I have not seen or heard of an account getting deleted in many years, and changing names causes some problems so it's only done under very specific extenuating circumstances. What I would suggest in your case is to try simply changing the email address you have associated with this account. You can try doing that here, but if that does not work you may have to try it here. Once that change has taken effect, you should be able to reuse your email address on a new account. I have not tried that recently though, so if you have trouble freeing up your email address you may need some help from an admin or Customer Support, but you should definitely try it yourself first. Try to pick a new user name you will be happy with from now on. That can be a challenge. Good luck.
