Xbox Series X Launch Games: All The Confirmed Titles And Release Dates

Even though Halo Infinite has been delayed to 2021, there are still plenty of games coming to Xbox Series X and S in 2020.

Before you commit to buying a next-gen console like the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, it's a good idea to know what games will be available to play at or around launch. In this article we've rounded up all the Xbox Series X launch games we know about so far, and we'll continue to add to the list as we learn more. You can also read our Xbox Series X review to help make your decision.

You can look forward to having plenty to play right out of the gate, including Gears Tactics, a previously PC-exclusive entry in the Gears of War series that is making its way to consoles for the first time. On Xbox Series X, it will feature 4K resolution and higher frame rates that should make the experience on par with PC. Some of the games will be releasing on the Xbox Series X after a couple of months of already being on Xbox One. Others are releasing on the console very shortly after their original release date. Among the latest games to be confirmed for day one is the indie FPS Bright Memory, Samurai Shodown, and RPG Time: The Legend of Wright, the latter two of which were announced as part of Xbox's TGS presentation. The Medium's release is now scheduled for December 10.

Now Playing: What Halo Infinite's Delay Means For Xbox Series X's Launch | Generation Next

You might be wondering why Halo Infinite is absent--that's because (if you haven't already heard) Halo Infinite has been delayed to 2021. Yes, it would have been the biggest game launching for the Xbox Series X and S by a considerable margin. However, Microsoft does have a few other next-gen games coming that will be ready by this month, and we recently learned that the console's future lineup will be a bit bigger than we expected thanks to Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda. That could take a bit to get going, but the future of console exclusives on Xbox Series X looks very, very bright at the moment. It's looking like it will be an RPG powerhouse, much like the original Xbox. And with its lineup of shooters only likely to get better, you can't really go wrong.

Xbox Series X Launch Games

Games Coming To Xbox Series X/S At Or Around Launch

In an Xbox Wire blog post, Microsoft promises that, even with Halo Infinite delayed to next year, there will be "thousands of games to play, spanning four generations, when Xbox Series X and S launch globally this November and over 100 optimized for Xbox Series X titles, built to take full advantage of our most powerful console, are planned for this year."

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches on November 13, just a few days after the system launches, and because the PS5 will be available by that point as well, you can start playing with cross-play from the very beginning. It is more expensive for the "cross-gen" bundle. This version will let you play on both systems and supports next-gen enhancements. The Xbox One version will be playable on Xbox Series X but won't contain the same enhancements.

Though the games listed above are all of the new games coming to Series X and S, the console will support backwards compatibility for original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games. Xbox Game Pass brings over several current and past-generation games to Series X and S as well, including titles like Dishonored 2, Hollow Knight, Rocket League, Gears 5, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. With an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, you gain access to xCloud as well, allowing you to play over a dozen Xbox games on your mobile and smart devices via the cloud. As of now, only Android mobile devices are supported. Should Microsoft allow for streaming to be run via a web app instead of only a dedicated mobile app, this could change. It's what Amazon's new Luna service will do to support iOS.

This lineup is only slightly better then Sony lineup and that aint saying much.

*Did they not plan for a major release???

Why wasn't Halo a release game? Xbox screwed that one up.

I tried & Failed too get the pre order the other day & im still pretty pissed because of the

"Cart" problems at Target & Bestbuy.. But i still chose Xbox as my 1st nextGen console.

Ironic that i have a PS5 pre-order. ha,such is life.

***I thought we we're gaetting GTA V ?

These companies knew this was coming for years..

~AssCreed isn't the same as it was 6 years ago.

~WatchDogs was super stale & i couldn't even finish the 2nd one.

~Gears 5 ok sure. NOT! I dunno who is making decisions with Gears V but it's not even

close to the Quality of Gears 3. And Gears 3 had many kinda bugg'n..

~Gears Tactics= maybe if it was all i had and Gamepass had nothing up yet etc etc.

~Control Needs alot more to be worth revisiting. Im surprised anyone wants to replay it so fast.

~Overcooked is really not worth advertising as a coming soon hotness..

*I owuld return to GTA V,,,RainbowSixSiege IF the we're release games.

Not because i want to replay them or get back in but because what else is there.

**To end this negnancy drama on a positive note~ I am super stoked on this new Xbox.

And this was before Bethesda...

Control Ultimate edition can be bought now in the Xbox store and the banner even says optimized for Series X/S. I can’t wait to get my Series X and the best deal in gaming is Game Pass Ultimate, yes Sony has PS Now but Microsoft’s 1st party games get added to the service on day one. The subscription at $15 a month is being reasonable considering you don’t have to purchase $60 games anymore unless you want to own them and in that case you get a discount off bat as well.

It’s a better lineup than what’s on ps5 IMO.

The Medium, The Ascent, Scorn, Everwild, Bright Memory Infinite, Call of The Sea all look very promising plus I haven’t played Gears 5 on Insane yet so will def revisit that as I have completed all previous Gears games on Insane.

And then of course there’s XseX’s superior back compat and whatever Bethesda games come to the console around launch.

XseX is just looking better.

I can wait until next year.

The only games on those lists that appeal to me are Everwild and Call Of The Sea. The big hitters for me will be the new Fable, Avowed, Starfield, and a bunch of third-party titles like STALKER 2, D&D Alliance, Magic Legends, VTM: Bloodlines 2 and Atomic Heart. All of those are a ways off.

@Gallowhand: CaLL OT Sea looks lame imo.

I just watche dtrailer for 1st time

(thanks 2you Brotha)<No Sarcasm!

I am hyped oin Everwild..

Starfield? Dude really??

Bethesda announced the game like 5 years ago and still havent shown 1 screenshot or said 1 single thing about it..

IMO Bethesda started ElderScrolls new game 4 years too late..

All development went into Skyrim on everything.. None of us really thought they wouldn't be already working on ElderScrolls.

~One one hand = take alllll the time in the owrld for perfection.

Then again Fallout 76 was so awful that it terrifies me...

Too bad FarCry6 wasn't a release title.. The last one was a blast to mess around in & the music was insanely good.. Yeah it was corny cult gospel music but catchy stuck in ur head gospel.

Kind alike Fallout NewVegas music wa sin our head..

"Johnny Guitar" <<i bet you know the song :D

Thanks for ur post,,it cheered me up some.

The Ascent caught my eye back when it was announced, so I may get it. Idk if that'll necessarily be this year or next, idk when I will even get my Series yet. But it seemed like a decent futuristic CRPG. It's my sorta game, maybe a good early gen title.

Everwild might turn out to be interesting. I know I haven't really gotten into Sea of Thieves like a lot of ppl did, but Rare is trying some different things. Their Battletoads reboot has actually been kind of fun too.

Xbox is for poor pc gamers who cant afford a decent pc system. Real console gamers play playstation. This is not even a debate. True hard facts.

@Cetra79:

Only I don’t have or want a pc and playstation is an inferior console. I class my self as a true gamer going back to pong on Atari and intellevision.

Been on Xbox since day one been on XBL for 17 years have had all playstation consoles since ps2 and imo Xbox has always been the best all round gaming package/ecosystem.

And now that games like Doom, Oblivion and Fallout are likely to be exclusive to Xbox going forward or at least timed exclusive that ecosystem is only getting even better.

XseX 10.2TF destroys ps5 9.2TF

The end.

@gamerbum: Im with you..

~Im probably ur age..

**No release era was more fun then PS2/OG xbox..

And no quality was bette rthen the Xbox360 imo..

If i had to pick one console and one only (at that time)

it would be the 360 for sure.. The quality was just there.

I think the devs really knew how to work it..

Somethiing they struggled with this current gen or atleats didn't excel like they did then...

**I played Madden during the PS2 era and i remember getting it the day after Launch and playing Maddne on my Large(42" LOL) Sony Trinitron.

Everyone was stoked. Hockey was awesome on PS2 also..

Sadly, none of those games were quality after 2009'ish..

**I recently bought a PS2 and uber Psyclone/Monster component Cable and had fun buying about 50 games from Retro used games store.

This was right before they ruined the world.

OG Xbox is next on my list..it's the only console i dont have atm..

Funny thing is i still have about 15 og Xbox games..All the StarWars and Halo and misc whatevs....

Sorry to drop all this on ya dude..

@Cetra79: True hard facts change from generation to generation. Xbox 360 was better than PS3 for console gamers. PS4 was better than Xbox One for console gamers. Now, we may see the shift back to Xbox being the console gamers better choice.

Flight Simulator should be on this list.. even if it's not a launch title, it will release sometime after. There are more inclusive lists elsewhere.. this one is misleading.

Of course with the Pandemic, we really don't know what exactly will release on-time game-wise. No one does totally. I know Gears 5 is getting the Series X treatment, as well as other titles, like Forza Horizon 4. I probably won't be playing much Gears but I'll try it out. I'm really looking forward to Flight Simulator. It's an amazing title, and Horizon 4 is so huge.. I'll still be playing that for some time.

I really wish Sony would show us more. I'm not getting the Series S. I'm getting the Series X.. but the news of the Series S really does get me excited. I want to be excited for the PS5 as well.. but Sony's being wayyy too quiet. How about a look at the back? Show us the new UI? Something!

Either way.. for both consoles.. this next gen is going to be amazing. All the games from everyone on both camps will eventually be here. The Pandemic has slowed down everything. I'm pretty sure we all still have game overload.. There's time. I'd rather the games be great then be rushed.. then patch.. patch.. patch.. after.

Sony released tons of amazing games this year... Microsoft delays this year's one good game Gears Tactics to November to make their lineup look better.

This is why I'll always go PlayStation

@subsided94: Those are all PS4 games so it don't count plus one of them is a remaster. Sony ain't what it used to be when it comes to exclusives for the PS5 gen, but we will see for sure in year or two.

Not everybody has a PC let alone a gaming PC or even wants one with the hassle/cost and all, so they need something to play games on, durr wake up people.

Sony's game lineup is definitely nothing to brag about either.

@cage_92: Windows 10 is a very stable operating system for gaming. Direct X 12 ultimate which is also on series S and X will help a great deal in this regard as well.

It will be an interesting couple of years. To be honest though i don't care all that much as i generally just play Gamepass games nowadays and Train Simulator 2 which is not bad at all on Xbox one X. I do have that on PC as well where it is obviously better but the Series X CPU will make further versions more in line with PC anyway.

I think we will finally see some decent sims coming to console this generation.

i hope they add to the visuals & esp the framerate of Master Chief Collection.

i just have no hype whatsoever for Any Halo under 343 studios or current microsoft leadership..

Every exclusive is just TOO CONVIENENTLY LACKING.. No way it's coincidence.

Even from developers like Obsidian..

@kutraz: personally waiting for the tech reviews with the multiplatform games. Whichever one plays them better (and tosses on updates to last gen games) will be the first I drop the money on.

I plan on owning both either way

@cejay0813: I’m with you brother.

I’ll slowly chip away at the current gen games until I see an eye popping reason to try the upgraded version.

Considering I have several to play, I’ll be good to make choices and convictions after the evidence and not speculation is out.

God speed to all the investors who buy at launch. Do us proud and get the word out, haha.
