Email / Notification Updates & Issues - Keep them here

In an effort to better assist the community with the numer of reports that have been generated regarding issues with receiving ( or not receiving) email notifications we've created this sticky thread to help address the problem.

To quickly assess the issue with your account we will need the following information:

If you SHOULD NOT be getting notification we will need the following:

• The subject title of the email you're receiving.
• The dates and times you are getting these emails.
• Have you entered in any GameSpot sweepstakes in the past 6 months? Answer yes or no.

If you SHOULD be getting notifications, and are not we will need the following:

• Game titles, forum topics, or users that you you should be getting notifications for.

Having the same problem, just created a thread and my Live account is getting swarmed with mails from Gamespot even though I disabled it.

SHOULD NOT:

Any time someone posts in my thread, or mentions me, or anything, I get an email informing me that that happened. At this point, the number of emails is over 500, so I couldn't stick to the format you laid out here even if I wanted to, simply because that'd be 500 emails lol.

I am getting the update e-mails, and should not be getting them. I've unsubscribed half a dozen times already.

Subject line has mostly been "Latest News for Games You Follow." I've also got one that was "Latest News for Watch Dogs." There may have been other game-specific ones, I don't remember as it's been going on for a few weeks now and I've been deleting the messages as soon as I get them.

I seem to get at least one e-mail a day, seems to happen evening/night.

Yes, I have entered into one of the Gamespot sweepstakes.

FWIW, I got another (unwanted) e-mail at 6:05am PDT this morning with the subject line "Look inside to discover the latest in video gaming news, reviews and more!" I'm also still getting the "Latest News for Games You Follow," e-mails in the evening; I got one tonight at 7:31pm PDT.

Is it possible that this bug has something to do with the changes that were made to the site on May 16th? Lark said that there were changes made to the notification settings. He said it was a bug fix, but maybe whatever the change was just messed things up more?

I'm not receiving notifications at all, and sometimes they come in really late. No offence Gamespot but I shouldn't have to sit down and go through all my posts to find this information out for you, just fix the fvcking problem already.

These emails are being sent to inform me of Watch Dogs updates. I made the mistake of trying the "follow" thing one time to see what it was about. I hate it!!! I've tried repeatedly to unfollow this game in my settings to eliminate these spam emails. Why doesn't this crap go away?!

Agreed - now going to stop appending to my list (see first post), and just say I'm receiving an email every day (time varies).

I'm also going to add a filter to my email account that will forward any offending email to all administrative accounts at Gamespot - perhaps that will provide greater incentive to fix the problem.

I've just added a filter so anything from newsletters@gamespot.com is auto-trashed, so I never see it. Far quicker than waiting for this to be fixed.

I've unsubscribed from your emails countless times, either from clicking on the link provided on the email or from unselecting the option(s) on my profile.

I Should NOT be getting emails:

• I was getting them on a daily basis. Now I'm getting them about once or twice a week.

Extra actions: I've unsubscribed several times using the unsubscribe link in the emails, nothing changed. I went to my profile and changed the email notifications settings so I wouldn't get any update emails. Now I don't get them on a daily basis like before, but I still receive them despite switching the setting off.

Glad I found this thread and the issue is being recognized. You seem to have a major problem with these emails on your hands.

I'm sure the emails are simply being "reported as spam" by most users, since it's frustrating and impossible to unsubscribe or reply.

I've unsubscribed using many of the links in the emails to no avail. I've checked my Gamespot email and subscription settings.

I keep receiving unsolicited GameSpot mail

I keep choosing "News, features, reviews or videos are published" e-mail disabled. But when I save it returns to daily. Same "Someone comments on my review or blog".

I tried to use the e-mails to unfollow but it didn't work.

I have "Receive email newsletters from GameSpot" set to No.

I didn't even followed the conversation.

I'm getting emails I don't want, make it stop. I go to settings to disable all emails, when I click to save, it goes back to enabling email notifications.

• It turns "News, features, reviews or videos are published" to default at DAILY.
• It turns "Someone comments on my review or blog" to default at IMMEDIATELY.

Even if I disable the settings and save, it goes right back to DAILY and IMMEDIATELY.

You think with people leaving the website in droves since the big change you'd try to fix these petty annoyances more quickly... yet, here we are.

I've tried unsubscribing to each one, and get a page that says I've unsubscribed, then next day, another one...

Just out of curiosity why, after almost a month of this issue occurring, has it not been fixed yet?

I am not getting any notificiations on anything. Replied to alot of topics, reviews etc and do not get a single notification/email. (yes, it is enabled)

This started in May and since then I have unsubscribed to emails and continue to receive them just about every day!
Please fix this asap!

just fyi Gamespot, sending emails after users unsubscribed is actually a major legal offense and the suing party would win at court, it is quite a big deal, I know since I work in the gaming business, would advise making this number one priority to fix

I think I understand how to format this :/

I am not receiving updates when people are "talking to me" even though I have all the settings enabled. The last update I received was June 30 even though the last time I was quoted was 1 hour and 11 minutes ago from time of posting this.

I notice lately I'm getting no GameSpot on-site notifications for stuff like when people respond to my posts with a direct @user reply or quote to my posts. I have my settings to allow for it but still not getting it.

• Yup, still not getting any on-site notifications to forums responses, haven't for days now, what's wrong with this? My settings allow for it yet I'm not getting anything. I have to manually scroll through threads just to see if people respond to my posts.
• Also, I've noticed the @user system, the one that pops down a window when you type the @ sign to search for users to make proper addresses to them, I can type a user name in exactly as spell and in many cases user names aren't coming up, that too needs fixing.
• I also notice in many forums I can't hit reply or quote for the OP, that too needs fixing.

@DigitalDame: Is there any sort of update coming from GameSpot on the issues @lamprey263 and I are experiencing? Not receiving the notification when we are quoted or when someone speaks @ us?

Stopped for a while, now they're back...

Seriously, are there any more updates on this? It's been two months since we've heard from mods. I'm still receiving the unwanted "daily updates" and "latest updates for the games you follow" spam messages. I get enough junk in my e-mail without this.

FYI temp fix in Gmail: Go to "Settings" --> "Filters" --> Add new filter --> Add from newsletters@gamespot.com to your filter, click "Continue" and then select "Delete It". From there, save the filter.

The benefit to this is it auto-deletes any emails you shouldn't be receiving from GameSpot. I was sick of receiving Daily Updates, despite unsubscribing and testing in multiple browsers, so I did this.

The downside (for GameSpot at least) is it hurts their ranking with Google spam filters, so there's a higher chance Google will start classifying GameSpot emails as spam in the future.

@Stankalot: Yep, I've started receiving daily updates again after a brief period where they had stopped.

I've only unsubscribed about 15 times...

I assume deleting my account entirely will not help.

Thought I'd see if any official complaints had been made to CBS Interactive about this and found this: http://www.bbb.org/greater-san-francisco/business-reviews/internet-access-provider/cbs-interactive-in-san-francisco-ca-27331/complaints

The very first complaint listed is from 14th July about this specific issue, and claims a response was given and accepted. No idea what the response was, but maybe more official complaints are needed to get this resolved. This has been going on for too long.
