Videos Unwatchable On Firefox

Hi all,

Any video on Gamespot is unwatchable. The audio plays normaly but the video is really choppy, its like its playing the video at a realy low frame rate.

For my web browser i use Firefox. Im currently running the latest version so its fully updated. I use a small number of plugins, i have disabled them all but this makes no diffrence to the video playback. I have also tried to watch the videos in both normal and high definition, this also makes no differnace.

So far the only way i can watch videos from this site is to use Internet Explorer, this is not an ideal work around.

I am running Windows 8.1 Pro With Media Centre 64Bit. Windows is fully up to date as is my version of Firefox.

Any suggestions as to what is wrong with the video playback, and how to fix it?

@joedin2056: Does it make any difference if you change the quality?

@edgework: no none what so ever. It also makes no diferance if i view the video small or full screen.

@joedin2056: Can you share an example of 3 or 4 videos that aren't loading for you?

every video on this website is like this, but it dose not matter any more, I am going to start using Internet Explorer as be default browser again.

If you're sure. Sorry about that. I wasn't able to replicate the issue. Are you by chance running adblock?

@DigitalDame: I have always had the same problem. Videos on gamespot are unwatchable. I'm using the latest version Firefox with Windows 7 (64bit) fully patched. If I run the same video on youtube (i.e https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z_342Try_sk) which you have on your gamespot too, everything's fine and it plays beautifully in HD (1080p). On gamespot it's choppy and my CPU jumps to around 40% but on youtube with the same video the CPU is around 5-10%. AND this is after disabling all AdBlock/Ghostery plugins etc etc. What's going on?

i can"t watch the videos either and I'll be damned if I switch to IE.

Yep, same thing happening to me. Firefox is updated too.

I get this message:

"This video is either unavailable or not supported in this browser

Error Code: MEDIA_ERR_SRC_NOT_SUPPORTED

Technical details:

No compatible source was found for this video."

@joedin2056: We'll be starting testing of our new HTML5 player in the next couple of weeks which should address the choppiness you're seeing. Keep an eye out!
