them off hand with out trying them. THey cheat them selves out of one of the best games with some of the deepest lore I have ever seen in a game.

@theothersider: That's absolutely my point. If he's going to criticize the Souls games for being hard for no reason, then he can't use Silver Surfer as an example of a hard game to play instead. That game is the epitome of hard for no reason.

It doesn't look very impressive graphically. Otherwise the game seems to be strikingly similar to Soulsborne games in terms of gameplay.

Why do you insist on saying "Dark Souls publisher" every time you talk about this game. It's not Dark Souls related and From Software isn't working on this at all. Bandai is plenty recognizable on its own.

Definitely excited for this. But I hope they have less swords (like dark souls) and more hand based equipment such as larger claws, basically things that enhance their vampire abilities so that the combat is more vampire-like.

I know its early in development, but I also noticed the sword attacks didn't sound that strong when it hits the enemy, it just slices smoothly through them without any sound of impact.
