Hi, having a bit of trouble with all my line breaks being thrown out. maybe i'm missing something major but i don't see any formatting problems. in my settings I see there is an option for wysiwyg editor, but I don't see any buttons or anything. then when i post, my entire post structure is lost and all my words get pushed into one paragraph with no line returns. it's frustrating because other posters are blaming me for having bad writing skills. I've checked that noscript is not blocking anything important. I've checked peerblocker. I';ve checked adblocker. nothing is being blocked. yet it doesn't work properly. even this post was written with lots of linebreaks, but just look how it will come out. >:(

You may have limited access because you must be a certain level to have access to post with .html content. Since you're an older registrant I went ahead and granted you some points. Go ahead and give it another try to see if that resolved the problem.

that was wierd. sorry to double post, but I need to comment on that. i see the two line breaks has worked correctly. but i went onto the next line with the final short sentence and that has not worked.

edit: and i used many linebreaks in this post and it never worked.
just testing to see if html makes any difference.

html seems to be working here. so I am posting in raw html format? is that normal? or has my account glitched somehow?

it seems to be hit or miss. i've had posts where there are no paragraph breaks despite me double spacing them, and posts where it turns out fine. i know i had this glitch occur yesterday when posting, at least once.

The "paragraph collapse" problem has been around a long time. Here's my boilerplate for it:
If you are not using the wysiwyg editor (you aren't eligible to use it yet, you have it disabled, or you are using a "quick" posting option), spaces between paragraphs cause the adjacent paragraphs to collapse together; don't put any spaces before the first character of a paragraph or after the last character of a paragraph. This usually snags users who have habits of trying to indent the beginning of a paragraph (which won't work) or putting spaces after every period at the end of a sentence (including the last one in a paragraph). To separate paragraphs, use only two consecutive "returns" to create a blank line. ^ Like that. The wysiwyg editor has an effect on how you indicate paragraph separation. As I recall, just one return key, instead of two.

Ok thanks very much! this will help a lot. I guess it happened a lot to me as i have grown a habit of always pressing space after a full stop. this is a bit awkward but at least I know the cause of it and I can combat it effectively!! though i always have trouble with grammar due to dyslexia... but I can work with it :)

I've had that problem on and off for years.

So before I submit anything longer than one or two lines I use the Preview button and double check my text.

Even if it looks good on the preview you have to check the message line and make sure the spaces and line breaks didn't disapear because the final submission will be in one block not as you noticed in the past.

go down to the message and add the page breaks and spacing back to where you want them and make another preview to verify it works correctly before the final submit. I also need a couple of previews to double check grammar and spelling.;)

**even with two previews I went back and made an edit after I noticed a mistake I missed!
