Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Pre-Order Bonuses

Whether you plan on buying the physical or digital edition prior to its release, the developer has a lot of available extras.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is set to release next month on May 19, but will it be worth picking up the game early? We already know Wild Hunt could be over 200 hours long, and that it will include "dynamic beard growth," but the real deciding factor generally comes down to what you get out of the box and what you get if you pre-order.

Regardless of when you order the game, the standard edition includes quite a bit of content:

  • CD with the official soundtrack
  • Developer-created "The Witcher Universe: Compendium"
  • Physical map of the in-game world
  • Set of Witcher 3 stickers
  • Protective sleeve

And we've seen the $150 collector's edition before, but here's a quick look at the more expensive box.

And everyone who purchases the game, pre-order or not, will have access to free DLC. The team plans on releasing 16 DLC packs total, with a new bundle available each week after launch. The first is the Temerian Armor Set, which includes horse armor, and a Beard and Hairstyle Set for Geralt.

Pre-Order Bonuses

Preorder from GameStop for an "exclusive Witcher keychain." The tchotchke will either ship with your game if you order online or be available in store when the game is purchased.

Amazon pre-orders will net you "the Amazon exclusive Witcher comic created by Paul Tobin, with art by Max Bertolini and covers by Joe Querio." According to the Amazon listing, "This 48-page hardcover comic describes the events preceding the Killing Monsters trailer."

Best Buy pre-orders get access to the SteelBook case pictured above.

But if you decide to forego physical editions, digital orders come with their own set of pre-order incentives and perks.

No Caption Provided

The list of perks for the Steam version include:

  • 10% off
  • An additional 5% off if you own either The Witcher Enhanced Edition or The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition
  • Digital game soundtrack
  • Digital wallpapers
  • Digital world map
  • Digital artbook
  • Digital "artworks"

GOG.com is running a similar digital promotion, but with a few specific additions:

  • Everything included in the above Steam version including the 10% discount and additional 5% for previous franchise ownership
  • Total of 20% off if you own both The Witcher 1 and 2 and GOG
  • Digital download of Neverwinter Nights (available now)
  • Digital comics House of Glass and Reasons of State
  • Witcher PDF templates for papercraft toy figurines
  • Extended soundtrack with four exclusive tracks
  • Avatar pics
  • A video about the game’s creation and all trailers in 1080p

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches on May 19 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4. And for even more information about the game prior to its release, you can read GameSpot's previous Witcher coverage here.

I really like GOG's deal, on top of all the extra goodies you get for pre-ordering you also get an extra 5% for each Witcher game you already own and once you add that to the 10% that's automatically deducted for pre-ordering you have the potential to get 20% off in total.

Is it me or are the swords switched on the figurine? Isn't the steel sword in the left and the silver sword in the right?

at minute 3:05 you can see clear the swords.

GoG revealed these preorder bonuses long ago and while I was tempted by it, I don't have the PC to run it and with so many other games to play, let alone the Witcher mods (check out *my* The Witcher 1 mod, The Weird World of the Witcher) I think I'll be fine. I didn't think I could play The Witcher 2 and held off on it until I got a free weekend on Steam and my soul isn't burdened by having to wait for it.

<< LINK REMOVED >> I think the problem most people have with other pre-order bonuses is that they often provide in-game content. The Witcher pre-order stuff is all non game-related paraphernalia that a fan of The Witcher games would appreciate, but which doesn't adulterate the game for those who haven't already bought into the series.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Well, the GoG preorder bonuses are quite generous and most people on GoG already have The Witcher 1 and 2 (there have been loads of giveaways and 85% off sales for them both) so they get a very good deal. Preorder bonuses aren't bad in themselves, just like DLC isn't bad on its own, what matters is what you get for your money.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Heh.. that's as subjective as an evaluation can be. I did not find the original to have a "vastly superior" story at all; frankly I find TW2 to be a better and more polished game in every possible dimension.

That said, TW1 was a very good game and is definitely worth playing if you're the sort who isn't bothered by slightly dated graphics and gameplay. The introduction to the setting that it provides also helps with keeping track of the twisted political machinations going on in the TW2's story.

It's good to see the preorder bonuses are all supplementary to the game, no actual content is included. I also understand the statement they're trying to make on the industry with the 16 free DLC's; I don't think it's quite hit the mark as it seems a lot of people would rather they were included in the first place, but it's certainly nice to have a trickle of content for the first few weeks for those that buy it on release. They're also free so I can't understand why anyone would complain about it.

STOP

PREORDERING

EVER!

It's why we get half finished and more shitty games. Read the review, and if it's bad. DONT BUY! And don't trust GS. They sell good reviews.

Let them show you a good product before you buy. Would you preorder a new model of a car? Most wouldn't. Different price categories - same problem.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> CDPR is one of the only developers that ISN'T controlled by money. Their development philosophy has never changed, and they have the benefit of not being bought by a huge corporation [Activision] between released [Diablo 2, Diablo 3]. Horrible analogy to make. Cynicism for the sake of cynicism is the worst mistake you can make as a gamer. I'll always pre-order games from developers I trust if there's a precedent for quality. Kojima? Nintendo? CDPR? Same story. They aren't Ubisoft or EA.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Anyone with the slightest amount of knowledge on CDPR would know that there's no chance in hell that this game will be bad. When it comes to developers with a precedent for quality, pre-ordering is fine.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> I wasn't talking about this game, but preordering in general. What I wrote about preordering is correct. It gives us releases of less polished and more shitty games. Also - releases where servers dont work - connect problems etc. (Diablo 3 and many more) - Don't buy it until the community says it's working properly. This will tell the developers that you wont get our money until you have delivered a good product, AND delivered what you promised! When you preorder you tell the developers that you trust them and will pay for whatever they bring to marked. A few deserver this trust - most doesn't. I'm getting this game myself - absolutely!

Based on what? Your own conjecture?

Games ship with bugs for a variety of reasons. I doubt that the number of pre-orders is a significant influence.
