Other items worth mentioning:

- Flood of COMMENT alerts via Fuse. Make sure you change your settings via FUSE or you'll get loads of alerts. Read the announcement above for details.

- How to Flag abuse. If you'd like to know how to report abuse or other details please read this topic.

- Staff, mods, and rangers do not have a tag yet. This will be implemented at a later time.

-No level requirement to post in the comments. This was actually was intended, a frequent request from other staff.

- No option to ignore a user: This request was in our original request once the commenting system was changed. We were unable tog et it implemented before the launch but it is a frequent request (aside from the negative ratings you all asked about) so we'll continue to request this option.

- No option to change your settings to allow profanity or not. This was another original request (like the ignore option) but we have not had any confirmation on whetheor or not it'll be implemented at a later time.

- No option to EDIT a comment. Users can click the DELETE button.

- No option to hide a spoiler tag. This was requested by Community staff early on. Please make sure you share if you want this added in the future.

- .html limitations. Some users have stated that they dont have access to post or embed videos, but I have not heard any plans to allow html or add an wysiwyg type of editor. Please do provide feedback about this as well.

Since this thread isn't locked, I'm going to assume that I can post feedback about the new commenting system.

For the most part I am pleased with the new commenting system. I really like that comments and replies are now nested. It will make it much easier to have a conversation with people. A couple of things (other than what was mentioned already) that I would like to see are the ability to pause the live feed and the ability to edit a post.

I'm not sure how I feel about the commets yet, but I have to say that recent changes to the site overall do not play well with Internet Explorer. Functionality randomly disappears, like comments and "See More" links at the bottom of pages.

Are you guys using GWT? Can I get a job there and help you fix it? I have 12 years of experience in web development and online communities. :D

At least you guys still let us use our Gamespot accounts to post. I hate how Joystiq uses the same system but you have to use facebook/twitter/etc. to login.

I agree, this sucks- as I was just telling a gs friend, I hate facebook, refuse to use it, and all the mini me's out there and if this becomes basically a 'facebook for games' I'll leave. It's pretty close to it right now.

All the comments in all my blogs are gone- it says there's 15 or however many, but they're gone. So, any info/conversations there- it's history. Commenting on the site threads is so minimalistic, no spell check, no preview, no refresh comments and the list goes on. What I want to know is, 'why copy facebook' -about the worst move a site could make. Can't even edit your own comments on the threads. It's like commenting for beginners, just the bare bones basics, doesn't make me think of a tech/up-with-the-times kind of site. You're rolling backwards gs.

Just my 2cents.

So, who's bright idea was it to "revamp" the comment system? Whoever it was, I would like to introduce them to a very old saying: "if it is not broke, do not fix it".

The old comment system was a lot better, it allowed emoticons, and, best of all, it allowed editing of comments. Sp, if imesed up in my tyoing i didn;lt have to DELETE it, then repost it, to fix it, I could edit it, correct and typos, and still have the same comment, in the same position in the comments.

The article about the comment update says they will return soon, but i dont know i get the feeling its gonna be one of those many things gamespot says they will do but just end up not doing in the hopes that we forget about it by then.

I don't know if this comment system will be permanent or not, there should be a poll in this thread that allows users to vote their opinion. This comment system kind of deteriorates the importance of a blog comment and the comments seem less noticeable imo when compared to the previous comment system. I liked the bigger avatars since it helped me recognize a user faster. Another thing is no html/bbcodes. I'm glad they did not update the unions with this comment system. At first I thought the comment system was cool but after awhile it seemed a little bit annoying and there is less freedoms. I think users don't like how gamespot is turning into a facebook site for gamers and improvements lately are just for fuse and rarely outside of that.

I like the improvements of the new comment system, and I think with time we'll be able to edit and use HTML/BBCode, and then it'll be complete.

The only thing I'd change is some privacy options, like seeing who has "liked" a post. I think that information should be confidential, and a number showing how many have liked it would do just fine. Just my two cents.

Just thought I'd swing by to say I'm not a fan of the new comment system. Really wish that thumbs down button was still there - great way of filtering comments and gauging community opinion. The old system worked just great and was one of the reasons I enjoyed posting here. Not sure why you guys felt the need to facebookify the place.

I don't like it. I can't edit my comments, it's slow (took 2 minutes to update), it can't handle transparency in avatars and it just fills it with green, it doesn't support animated gifs, it looks weird with the black theme (best theme btw), it shows your full name anyway, if you edit your name it's not edited retroactively, I can't disagree with someone without posting, and I can't like my own posts anymore. Just my opinion.

I'd like it adjusted to look nicer in the dark theme. Right now some things are super bright and annoying or too dark to easily see against the background.

No HTML/BBCode and no edit function??

And this is supposed to be 'revamped'???

WOW, I guess the 'dumbing down' disease is affecting other areas than video game developing.

I am not digging this new system at all personally. It is very laggy and slow. What happened to the dislike button?

It just feels like a jumbled mess to be quite honest.I figure since it's new, the bugs will be worked out.But thus far, I don't like it.

Another small complaint is my animated picture is no longer animated in the comments.Ciest la vie.Hope it all gets worked out.

Also, why when I check my blog posts they show a '0 Comments' notice when I actually have more than 5 comments added?

Not impressed so far... :P

I'm not too experienced in web design but the new system just isn't right.

Pros

  • Auto update's nice.
  • Seeing who liked is a good feature although you can't see more than 3 (or is it 4) people.

Cons

  • From the get go it just looks and feels off, nothing clicks in my brain quick enough. Everything seems too separated.
  • I miss the black background.
  • I miss the dislike button; it was nice to see how people felt about a certain comment, why restrict people from expressing disagreement?
  • The 'XX new comments' feature is pointless and a little irritating, especially on popular articles.

I prefer the old system, not sure why it needed updating so much really, the old one was near perfect.

I don't know about you but I noticed the whole thumbs up and down system has taken the biggest hit wit hthe new comment system. People won't give a thumbs up/Like anymore. I guess because your nick shows up when you like a comment so it basically calls people out.

I really like the new commenting system. The things I would say against it are 1. It's just as difficult to find your original message in the comments as it was before and 2. emoticons don't work because there's no HTML. I like emoticons so I'd like to see them back in comments again. :)

I HATE it! Do you have to 'follow' the conversation just to get notifications about replies? No edit button - come on. Social interactions (i.e facebook and twitter) are pretty pointless, most gamers aren't exactly that social and probably wouldn't want people on facebook and twitter seeing their nerdy rants. At least I wouldn't anyway. Replies are faster I'll give you that (though I'm not getting notifications). What really annoys me is there isn't any proper rating system. You can click like for a comment, but I really can't see what difference this makes. Can other people see that I liked it? Presumably not. Can the poster see that I liked their comment? I don't know. I also have no idea how many people liked a comment anymore. Trolls will also probably become more frequent as their comments can't become hidden anymore, now you actually have to rat them out, which not many people like doing. I used to like writing humourous comments, or engaging in long debates, and seeing how others reacted to that. Now I feel like such a debate is a waste of time, because I don't know if anyone is even paying attention to it. Also, the page numbering system didn't need to be changed. I wrote a reply to a comment and went to see if I got a reply back only to notice I can only view '50 more posts' when the post I had replied to was 8 hours ago. I used to remember the time I had written it, and such for that time through the pages to find it, I no longer have that functionality available in this new system.

Half the posts I make without the editor have problems if I use coding. Like one percent of the posts I make with the editor have problems. That's why I use the editor when coding is involved.

So if there was a thumbs down functionality that displayed your image next to it (like the way the "like" button functions) you'd be fine with that?

The old comment system was one of the best things about this site, dunno why you felt the need to change it.

I hate everything about the new one, please please change back it's not even fun to read and post comments anymore.

I dunno, I generally hate change but this one actually doesn't bother me. I guess probably because I never used the comments that much. :)

If you never commented that much, why are you in even posting in this thread?

So if there was a thumbs down functionality that displayed your image next to it (like the way the "like" button functions) you'd be fine with that? Synthia

Not speaking on behalf of rigzzsy, but you should change just it back to 2 thumbs, no user images next to it, just an overall +/- like it used to be. I still think the old system was far superior to this streamlined comment system.
