I know that Polish people like to think that Witcher books are based mainly on Slavic ground. I know it, because I'm Polish myself. ;) But this is simply not true. Foundation of Sapkowski's world is obviously fantasy canon - so we have elves, dwarves, halflings (hobbits), gnomes, men; basic weapon is a sword and magic is based on four elements. So this is classic. Fantasy canon is based on Tolkien's works and obviously on Nordic (Germanic) mythology. Next we have many motives known from ancient myths e.g. hero's journey, trials, fighting monsters etc. and ancient creatures like unicorns, sirens, dragons, silvans, manticores. Sapkowski retold many well-known fairy tales e.g. Snow Queen (Shard of Ice), Beauty and the Beast (Grain of Truth), Snow White (Lesser Evil) etc. Very important are also Arthurian legends (even tittle of the last book - Lady of the Lake - is straight reference to them). Wild Hunt is a myth of Germanic and Gallic people. Aen Sidh -> Irish (Gaelic) mythology. Elder speech was based on Welsh, Latin, French and Irish. Many names in the Witcher universe were taken from European languages e.g. Toussaint (French), Dijkstra (Dutch), Vivaldi (Italian), German (Oesterlen), Skellige (Irish), Torres (Spanish). Slavic mythology and Polish legends are important, but - as you see - they are not alone. Sapkowski took many ingredients, put in one pot and stirred them. The Witcher stories and novels are based on whole European heritage. This is why CDPR's games belong to Western RPG family, they are just much more original than BioWare's products.

Master Chief is also is biologically enhanced too. Both are bad ass tho.

Also the books are the proper source for a "realistic" Witcher. You are greatly overplaying his magical abilities.

Have fun trying through mjolnir armor which can survive a a drop from space. Plus as much as I love Geralt he he's no much against chief Chief, a sniper rifle and a distance of 1500m.
