Xbox One passes PS4 on Amazon chart

Microsoft's next-gen console grabs the lead back after policy reversal announcement.

The Xbox One has overtaken the PlayStation 4 on Amazon's video game best-seller chart, one day after Microsoft announced a dramatic policy reversal.

The Xbox One was tracking ahead of the PS4 earlier this month, MCV points out, though it fell behind after Sony's E3 announcements of pricing ($400) and policies (plays used game, won't require Internet connection).

Notably, there is only one Xbox One SKU on the Amazon best-seller chart--the Day One Edition. Meanwhile, five separate PS4 bundles grace the preorder chart.

Microsoft yesterday announced new policies that put the Xbox One more on par with the PS4.

The new terms state players are free to trade in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc-based games in the same way that they can today on the Xbox 360. In addition, Microsoft has done away with 24-hour Internet "check-ins" and lifted the Xbox One region lock.

Though Microsoft has backtracked on some of its policies, the company has no plans to revisit the platform's $500 price point.

If it really is about the games, then with these policies changed, people should be about the system that actually showed three times the amount of exclusive game content.

@NetGod @John_Aguilera Accepting shitty change is just being stupid. Microsoft had a lot of unnecessary and restrictive policies + a forced Kinect. Now, they completely backpedaled on those policies, but they could have just as well changed the policies as to not be so shitty while maintaining their digital features. They also could've gotten rid of the mandatory Kinect.

Hardware on the PS4 is still better, doesn't require the use of the camera/motion stuff, and is $100 less. I appreciate what MS is doing being a previous Xbox and Xbox 360 owner, but I think it's not about answering to gamers. I think they don't want to lose to Sony. Spin it how ever you want...

@lunar1122 Exactly. The PS4 day one pre-order sold out by the next day. Of course the X1 day one edition is going to sell more at a given day than side bundles for the PS4.

What a stupid article. The X1 is not outselling the PS4 on Amazon. The X1's day one edition is currently selling more than the 5 individual PS4s. The PS4 launch edition is long since sold out.
