Some people are getting this problem where it adds this to their posts: Its the people who who change their font colors and stuff every time they post. I'm not sure about his problems but ever since last night people have been having these issues with the post editor (some people still use it, I don't use it).

Ah, the good ol' editor and me parted ways years ago. This is exactly why it shouldn't be used. Any users experiencing problems with it, I'd recommend turning it off and manually doing the coding yourself - believe me, it really isn't that hard to do. Check out How To GameSpot's BBCode guide, it covers all the coding you'll need.

I think it could also be from that update on the front page. Another thing about it is that the post editor is probably adding unwanted codes people can't see. I wish the forums were like vbulletin where if you press a button it would just insert the BBcode in so users can learn how to use codes by themselves and experiment. I'm not sure if thats possible at this point though.

Neither can I. This has been happening since last night. My guess is they are still tweaking it.

test? Not sure what you mean by new link system? If it's referring to the WYSIWYG hyperlink addition only then the obvious workaround is to add the html manually/disable the editor test As far as I can tell it all works fine o,o that's with the editor disabled though. With the editor enabled just editing the span tags out using the html source button should make it work fine too. Edit: Seems if I enable the editor, aside from the usual bugs, the add link system via the button doesn't seem to work at all, not to mention that there are a ton of options in the popup that I'm quite sure normal users aren't allowed access to atm, so I'm guessing the problem is isolated to that specific method? Wish there was a quick-edit function x_X

TC is referring to when we go to use the editor and click on the html link. Everything has changed and it is not working. It just removes the link when you click "insert".

linked text here Here is an example linked text here Another example

If you wish to use html coding and have the link open in a new window/tab then do this linked text here Third example

OT: The added /span code gave me a little surprise first time I quoted someone and this was added. Had removed some of it but not all when editing the quote(s).

Well some of us like the ease of using the editor to link html. Wonder if this has anything to do with the new home page rolled out.

I don't care either way. I just use it so I don't have the problems associated with not using it.

Anyway...

Testing...

Everytime I click insert, the link gets deleted. :?

Could be. I had a completely functional editor in IE9 by using Compatibility Mode. Now that mode is removed (or blocked) whenever I enter a GS URL. I can't understand why a webpage would block browser features which help make things work correctly.

Linking without editor: "linked text" linked text here Those are two options for linking.

Also when using coding tags, why do I have to use the http:// or https:// after href=" ? :?

Whatever you enter inside code tags has to pass through the filter successfully (as though the code tags were not there). So if you enter html or bbcode inside a code tag, the html or bbcode has to be valid, filter-wise. Thus user-entered hrefs have to start with http:// or https:// to make it through the filter, even if they appear as markup inside a code tag. Bottom line: the code tag is not an escape from the filter, which greatly limits its usefulness. That may not really answer your question, but hopefully it comes close.

^As a side note, it used to be possible to not add a protocol and just start the reference with a /, which would make the link use whatever domain the link was posted on (namely the gamespot one as it was on GS forums), some such links are still dotted about the site, but to edit the posts they have to be brought in line with the newer filter, which as mentioned requires a http or https protocol at the start of the address. That said, by simply ensuring that the < is taken as normal text instead of as the opening of a html tag, you can avoid that particular filter getting in the way: <a href="link">text</a>

It does answer.

@Rob - I can not get it to work within coding tags, though not really needed when you can avoid it like that.

That's because code tags would convert < to &lt; and > to &gt; if they're entered as normal text, the code tags are rather redundant when you can just post it as normal text anyway though.

I'm having the same issue. I normally write everything in HTML so it's not an issue, but I've been having the WYSIWYG editor insert "span" and "styIe" into the code depending on if I use the link or align buttons in the editor. The WYSIWYG editor effectively breaks itself. :? Happy gaming, Boz

Exactly. I have to open up the HTML editor all the time and fix every single instance of the style tag and replace it with the old code it used to use.

In this case it would be smarter not to use the editor at all...

All html tags have been disabled, most likely temporarily, and likely for reasons that it's probably best not to divulge here at that too. More on topic, they certainly have changed the editor system for this a little as all the extra tabs that shouldn't have been available to everyone have gone (so yes, they are/were working on it, at the very least), though I don't know whether or not they've fixed this specific bug yet.

Easiest way to make paragraphs until the html is re-enabled is just to turn off the editor and type as normal using enter for line breaks (which technically act as br tags but don't appear in the posts code) - until html is re-enabled none of the editor features will work anyway. Links, images etc can still be entered via BBCode, only the html tags are disabled. I can't imagine it'll be that long before the html tags get re-enabled anyway though.

So that means if you guys want to post links you're either going to have to deal with copying and pasting the link in your browser to see it or use this bbcode So please let users know about bbcodes until this gets fixed and that probably means you won't be using the editor buttons for awhile.

I'm actually forced to use HTML and BBCode, until GS updates their pages for newer browser versions. I can't use the editor at all, because the tool I used to display GS in an older browser version has been blocked or disabled.

Gah: But that was on Wednesday, and now it's Friday! And staff on are PST, which means it won't get fixed - if at all - until I'm practically in bed! For linking, images, bold and italic, use the bbcode. For linebreak just hit enter, just avoid hitting space before enter.

I can't seem to get line breaks to work. In their place I've been using empty "list" code to put in paragraphs. I have not been able to figure out a way to align text and images to the center, yet. Also, Horizontal Rule seems to be broken, as well.

Disable the editor, and whenever you want a line break just press enter, ensuring that there's no spaces immediately before or after you press enter/return (both do the same thing with editor disabled; so basically: text(enter/return)text rather than text (enter/return) text, etc - you can space it like paragraph tags do just by pressing enter/return twice rather than once. BBCode for GS is very limited as posts are typically designed to work with xhtml instead of BBCode, including all of the usual editor functions; something we'll just have to put up with for the time being unfortunately.
