I personally really, really, REALLY like it. It's modern, it's up to date, and it's fresh. The design and coding team(s) for this website always do a superb job.

EDIT: Now if you guys could just come up with something that will automatically fix typos. lol

I personally really like it. IDK why some people don't like the new design. I think it's simple and fresh. In fact, I think it is a lot like the older version, just a better graphics package.

Why did you change it again? At least put in an option to have it the way it was. This new look is lame.

The New Layout, isn't bad, but something is annoying me, the fact that some feature were removed, and other were shortened, the layout was way to shortened, what i liked about the old layout, was that i could find pretty much the most important things to me, directly on the 1st page, News, Soapbox, etc etc...

On another not, pls decreese the size of the Facebook/Tweeter icons, they are to big and take the focus of the reader when reading the headlines.

And for gods sake, do something about the News Page, has its a complet mess, its chaotic at best, is it that hard to make an organized News page?

Peace

For once, I absolutely love the new design. My only complaint thus far is the additional load time. Edit: I'm also frequently getting load errors.

The new design is ok, but everything else is really lame. My two biggest complaints off the top of my head are 1) that dumb scroll box instead of just a simple click to get to my messages and updates and 2) the removal of "recent user reviews". Really? Why the hell did that need to be removed?

Not a fan of the new look.

But one thing I HATE about it is that news is completely hidden now. I love reading about the latest gaming news, but this got reduced to one line :/ Why?

I agree with you about the way news is presented. I generally quickly scan the headlines ( with the old format ) and then click on the ones that interest me. This new scroll bar makes that impossible.

The new layout is fine, but our old nemesis HTTP 500 error is back when trying to access forums and threads.

I like it. Can't believe I'm saying that. I would like to see an improvement to the white theme, though. When viewing the threads on a board, the orange text on a white background is too much.

I really like It, It's less busy than the other one and much easier to navigate. Obviously there's a bugs such as the page deciding not to load now and then, but nothing that can't be ironed out :)

Are people viewing this with CRT screens on a Windows 95 computer? The new design looks great and its just as functional as the old one once you get to know it. They did a very good job.

Is there a way to turn off the games I'm following drop down menu. Granted its not your fault that I'm too lazy to unfollow games but I don't like having a huge drop down box reminding me that I'm following games that have since been canceled.

Again, just like last time, we dont want extra clicks to go to our tracked game pages! Make it like it was, easy drop down box to instantly go to the tracked game that we want!

That's like 2 redesigns but the site is still glitchy?? Also this game market won't take any flack from the game makers themselves? Or Gamestop or Amazon? Kudos to GS for trying their own thing

For those complaining about how it's harder to navigate around the website, how??? You hover over your console or section of choice, a drop down menu shows with all the sub sections. Before, you had to click on a section (say, Xbox 360) then select a sub area (like Reviews). Same goes for your profile box in the upper right corner.

Call me GameSpots #1 fan if you want, but I see nothing wrong with the new design and I'm loving browsing around with it.

The only thing they did was switch sides on the menu bar and make a popout menu for your username. You'll get used to it.

I really like the new site, and I tried to leave a comment here: http://gamespot.uservoice.com/forums/106289-new-navigation-and-homepage-feedback- but it keeps telling me to sign in, even though I am signed in! And when I press the sign in button, it takes me to a screen that looks like the new home page, but there are no scroll bars or even a sign in button there...I hope this is the right place to say this...

I like it for the most part. And just like the last re-design, people will get used to it and eventually find that it is better than the old one. The only problem I have found, and for me it's a major one, is the news headlines box. It's too small and it's annoying to have to click through each headline to find something you're interested in. There is plenty of space on the right hand side. I think it would be best to move it back over to the side and make it bigger to allow for more headlines than the old one. It's just a lot easier to be able to see all of them at once.

As for as looks go, it's ok, nothing special though. I'll get used to it.

However in terms of user experience it's a step back. Now I have to hover over my username to see the there are new items in my inbox or updates. Yet there is plenty of space up there to show that. Second if I want to quickly look at the game page for a game I'm following and it's not in the alphabetical top twenty then I have to click to another page. Why do that? If it was causing load issues from users with large follow lists I could understand but surely there's some way you can cache it. Now it just feels like a tease. I mess the old drop-down. Perhaps you could at least give us the option to change the order they are listed, maybe by release date or most recently followed?

I LOVE it, truly I do. It's not often I can say that about a site change right off the back, but it's just so damn smexy! And having the theme on dark (which I've always done more so out of function & vision reasons, lol) really makes the changes 'pop', actually I'd venture to say the changes look better on the darker theme than the light (I did switch it real quick to see how it looked in 'default' & I have to admit it IS fugly....you guys should work on that a little more).

The only thing I'd say I don't really get down w/ is the placement of News vs. 'Most Popular' Games sections. Personally, you all need to swap News back to the upper-right corner and place 'Most Popular' back down lower (where it was) or as someone else suggested (can't remember if it was this thread or another) give registered users the option changing the layout to show what is important to them. Also, I'm in agreement w/ the removal/minimizing of all that Facebook stuff, I DO NOT want to be bombarded by that s***. I don't have an account there for a reason, y'know....

Other than those little grips, keep on w/ the improvements.

I really don't like the latest web design fad of "Simplification" When it takes 2,3,4 clicks and maybe a search to get to something that used ot show up right on the home page, you're making a negative impact on usability.

These designs are supposedly aimed at new users, so as not to "overwhelm" them. I call BS on that. Not everyone is a new user, longtime visitors are used to a certain way of doing things, and they need to be considered in redesign decisions. Even new users are negatively impacted if they miss out on or can't find content that's buried under multiple mouse clicks.

What you should have done is allow people to add and remove 'gadgets' for the features they want to see. Design gurus get their panties all in a bunch when you propose user controllable content because it messes with their perfectly designed (at least until the next overhaul) baby.

I do not really care for the design one way or the other, but I will say two things: 1. It is a little slow, but I suspect that will get better as time goes on. 2. I am not sure if it got moved elsewhere and I am missing it, but the "Help" link is no longer next to the "Logout" and "Settings" links. It was nice having quick and easy access to the knowledge database like that.

There are some aspects that I like (navigation is easier, it looks a lot better) but the removal of some features (user reviews on gamepages) are aspects I dislike.

Basically what we're trying to say is this site is becoming too generic. Just like all the other gaming-related sites. It should be something that is better than the rest, rather than devolving into what everything else looks like.

If I wanted to use IGN, I would go to IGN. I used to use both sites as they were completely different but now they are pretty much the same, its gonna be IGN i'm afraid.

It's terrible!!
The original design was near pefect. Everything was easy to find. What idiot came up with the stupid idea to change it?? I'm completely lost in this new (fancy looking) design.

If it ain't broken don't try and fix it!

So far my only complaint is the removal of the "Available Now" tab from the Most Popular section. Basically, the only reason for its removal was that the new place for the section didn't have enough room, so they just decided to cut off the "less needed" tab. The problem is, that tab wasn't less needed in my case -- I really used it, and now I can't, which is very frustrating. Looks over usability is a wrong approach. The only reason I'm visiting this website is the info I get here, so the last thing I care about is how it looks.
