Xbox Series X Launch Games: All The Confirmed Titles And Release Dates

Even though Halo Infinite has been delayed to 2021, there are still plenty of games coming to Xbox Series X and S in 2020.

Before you commit to buying a next-gen console like the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S, it's a good idea to know what games will be available to play at or around launch. In this article we've rounded up all the Xbox Series X launch games we know about so far, and we'll continue to add to the list as we learn more. You can also read our Xbox Series X review to help make your decision.

You can look forward to having plenty to play right out of the gate, including Gears Tactics, a previously PC-exclusive entry in the Gears of War series that is making its way to consoles for the first time. On Xbox Series X, it will feature 4K resolution and higher frame rates that should make the experience on par with PC. Some of the games will be releasing on the Xbox Series X after a couple of months of already being on Xbox One. Others are releasing on the console very shortly after their original release date. Among the latest games to be confirmed for day one is the indie FPS Bright Memory, Samurai Shodown, and RPG Time: The Legend of Wright, the latter two of which were announced as part of Xbox's TGS presentation. The Medium's release is now scheduled for December 10.

Now Playing: What Halo Infinite's Delay Means For Xbox Series X's Launch | Generation Next

You might be wondering why Halo Infinite is absent--that's because (if you haven't already heard) Halo Infinite has been delayed to 2021. Yes, it would have been the biggest game launching for the Xbox Series X and S by a considerable margin. However, Microsoft does have a few other next-gen games coming that will be ready by this month, and we recently learned that the console's future lineup will be a bit bigger than we expected thanks to Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda. That could take a bit to get going, but the future of console exclusives on Xbox Series X looks very, very bright at the moment. It's looking like it will be an RPG powerhouse, much like the original Xbox. And with its lineup of shooters only likely to get better, you can't really go wrong.

Xbox Series X Launch Games

Games Coming To Xbox Series X/S At Or Around Launch

In an Xbox Wire blog post, Microsoft promises that, even with Halo Infinite delayed to next year, there will be "thousands of games to play, spanning four generations, when Xbox Series X and S launch globally this November and over 100 optimized for Xbox Series X titles, built to take full advantage of our most powerful console, are planned for this year."

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War launches on November 13, just a few days after the system launches, and because the PS5 will be available by that point as well, you can start playing with cross-play from the very beginning. It is more expensive for the "cross-gen" bundle. This version will let you play on both systems and supports next-gen enhancements. The Xbox One version will be playable on Xbox Series X but won't contain the same enhancements.

Though the games listed above are all of the new games coming to Series X and S, the console will support backwards compatibility for original Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games. Xbox Game Pass brings over several current and past-generation games to Series X and S as well, including titles like Dishonored 2, Hollow Knight, Rocket League, Gears 5, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection. With an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, you gain access to xCloud as well, allowing you to play over a dozen Xbox games on your mobile and smart devices via the cloud. As of now, only Android mobile devices are supported. Should Microsoft allow for streaming to be run via a web app instead of only a dedicated mobile app, this could change. It's what Amazon's new Luna service will do to support iOS.

Reckon alot of people with Xbox One S will go for this day 1. I wasnt convinced 0.5 upgrades by either corporation was an incentive to move. But a full gen refresh would be.

@realitybites: i still rock the OG original XboxOne i got at release..

It's the CallOfDuty Advanced Watfare edition. it's pretty ugly.

i don't remember why i piocked that version at the time..

But yeah my PS4 has looked better on 4k tv for while now.

im too unhappy with Xbox to justify getting the S the or the OneX now.

I really want/wish Xbox would be my goto. but thats just not the case in the last couple years..

hopefully net gen brings something refreshing to the table(unlikely)

@sippioD: the original? no wonder the Xbox isn't your go-to. If you'd have upgraded to the One X.. and had a 4K TV you would have been amazed. Sony has great games.. I can't get enough of Spider-man and Bloodborne, but games looked wayy better on the One X. It really lived up to the hype.

I'm just talking about the console itself.. the minute the One X came out I traded in my white One S that I had for it.. I never regretted it. The graphics of the original One and the One X are night and day..

As for games.. if you like Sony's games better then the PS5 will be for you. Personally I love Halo and both Forza Motorsport and Horizon 4. In my opinion the Forzas are the best racers out there. Because mostly of those 3 titles.. I'll always have an Xbox. There's reason enough these days if you like those games. There's going to be many new exclusives coming out.. I also never cared about Perfect Dark and I'm really hoping that's not what the Initiative is working on. Fable on the other hand.. has me very excited. With 15 studios.. the future is bright.. maybe pick up a Series S then have both?

I've always bought each console pretty much on launch day. But given the lack of exclusives or at least exclusives that I'd be interested in as well as the Play Anywhere feature, I have no incentive to buy either console any time soon. Maybe the holiday season after next. By then there will be some good games to play and the meh games will be much cheaper. Might even wait a bit longer until they come out with the PS5 Not Ugly and White Edition. The Xbox Series X may be ugly but its discrete ugly, not LOOK AT ME humongous, glowing lights ugly.

@bdrtfm: New Xbox looks way better then the current PS5.

PS5 looks like futuristic trash, Sony is effing crazy in the head for making this thing as it looks. Plus both console and the controller glow blue now how effing lame.

WOW....
This list SUCKS.

12 minutes seems interesting, but not as more than a curiosity.
You can already tell The Medium is going to be underwhelming.
CrossfireX... a god damn multiplayer military shooter (worst genre EVER) is somehow the most appealing on this list - but even that is a bizarre fluke because the single and only reason that it seems compelling is that Remedy is creating an actual game to tack onto the MP garbage, and I'm pretty sure remedy could throw cow shit at a canvas and it would be a masterpiece.

Is it really this bad that you have to put "The Ascent" into the list twice?

"The Artful Escape" still in development? Damn!..

Long time Xbox fan. Xbox > PlayStation I always said. Now... that said, there is zero reason to get a seriesX at launch. Nothing I won’t be able to either play on ps5 or on x1. The entire games must work on both is going to cost them..... ALOT.

@KingWormer: You buy a PlayStation 100% for it's exclusives, and only 'cause ya have to. You buy the Xbox so you can play everything at better quality and with a controller that was designed by human beings.

I don't know why anyone pretends it's any different.

@skyhighgam3r: You prefer Sony Controllers ? your out of luck with the PS5 then, as if you didn't realise Sony have copied the Xbox controller.

@skyhighgam3r: eh I have always prefered Sony controllers. Opinions are a thing.

And games matter more to me. I've been comfortable buying a new system every generation so why would that change now? I certainly have never felt forced.

The Xbox One is the first console I've skipped in a generation since I started buying my own consoles back with the N64. I just found nothing compelling enough to play.

@KingWormer: what we got here is a sony pony. MS doesn't force to buy a new system right away but sony does. XBO will only get the games for a couple years anyway. You'll have to upgrade at some point.

so its bad to have reasons day one to get a next gen system?yeah sony is holding me at gun point to buy a ps5. having next gen exclusives is a good reason to upgrade.

@KingWormer: I don't believe a lot of those games are going to be on both systems. The Medium, one of the bigger games, is Series X only for example.

@thelostscribe: There is no specific confirmation that The Medium is exclusive to Xbox Series X. Only that it is exclusive for the time being. Hence, timed exclusive. It will most certainly come to PS5 in the future.

@satchmosax: Does it say timed as well? At any rate and how many years for that to happen. Usually like two years plus. That's fine with me, I'll be done with it long before that and moved on to the next game.

As a long time Xbox fan and after having to deal with a bunch of rushed games this cycle, yeah I'm looking at you gears 5 and halo mcc and how bad it was at launch compared to what it is today, i'm personally glad to hear for a change a delay is happening which most likely means they will hopefully avoid some issues they gave us on XB1 and give us more quality.

I'm sure I will (and many gamers, for that matter) be busy enough with Valhalla. It's sad that Halo won't be available, but that gives us time to enjoy some of the other holiday releases. :)

@Tekarukite: Yep, Scorn and Medium for me. Also, Cyberpunk..if Everwild is indeed out this year, I'll also be busy with that one. The main thing is, I'll get to try most of them out first on Game Pass. I won't have to drop $60 plus, right off the bat on each game.
