I've recently been writing quite a few editorials in my attempt to get into the Soapbox, not saying my articles are something amazing, but theyre worth a read. I just dont get why its mainly the same people in and out of the SB. There needs to be a way for other people to get recognied more easily, yes and before you asnwer (admin) i know... "we dont check everyones profile every day looking for great editorials", thats not my point, there needs to be a change to the current SB system and a way for the whole community to get their editorials recognised.

The Soapbox is there to show the great editorials by different people. Its not meant to have average editorials shown because then it would be constantly changing. The reason you see the same people featured is because they keep writing great editorials, if a users work starts to slip, then they get taken off the soapbox. I think the system is alright at the moment. I know of a user who just got newly featured so its not like nobody new is getting in. The thing that I like is that everybody I see in the soapbox constantly creates great pieces.

I know, all im saying is tha there needs to be a way for people to get recognised mor easily, i think that there are a lot more great editorials than those that just get featured in the Soapbox.

I agree, i've seen alot of great editorials ( including a few of serbstas ) and yet they never get recognized. I think there needs to be a better way for all of these great editorials to get more attention. Maybe having more people on the job or something. I just know there are alot of great editorials and only 1/4 of them being read.

I also agree, today I saw an editorial (by a person who gets on soapbox alot) get featured only ONE MINUTE after it was published... what does that tell you? Coincidence? Im not sure...

I've been trying to get on SoapBox myself, my latest article took me forever to write... and then I see some Halo 3 rant featured and my topic not =[

That is because it is automatic that anybody who is featured continues to be featured automatically unless they start producing bad articles.

heh...ok well would you care to give my article a look if you have a minute?

Yeah It doesnt have flashy pictures all over or links throughout...but I spent much time writing it and thought It deserved to be featured.

Can you tell me whats wrong with my article then and why it couldnt make it on today's soapbox, but 2 other editorials did?

For one, its not directly about games. I don't know much about Soapbox, nobody does. There are a lot of people who think they should get on it but just don't, you definitely aren't the first and won't be the last. The final choice is made by an editor at GameSpot, it used to be Greg Kasavin but since he has left, I don't know who runs it. Other than that, nobody can give you much more advice, although writing about games is essential as this is a game website.

I agree that something should be done, perhaps appoint a few volunteers to look over people who aren't currently in the Soapbox's Editorials, sort of like a SoapBox Moderator or something.

alright so basicly we need to please one person with our writing to get on? seems kinda hard and unpredictable...

and im guessing Diversity isnt encouraged, because as you mentioned, my article wasnt about HALO3 or some other trend, but it was rather about an issue that can affect alot of gamers that they dont even know about. And yet, since one person decided it was irrelevant, it doesnt get spotlighted.

We really do need to change the system imho.... =/

Users that have the Soapbox emblem and mark a blog entry as editorial automatically have their entry placed at the top of the Soapbox.

For what it is worth, I send an email to every Soapbox emblem holder with a link to the following blog post.

There are over 56 users I am aware of that hold the Soapbox emblem, and I am aware of about a half-dozen that garnered the emblem in the past month. Two users have lost the emblem in the past two months. Some have posted two or more editorials in the past month, others haven't posted since May or earlier. It varies according to the individual user's preferences.

I am not a Gamespot employee or moderator, and neither endorse nor disparage the Soapbox system, though I do like the Soapbox itself.

Ok well it makes more sence now, I didnt realize the Emblem is only there as a status.

I think an improvement to the system would be to give out an emblem for a specific article that a person wrote, and that shouldnt mean that all Editorials from that person will not be auto-published until they become bad.

Imo we should get an emblem for a good article that was featured, and thats where It would stop.
