Xbox 360 tops April console sales, Kinect library to triple in 2011

@DanteDelacoix I'm pretty sure anything to do with the 360 is selling more here than anywhere else, but I also think that North America is the biggest draw in the video game market. It used to be that you had to win Japan in order to succeed in gaming, but now it seems that the tides have turned, and North America is the key player. We even see Japanese developers/publishers trying to catch up, and see what they can do to try to gain the same appeal that most companies like Activision,EA,2K,etc., are gaining here in the states. Capcom is doing a good job at it, although Lost Planet 2 was a big let down.

GO XBOX!!!! For all the haters....the xbox outsold the other consoles 11 of the past 12 months??? I know alot of people eating their words right now...

Id like it broken down into regions because Id like to see how many units have sold where. It would be interesting to see how many have sold in, say Japan. For all I know, 90% of kinect sales could be in North America, which wouldnt surprise me, so I'd just like to see region specific figures to see how the sales have spread out

I guess we can expect more short annoying party games for the kinect then next year that do nothing special and take annoying pictures of you acting stupid to take you right out of the game vibe at the end of every level. Lets face it. the kinect is a great idea but the games are burying the product.

My comments are in no way born out of Defensive fanboy-ism or manufacturer loyalty, i simply just can't stand people posting completely stupid and pointless posts with the misguided assumptions that their 'Opinions' are actually Facts. I used 'Wiki' simply due to being the first site that appeared when performing a search for 'Current Kinect Titles' simply to indicate the current and upcoming Kinect titles. Finally, i do understand and can relate to your opinion on Kinect. @jodyben, Although i dont own a PS3 or Wii, i understand their appeal and respect the fact that people 'Choose' what best appeals to them, with this said i dont ever feel the need to belittle or slate a user based on the platform they own / prefer as that would be simply ignorant. Regarding Competition, i could'nt agree with you more and i think MS and Sony are very well matched, and kind of have a Symbiotic relationship, whereby although competing against each other, they actually rely on each other in order to develop new ideas and technologies therefore 'forcing' them to strive for a better idea / technology, otherwise they would simply become complacant and lazy.

@thenephariouson, It's called hyperbole, or exagerration for effect, not to be taken literally. The Kinect has very few games, so saying that it has two games is a comedic exagerration that drives home this point. Since you like wikipedia: << LINK REMOVED >> And I have a Kinect. Nothing bad about this. In the end it is a pretty damn good console.

because it makes the poster forget about the flaws of there favorite console. the SONY company has a horrendous history and policy that alone is enough for me to stay away from anything they make. PS3 AND XBOX 360 PRETTY MUCH DO THE SAME THING.

I don't see why people feel the need to post the reasons why they hate a particular console? If you don't like it don't buy it, or play it. Simple as that. Not a fan of Kinect, well don't purchase it.It adds a bit of variety to the 360, and while I don't play mine all the time, it does give me a different type of experience when I want to play it. I also play my PS3 and Wii once in a while, which leaves me nothing to diss, or speak negatively about on these topics, therefore missing out on what provokes these upset gamers to post such nonsense!lol

Kinect library to triple? What's two times three? Six? Six games. Now I'm excited.

I just stumbled on Dominicobaggio saying America doesn't matter when it comes to console sales. News flash, North America is the primary focus of console wars, going back to Nintendo vs SEGA, or Atari vs Intellivison, to PlayStation vs Dreamcast. You keep on looking at sales figures in Japan and India, while us big boys look at the big picture.

I just stumbled on this and just wanted to add to the conversation, this talk of the xbox selling most is just in america, not global where it counts so if you are interested its worth going out and looking at global figures. Secondly firmware updates are not forced on ps3. Infact you can put them on when you want, sometimes it wont let you play online till you do them but i always wait a few days anyway to make sure they are safe (or you will find they have been up a few days before you notice them so its not a worry) So a lot of misinformation and jealousy on both sides. N just my 2pence, both have crap motion control systems and the money should have been pumped into the next gen :P On the flip side, just imagine if both companies pooled talent and brought out a sony 360 for next gen. Blue ray, better capacity, option to pay for ms online or sony free. cross console play. wow. that would be cool in my eyes, then i could show you all the ps3 controller is teh best!!111!! (joke)

@raahsnavj Did you play it (Kinect) by yourself? Well, your entitled to your opinion, but I found Kinect Sports to be one of the funner titles. Then again I play it with my 12 year old sons. To each his own I guess.

@thebeachguy90 True indeed. A lot of people were saying the PS3 was doomed at first, with it's high price, steep learning curve to develop for, etc., but it put those doubters to rest, especially once the key games were released. The PS3 will be fine and it has gained a lot of momentum within the last 2 years. I'm glad all of them are selling well and couldn't agree with you more. The more game consoles will give us gamers more of a variety to choose from.

@Phatjam98 Take into consideration that Xbox 360 came out a year before PS3. One guy buys it, his friends buy it, their friends buy it. It's a never ending chain. Obviously the year head start gave it a boost. Considering it's year head start yet PS3 is currently about only 3 million behind . that was the last total sales update, it's made a pretty good catchup. But like I said before the PS3 is going to lose momentum for awhile because of the PSN outage. I know some people are trading in their consoles so what? You think the same didn't happen to Xbox during the RROD crisis? Xbox had it's difficult moments and it recovered , so why can't PS3?. And there's still at least 5 more years left in this generation. You act like Playstation is a dying breed. It's not. It just has great competition, Xbox has done a great job in winning over the American audience. I would hate it if Sony were a monopoly. Competition is good for all companies like I said before.

@thebeachguy90 Actually this competition is good for Sony. They got big heads over the past decade and they are learning some hard lessons recently. If you want to know a great reason why the PS3 does better in some areas that the Xbox and vice verce, take a look at perrybeeinoz's post. He is from Australia and makes very valid points as to why this could be and I very much agree with him. I promise you that here in the US, kids do not go out and say to their parents, "Hey Mom, Dad, can we get the Xbox, it is made in america!" That is foolish to think that. Friends install base, game styles, and price points, those are the main selling points to kids plain and simple. And I'm sorry but the PS3 is pretty far back. World wide the numbers are that the 360 has sold a bit more than 3 million units than PS3. 3 million, with the sales numbers the PS3 is reporting of around 200k per month lately, means that if Xbox didn't sell another console, the PS3 would catch up in 15 months, 1 year and 3 months... so it would be even with Xbox next August or Sept. @perrybeeinoz YES!!!! A valid well thought out argument!!!!! I agree, I lived in England for 6 years as a kid and I do know that about other countries. Price differences, and popularity vary as well as game interest. The PS was always very popular over their and I have no doubt that it has alot to do with what your friends have. That is one aspect of the 360 that I didn't mention as a reason I choose the Xbox was my friends. XBL is the model for online gaming experience, and the achievements system just makes it that much more enjoyable to play with and compete with friends. Here in the states, at least in my circle, the Xbox is everywhere. Halo of course is what got it started with its online play and it just snowballed with many other online FPS's that we love here in the states. Great points, and great to hear your perspective. To anyone out there posting on this site, this is how you respond to a debatable question.

@GeaorgeBotts23 Um, what are you talking about? Uncharted 2 won GOTY when it was up against Left 4 Dead 2, Assassins Creed 2, and Batman. All come nowhere near Mass Effect, the Elder Scrolls, or LA Noire production writing and reach. Throw into that mix the potential for Rage, and the sheer fanbase for Gears of War 3 and the field for GOTY this year destroys 09 when Uncharted 2 won. So, its cool that you are an uncharted fan, it does look like a fun game, but it does not come close to the games that are coming out this year. Hell, I even forgot to mention Deus Ex. This year is the year of the games.

@GeaorgeBotts23 That is factually untrue. Please do some research as I did and you will learn that the failure rate for the launch Xbox 360's was 23% in its first 2 years. When the smaller cooler chipset came out that number dropped dramatically. Since '09 the failure rate has been around 2.8%, and in the last year it is down to under 2%. If you have problems doing research let me know and I'll post all kinds of links to independent research companies findings that show actual failure rates.

Right, portal 2 sold better than on steam... maybe he was only comparing console sales. I finally got a chance to play Kinect this week as it was at the vacation condo I stayed at. I wouldn't spend $50 on that junk. Dance Central is the only game actually somewhat fun to play, but Rythmn games in general are dieing off around my house. It lasted 4 hours or so though. Everything else was one and done - and Kinect Sports was garbage.

Besides I love the Live Marketplace's games a whole lot better. The exclusives there can't be beat. I probably play those games the most because I can jump in and out because of my schedule.

@GeaorgeBotts23 Ever since it came out Sony and their fanbabies keep saying every year is year of the PS3. Yes there is Uncharted 3 which I'm definitely getting but what else? And unlike Sony the 360 doesn't showcase games until E3 where they know it will be done and ready. How many exclusive PS3 games have been delayed and cancelled all together?

@GeaorgeBotts23 And the PS3 also has failures. Anything can break. My 360 RRoD'd once while my PS3 failed twice. With my 360 it only took ten days and I got a free year of Live and $50 in points. My PS3? It took a month the first time and the second time they held it hostage for 3 months because I wouldn't pay them $150 when they bricked it with an unavoidable firmware update.

@beardrewz You think 360 has better games,exclusives, controller etc than ur sorely mistaken. 2011 is all bout the Ps3 Exclusives. All 360 has is Gears 3 and thats it.

A good RTS on the Kinect will sell it for me. I hear they are developing Halo Wars 2 for it. If they get it right, it could be revolutionary. They may begin closing the gap between PC and console RTS.

The xbox 360 slim is agreat price, no need to change compared tot he ps3 (rip off). Kinect is a good price considering the tech and great games it brings, plus a free game with 2 player option out of the box. The 360 is a great gaming system with the best live service. For all the un educated gamers, the 360 slim does not break or over heat. are you all stuck in 2005? hello, its the new black box and its awesome. There are more arcade games on 360, more games in general. The xbox has Kinect and lets not forget the BEST controller not some 1999 dual shock. the textures and AA (graphics are better on the xbox! yes they are. Sony have failed and got bad reviews with all there exculisve titles. if you love the ps3 and are a fan boy...GET off this forum and stop making comments...lol i dont read ps3 stuff! and if i do i dont comment. So all you ps3 fanboys take your black water cooler box and 1999 Dual shock terrible controller for FPS and play ga,es! play PSN!....ohh you cant :-) thats right because FREE is good SOny...yes it is but just remember your credit card details wont be safe! its all about the games people...crysis 2...bettrer version is 360 (compare screens) you will see...shocking that this powerful multi processor cant even run games in 1080p.
