I tried uploading a video to Gamespot and I followed the process I did everything right and all it said is "Video encode failed". Could somebody help me?
I have a feeling that user videos are currently broken in at least 3 or 4 different ways. Whether it's all connected or not I have no idea. The last public user video that's currently listed went up on the 12th. There are usually several every day. So I'm going to second the idea of waiting until user videos start working again. Once they are up and running again, you'll want to make sure you understand the difference between uploading and encoding. Uploading is just transferring a file. In this context, encoding is the process of GameSpot converting your upload to the format they use. Encoding can fail for lots of reasons, but generally it fails because there was something their process didn't like about the format of what you uploaded. There are a lot of different ways a video file can be formatted. The audio and video codecs used, resolution, frame rate, sample rate, bit rate, overall running time, and file size are all factors. The GameSpot encoding process will accept a lot of different kinds of input, but you still have to know what you are sending in case there is an encoding failure and you need to make adjustments. I don't know of any really current information or active discussions here on GameSpot about formatting your videos prior to uploading them, but that is the main battle you face. There is this, but it's 3 years old. You could also give GS User Videos a try. If you can find someone who is getting good results using the same software that you are, perhaps you can find out about the settings they are using, and adjust yours to match.
