Welcome to GameSpot Entertainment

Our new Entertainment section will deliver more on the movies, TV shows, comics, and toys that video game fans love.

You may have noticed that we’ve been experimenting with some non-game types of content on the site in recent months in the form of entertainment coverage. We’re all fans of this stuff, and we know many of you are too. The feedback on our entertainment stories has been great, and the time has come for us to finally expand what we're doing and give it a sense of place within the wider GameSpot site.

Today, we're launching GameSpot Entertainment, a new section of the site designed to hold all of our content around movies, TV, comics, and collectibles. Our objective here is to build a range of stories and videos that covers areas outside of gaming that are of interest to us, and we hope, to you too. Star Wars, Marvel, DC, The Walking Dead--these are just some of the things you can expect to see more of in the new section of the site.

As some of you may know, we also have a site called Comic Vine that GameSpot owner CBS Interactive acquired along with Giant Bomb back in 2012. The team over at Comic Vine have done an amazing job expanding their core coverage of the comics world to also include TV, movies, toys, and collectibles. I am very excited to say that effective immediately, the Comic Vine team (led by Tony Guerrero) will be officially joining the GameSpot team. Tony and the Comic Vine crew will spearhead the creation of news, features, and videos for GameSpot Entertainment, alongside their continuing responsibilities to Comic Vine and the community.

As GameSpot approaches our 20th anniversary in 2016, we'll continue to be primarily focused on delivering the best video game coverage around. But now you'll also get some of the other stuff we know video game fans love.

As always, we’re keen to hear your feedback. Hit us up in the comments below and let us know what you’d like to see in this new section of the site.

Huh. Now there's a listing for Staff Writer that vaguely describes this kind of content on the job site...is that what that new writing team is about, or am I off base?

This feels a lot like the Xbox One presser at E3 2013...

Trying to do way too much, and all you're going to do is piss off gamers. Good luck with this.

Wait....didnt Gamespot just layoff a bunch of good people, not too long ago?

They have totally cut their live gaming videos which is what originally made me a fan.

Now they are expanding into entertainment like IGN.

Hey, if the numbers say that is the way of the future, and the past Gamespot line up of videos and features cant make the bottom line work anymore.....i understand. Who am i to want to keep Gamespot from succeeding.

Entertainment is just not an area that interests me and its sad to think that the gaming end of Gamespot has been severely neutered to make room and budget for priorities so far from what made this site great.....and more honestly, what i enjoyed.

I miss Shaun, Carolyn, Kevin, Seb, Johnny, Maxwell, Ryan, Justin, Cam, and even Tom McShea. I know some left voluntarily but, things obviously changed on purpose.

Gamespot is blessed to have a Danny, Chris, Alexa and Mary Kish still around to make us feel like the place still has heart, but now i will worry even more about them. Oh, and Lucy James is a rock star.

Yes, time marches forward...things change...i get it.....

Ill stick with the gaming crew.

PS Shaun McInnis still rules!

@Alecmrhand: I completely agree with you on the first couple of paragraphs, but some of the names you mentioned left by their own will to pursuit new projects. Tom, Carolyn, Justin, Ryan and Maxwell are the ones who actually got laid off (understandably so in the cases of Tom and Carolyn, most of the community didn't enjoy their work). Shaun wanted to go to Seattle, Johnny got a better offer in another place, Cam and Seb left to create their own production company and Kevin left to be part of a game company.

And pray tell, which movies, TV shows, toys, and comics am I as a gamer interested in? Gamers are diverse, we're interested in lots of different things, and personally I don't care for comics and geeky toys. I'm sure we all have different tastes as far as movies and TV shows go as well. All you're doing is perpetuating the typical stereotypes about gamers.

I remember when Gamespot actually had quality articles, but for some reason they decided that the market no longer wants intelligent pieces on video games, that all we want are superficial videos. What a shame.

I think having both sections go to the front page is fine if you guys want to just be a general entertainment news site however I think it would be really great to have the normal news section be specifically video game stuff since there is already a separate entertainment area. For me, the entertainment stuff is just noise. It's the reason I stopped going to IGN and why I came here. Thanks!

@LarkAnderson: Thanks for making this change, Lark. (I did notice one Star Wars lip-reading video on the news page, but I'm assuming it'll take a while to get everyone on the same page with this or something.) It looks like the game-related articles are officially in their own bubble now, which I think is great for those of us who come to GS for the latest video game news.

One other suggestion I'd like to make, is bringing back featured user content, or doing more to showcase user contributions to the website. I know that really might not be something you have any control over, but I thought I'd throw the suggestion out there. I think it's good whenever regular visitors can have their voice heard here, and people have a chance to discuss or debate things a little bit.

Or you could, ya know, make the website a place people actually want to go. Maybe don't run an ad before literally every video, or maybe make the website a little tighter and faster loading. Maybe if there were a proper comment system, where good posts could actually thrive, the community wouldn't be so toxic. Idk, spitballing here.

@RCT4ShouldExist: Would you like to be charged for the membership and the ability to view the content instead? If you don't understand that the advertising is what makes sites like this "free", then you haven't been paying any attention to the 21st century and don't understand it.

As for the toxicity of the community, they need to police it better, I agree. I don't think voting on posts makes any difference on that though. Plenty of asshats will upvote toxic posting all day long.

@esqueejy: no, the Advertising is out of hand ... to the Point were the real purpose of the site is to place adds regardless wich 'content' is neccassary to achieve that ... video adds that run autimaticly with sound can only be stoped by clicking at them, two pop ups that prevent me from clsonig the main site like some shitty scam site from the dark webs ... 20 years is good enough GameSpot, sleep well little prince

It was bound to happen, and at least now there's an official announcement towards branching the website's coverage out to other forms of entertainment. I don't really have a problem with this, as the website has faced an extensive transition that pretty much conditioned most of us that spend a lot of time in the forums and the comments section to these changes.

Well I kinda made a suggestion that Gamespot should have there own Entertainment secion when I commented on Bugs Reporting & Feedbacks forum and this is exactly I always wanted to see. A separation of gaming news and movies, t.v, ect. on there own page.

Thank you Gamespot for doing this and I do like it when Gamespot report movies and stuff like that, I like to be on the know.

I just created an account on this site since visiting for the last couple of months. I've been on IGN since 2010/2011 and loved it up until the last 2 years. That site has went downhill so fast. They never post news when it is relevant half the time. There are errors in almost every article. They post way too many rumors that are from untrustworthy sources. They can't take criticism at all. As a gamer that is primarily on the PS4, they have stopped posting deals on the PS store. Ever since Greg and Colin left IGN the playstation department is a joke. I also have a passion for movies and television shows and that is what kept me on the site because I like to have news for most of the things I love in one place for convenience. After visiting this site, the gaming side is far more superior than IGN. I like this move to add entertainment, but I do think there should be a way to filter to see the content you want to see. I look forward to using this site so I can leave IGN behind.

It doesn't come as a surprise to me. You guys shifted to movies and TV shows and stuff a while ago. I kind of like it, actually, because I don't read specific movie/TV show sites and so I can get my news for both video games AND other stuff I like (because you're right, I do like many super hero movies, sci-fi/fantasy movies and TV shows, etc.).

What I would like to see is perhaps a separation, so that if I want to see both Gamespot Games and Gamespot Entertainment in one feed I can, but also the option to filter by ONLY Gamespot Games and ONLY Gamespot Entertainment. Maybe make it an account setting. I feel that would appease both the haters of TV shows and movies (who only want games) and also those who would like to see both.

"At last we will reveal ourselves to our readers. At last we will have even more non-gaming articles"

Yeah, Gamespot has been doing non-gaming articles for a long while, so it's a very public secret, but I just watched The Force Awakens last day, so I'll comment with remade Star Wars quotes (even The Phantom Menace has some good quotes).

Honestly, I only go to IGN for their reviews of episodes and such, so I'm all for you guys doing other forms of entertainment. I'm sure that's an unpopular opinion, but there it is.

That being said, make sure to separate them entirely. If people want gaming news, that's all they should see. If people want TV/Movie news, that's all they should see. If they want both, well, they can do some extra clicking to go between tabs. Don't throw them all in one news feed, it's too cluttered.
