So with recent gas prices shooting higher and higher is anyone cutting back on their purchases so they can put gas in their car to get to work or school. I ranted a little bit in my journal about it earlier today, but curious to hear if it is affecting other candid collectors out there.

The possibility of going back to school full time (and taking a hefty salary cut) is what has caused me to take pause.

That and the ridiculously cheap prices for current gen games that are liekly to be coming once the next generation of hardware is released. As people trade in their XBox/PS2/GC and a certain # of games for cheap prices on new consoles, those old games will be cheaper and cheaper. Can't wait!

THe gas prices bolw, but i'm sitting in a nice jog, and my company vheicle has it's gass paid for so it'snot much of a problem for me at the moment. But that's subject to change.

That's sweet that you have a company car. I need to get me one of those, but I don't see that happening in the near future.

I have a 13-gallon Toyota Celica that costs me $30 to fill. I'm desperately trying to trade it for a Prius, but with med school looming next fall, I'm not sure where that money's gonna come from. I definitely have cut my gaming purchases down, but it has more to do simply with the rising cost of games than the rising cost of gas.

It's worse in canada, it's about $1.20 a liter, and there's about 3.5 liters in a gallon. It's seriously getting out of hand, i have to start leaving at night to go fill up my tank and hope that i find cheap gas. Hey, your in med school? Cool, what are you studying? I'm looking into signing up for a EMS program at my college when i go back next year.

I'm in the middle of applying to med school. I'll hopefully start next fall at Case Western Reserve or Ohio State (both near where I live now in Cleveland). I'm planning to do either pediatrics, neurology, or oncology. My girlfriend just started her first year of med school. She plans on going for pediatrics.

I've also just started training to be an EMT for the year at my local college. So far all we've done is get certified for CPR, but the class is really interesting and very rewarding. I'd highly recommend it. Feel free to PM me if you want to hear more about it.

Sorry for getting a bit off topic by the way.

EDIT: On a more related note, I can't wait to get my Prius. 50 MPG (as opposed to the 17 I get now), and it only costs about $20 to fill up the tank (which you only have to do about half as many times with a Hybrid)

Nope. Such is the wonder of the car pool.

Also, Gamestop is a (free) subway stop away, so I always ditch the car to go there. It's quicker and the ride is air conditioned (unlike my 1992 saturn).

Hey Fish, you're applying to safeties, too right? Saved me a lot of anxiety.

Oh I'm definitely applying to safety schools. I'm applying to every med school in Ohio (6), every med school in Pennsylvania (5), everywhere in Boston except Harvard, a few places in Chicago, and George Washington in D.C. (I did my undergrad at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore). These days you can't be too safe when applying to med school. Or law school for that matter.

Cleveland doesn't have a subway system, and it's usually about a 10-15 min drive to the nearest EB, Gamestop, or Best Buy

Well, gas prices haven't affected my collection negatively... though it affected me enough to sell it. Since I moved to a new place, everywhere I go is either within walking distance, bus route or train. I feel less stressed since I don't drive anymore. my desire to kill stupid drivers has waned greately. i do still drive here and there. Some of my friends hate driving, so I get tossed the keys. When I visit relatives, they let me use their vehicles to get around. It's all good.

All-in-all, I'd say the gas prices, forcing me to seel my car, has given me more extra $$$ to spend on games.

Oh man ... this is starting to get stupid. I'm lucky that i was given a credit card to pay for my gas that the truck i got from work burns. Gas is at $1.291 per liter for regular. It's stupid, this card has a $100 limit per swipe. So one swipe of the card buys me $100 of gas ... i tried to fill up, no good, i only ended up with 77 liters of fule, that's 3/4's of a tank. I can't even fill up my work truck, it's not even my money that's going into the tank and i'm getting pissed off about it.

I felt this needed posting,

I went to the gas station yesterday and filled my tank (half a tank) it cost $54.55 and the gas station only accepts bills lower then 20! so I paid it in 5s and 10s and 1s

they should really reconsider that rule.....

Yea, that whole fear of large counterfit bills is pretty bogus, there's been cases where even banks refused to take 100's and at this point it's absolutly riddiculous, they should have counterfit detection methods in place so that this is at least not an issue at the bank.

people are stealing gas now, people are getting STABBED for gas now! I'm thinking of traveling back to the 70s during the oil embargo and showing them that the hippies and beatnicks were right (the government just said it was their crazy idea anyway even though it wasn't) then we would be using all those alternate methods of fuel that exist but are unused because "gas helps the economy" (go government) same reason diseases and illnesses don't get cures (again go government)

It's easier to walk places when you don't live 1.5 hours from the nearest bus stop.
