You Can Earn Xbox Achievements On Switch With Minecraft's Upcoming Update
The Avengers ain't got nothin' on this crossover.
When Microsoft announced a big effort to unify all the versions of Minecraft and institute cross-play, it confirmed that this meant that players would sign into an Xbox Live account, even on Switch. The company has now revealed that this integration will go one step further: you'll actually be able to earn Xbox Live Achievements in the Switch version.
Microsoft told GameSpot in a statement that this will, indeed, be the case. Players will sign into an Xbox Live account and accrue Gamerscore, even in the Switch version. This will be implemented in the Bedrock Update, which has already been rolled out on Xbox One, PC, and mobile.
"We can confirm that Minecraft players on Nintendo Switch will be able to earn achievements and Gamerscore tied to Xbox Live when the Bedrock update is released," Microsoft explained.
Microsoft has said in the past that the update is slated for a 2018 release on Switch, but it hasn't provided any specifics yet. Microsoft's updates to Switch have previously resulted in other interesting crossovers, such as the Master Chief skin showing up in DLC available on the Switch version.
