XBL goes Tron-tastic

Two helpings of the classic arcade games inspired by the film to be released "this summer."

The Master Control Program will be infiltrating Xbox 360s through Xbox Live this 'summer,' as two of Disney Interactive's titles make their way on to the network. The games will be released to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the original Tron film.

The first game, Tron, was originally let loose in arcades in 1982, and has players completing four increasingly difficult challenges to advance through the game.

Discs of Tron, which followed in 1983, takes place in a futuristic 3D arena, where players fight one-on-one battles against Sark, the defender of the evil Master Control Program.

The two games will be released in their original versions, along with alternate, enhanced, versions that feature new graphics and audio. The titles have both been rated by the ESRB as E for Everyone.

They should add the movie to the marketplace instead. Much better way to commemorate a movie. I still like that movie a lot.

I think most people of age remember Tron (arcade game). I found it disappointing back in the day, being a pretty boring translation of the movie (why did Tron have to shoot spiders with bolts from his fingers?) but Disks of Tron, on the other hand, was a faithful adaptation of the disk sport they showed in the movie itself. I'll give em both a try, if only for nostalgia...

I don't remember Discs from the arcade - but my brother and I sure played the Intellivison's version a lot! Too bad they didn't throw in that one too. :)

I used to love tron as a kid, but now when I show it to friends - they think its extremely boring. But, me, I do find it a boring movie - however, I still am one of the few people who think that "lightcycles" is the best darn game concept in the world. I hope the movie really makes light-cycles awesome, and I hope the game can too. Light-Cycles is one heck of a game.

"MusashiFilms This is good news. I loved Discs of Tron. I forget if the original Tron game had a lightcycle stage - I think it did - but what we need from Disney Interactive is Live multiplayer lightcycle games. Period." Yes the original arcade game had light cycles but it was essentially a line/snake stile game. As far as an online light cycle game there is one it's in tron 2.0 killer app so if they would bring it to the back/comp list then there ya go.

Both games were awesome, and had the best cabinets in arcade history. If these have multiplayer it will be prophetic that we, the "Users" will be playing it like the movie. How about an original XBLA game of "Space Paranoids".

Yeah! I requested this on the wish list forum a while ago. Now if the backwards compatible team could add Tron 2.0 Killer App, I'd be all set.

I'm with you chisox. I remember those arcade controlls (for both them games) being pretty wacky: I remember hypnotising myself with the knob. Too bad they never made a Space Paranoid game. That looked cool. I think this is probably the only movie to ever feature it's own tie in video game, in the actual film. Can you think of another instance.

I have fond memories of these games back in the 80s. I'll wait to see how the control scheme works out especially the tank level before I consider the download.
