Reworded to clear up any confusion (Referring thread) When navigating through a union...when you have a thread that is more than one page long...when there are unread messages in a thread that should navigate to page 2+...if you click on the number along the right side of the list of threads that tells you how many unread messages there are, you are taken to page one of the thread. The url looks to display the query with an ampersand (&) similar to how it was on the main forums. The correct character in the url should, however, be a question mark (?) for the link to work properly. The same issue is present with the posting history links to unread messages. Clicking on the links to the most recent message will take users to the first page of the thread instead of the last post read.

Same simple fix as the the other part was tbh, just changing the ampersand to a question mark for both sets of links, just before the page= bit on union pages, and just before the msg_id= (which also decides which page to load, and in a better way imo as it avoids confusion between which page for people on different posts per page settings) bit in the posting history. Seems it just got overlooked when fixing it on the main boards, hopefully it shouldn't take too long to fix it for union pages/posting history as a result. In the meantime the work around is to use the link as usual, just changing the & to a ? in the URL so that it takes you to the right page/message.

I believe they use the same link, if so then yes.

I believe they use the same link, if so then yes.

The link format is slightly different (it uses the msg_id parameter instead of the page parameter to decide which page of the thread to load up), but the link is still entirely valid and accurate aside from the ampersand being in place of the question mark, so yes, that WILL work on post history too. As a result a greasemonkey or similar script could easily be made to fix it on the user end for all pages on the site too, though it's still best that it's fixed on the server end ofc.

The post glitch is back too. I'll post and if the topic is two or more pages long, I get sent back to page one.

I've been posting the whole day and I haven't encountered the glitch. I'm guessing this glitch isn't widespread and is affecting some users. Or its vice versa.

Which board(s) does this happen in? The link that's opened after you submit a post is identical to the format used in the posting history, so it may be the same minor error. I haven't noticed this one for a little while though personally. Edit: Looking at the link format after sending this post it's perfectly valid (also tested on a few other boards), and the ? is already there instead of an &, so it's not affecting this board at the least, and I'd assume that means that all the main boards are free from this glitch judging from my other checks of various main boards. In which case, it's as expected, only the main boards (and UCBs?) were fixed, the unions as mentioned in the 1st post still have this bug, as does the posting history. Edit2: If this is occurring on for you even on the main boards then try clearing your cache and see if that helps, otherwise it may just be isolated accounts being affected (which is odd considering the nature of this bug).

I just tried posting on the regular site and it was fine. The issue must be related to the beta.

It's weird, sometimes it works, then the next day it goes back to the first page. Will you guys let us know at some point if this is unable to be fixed? It's been going on for a month now, and I have a feeling if it's not been able to be remedied by now it's not going to be at all.

Chances are the beta hasn't received the fix because it is just a beta rather than the normal site, the fix should be included whenever the beta replaces the main site though.

It definitely IS fixable, there's even work-around fixes just by a tiny modification of the URL, just be patient, it'll be fixed eventually.

Just FYI if this at all helps....whenever I use my iPhone it works fine. It uses Safari, I'm using IE, so maybe I'll be changing up at least 'till this is fixed.

It does? Because I've never gotten it to work right on my Android. That's whether I try to view topics I've posted in or not.

Yup, for some reason it works fine. Does Android use Safari as well?

It doesn't. Probably because it's not made by Apple, though it may have Safari in the Marketplace. I don't know. Also, I don't know which browser it does use.

Absolutely no change here; links in posting history and union boards are still broken, still ampersands that should be question marks. At least at this point I don't think anything has actually changed.

It's understandable that some links would still work, most notably those with ?tag="something" in them rather than just the straight &page= or &msg_id= will always work, there only needs to be and only should be 1 ? in the URL, additional parameters are added by the & symbol between each. As such the bug only applies to those without a tag parameter (or any other parameter that is adding in the ? appropriately) in the URL, i.e. when there's no ? at all, the anchor denoted after the # will still work regardless as well. As such only threads that are over a page long (by the users posts per page setting) and linked to on one of the affected pages suffer from this, the affected pages to my knowledge are only union boards and the posting history at this point. That said, basically all of the relevant links on these pages won't have extra parameters like the tag parameter, so it should be all of the specified links on these pages, provided the thread they're linking to is more than a page long (and that the link is to the 2nd page or later).

I was just coming here to post that. Only histories are borked. If you are having Union problem clear your cache and you may need to wait a bit becuase when I cleared my cache earlier it was not working but not it is.

Again ONLY post history unread links are not working. Gonna change titles.

Given the path this issue has taken I'm a bit wary, but I think I'm seeing working links from Contributions/Forum Posts - if that's what most users are referring to by "Post History". There are definitely question marks in unread links now, and they seem to be properly positioned. I guess the question now will be whether or not other users see them working too.

^That's odd, because while unions (and ofc the other forums) are now working for me, I still get the ampersands instead of question marks in the posting history (which is indeed the section you're referring to). Perhaps this is just a cache issue, though I doubt it as I've cleared my cache since the last time I viewed the posting history, or GS at all, for that matter.

I've noticed that on the main forum page there's actually quite a few links using &'s instead of ?'s, however none of them will affect users in general as the only parameters in them are the tag parameter (most of them are in the general site navigation, but a few such as the posting history link are also affected) - note that none of these are a problem, it's just to point out another inconsistency among the sites URL syntax that shouldn't be there. The only part that this 'bug' is affecting that is of any sort of priority is the posting history links such as this one: http://uk.gamespot.com/forums/topic/28430733/bug-cant-get-to-most-recent-posts-through-our-post-history&msg_id=329903413#329903413 (note that as I'm on 50 posts per page this link actually works fine for me - the posts on the 1st page anyway, it will affect users on 10 posts per page though, sending them to the 1st page instead of the correct one) that still have an & in them instead of a ?, sending users to the wrong page of the thread if the post is on the 2nd page or later of the thread.

I just realized that while the "Unread" column of links in Contributions/Forum Posts seem to be functional, the "Excerpt" column of links are not. If that's not new or caused confusion, my apologies. It sounds like what others might be seeing though, and makes me wonder if the current topic title might need further calibration. Anyway, there are two columns in post history that might try to take you into the body of a thread, and one column works, but at the moment the other column doesn't.

Yeah, you might want to reword the title. The new messages link is fine now, but the other column still cause problems.

[QUOTE="gmax"]I just realized that while the "Unread" column of links in Contributions/Forum Posts seem to be functional, the "Excerpt" column of links are not. If that's not new or caused confusion, my apologies. It sounds like what others might be seeing though, and makes me wonder if the current topic title might need further calibration. Anyway, there are two columns in post history that might try to take you into the body of a thread, and one column works, but at the moment the other column doesn't.

lol, I hadn't even noticed the 'unread' column :D Probably because it's blank for me on the entire 1st bunch of pages of my post history most the time :? But yeah, the unread links are fine, it's just the excerpt links that are still broken. Seen as most people will probably be using the unread links as opposed to the excerpt ones I guess this fixes the worst part of the bug, the excerpt links still need fixing at some point though, and it's just the same minor error as the others were suffering from anyway.

For someone who this convo went way over his head (me!) what am I doing wrong since trying to go from my post history still doesn't work?

OK so i had been testing the excerpt links and noticed they were still broken. Let me double check the unread links to see what's going on with those EDIT: Well the excerpt link is still broken, but that's no big deal. The last unread message link is working fine and union links are working fine. I'd say that's good enough. This can be closed now. EDIT 2: Sorry i jumped the gun. This problem still exists when going into your post history and trying to get to the latest unread post in a union.
