What is the highest amount you have paid for a game, what was it, and was it worth it?

I'll start:
$145
Suikoden II
Not sure yet, have not played it.

Steel Battalion on Xbox for $149.99 and I have no idea, b/c it's still sealed.  Before that the record belonged to Phantasy Star on the Master System for $69.99 (the MSRP), and that one was worth every penny.

I more of a dumpster (bargain bin) diver.  I see $25 for a cart-only Super Metroid and I get a bit squeamish.  I guess the most I've paid for something would be the $200 I paid for Gran Turismo 4 and the Logitech Driving Force Pro steering wheel.  Totally worth it.  Makes GT a completely different game if you ask me.

Oooof. That would make me squeamish, too.  I bought a copy of Super Metroid a few weeks ago to resell and I think I paid $6 for it, which is about the top end I'd pay for just the cartridge.  My complete, nice one only cost about $15.

$90 for Suikoden II (or Suikoden 2.0 as I like to call it) about 5 years ago. A friend had lent me his copy and I sat on it, cracking the thing in half. Considering how bad I felt, price was no option in replacing it. I played the game after I got the replacement and I think it was definitely worth it. He scolded me, saying I didn't have to replace it, but he's done at least 4 playthroughs since then. I think I made the right choice.

I paid $130 for the Ace Combat 5 collectors box... (Steel Battalion cost me $80+shipping, Suikoden II was free, DBGT:FB cost me $65 for a brand new copy, my cart only Super Metroid was $2)
all worth it except DBGT:FB... crappy game.

Ah, now it comes out. I feel some kind of "Who gets the best bargains?" war coming on, especially now that we have someone who is annointed as "THE Bargain Hunter" among us.:D

I remember considering a purchase of the extra-fancy AC5, but I'm not the biggest flight sim fan.  Hori does make good equipment, though.

When I started this thread I knew it would get hi-jacked in this manner sooner or later. (Suikoden II was free)!

Then let's preemptively un-hijack it.

The most I've paid for a new game is the aforementioned $150 Steel Battalion. The most that I've paid for a used game is $95 for Suikoden II, and unfortunately, I can't assess that one either. I think that the most I've paid for a game that I've thought was a justifiable price was the ~$80 for my copy of Last Resort on the Neo Geo. It's a great game, and it's 2-player co-op, which is sort of uncommon in an shooter akin to R-Type.

my SB was super-luck, thanks to the PotD board at gamefaqs, I found out about the 50% off pre-orders and SB was on pre-order... 135 in half is sweet... I almost baught some used ones as well... for multilinking LoC

I paid $75 for a new and sealed copy of Double Dragon 2 for NES.  Probably more than its worth but I got it for a tenth birthday present way back so I was high on nostalgia.

The most for a single game I have paid is probably either King of Fighters XI (PS2) or Naruto: Narutimate Hero 3 (PS2) as both were about $63 new. KOF was worth it, but Naruto was OK, not the best.

$70 for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for PS2 (disc only :().

Hell yes it was worth it.  I've played the crap out of that game since getting it seeing how I was jonesing to relive my glory days at the arcade.

Someday if I'm lucky I'll come across the box/manual on the cheap to make it a complete copy, but for now I'm content to have the part that really matters.

The highest for a used game has changed for me, since I recently paid about $140, with the shipping considered for King of Fighers 2002 on the AES.  It's a pretty sweet fighter.

I can't justify to myself paying more for a game then the MSRP; hence the most expensive game Ive purchased is one of a number of PS2/Xbox collector editions for $60. Not to say I haven't been tempted to buy radiant silvergun or an AES with some games but I have fought off the urge (even though some part of me is jealous of those who have gone for the gaming gold).

However, I too try to bargain bin dive as much as possible, especially no with all the Xbox/PS2/GC games going for virtually nothing at EB/GS. Within the past 6 months I think Ive only spent above $12 for a console game 2x (Okami and FF XII). I have been viewing everything that costs more than $9.99 as expensive. My word of advice to everyone is plunder these bins right now for all that they are worth.

Excellent advice.  I think I have added a good 60 games from those consoles over the last 2 months in this manner.  I think I've pretty much scraped the bottom of the barrel at this point.

It has actaully changed my philosophy on game buying.  I am thinking that the smartest thing to do is wait on as many titles as I can until the end of the cycle, only buying games that I want to play immediately (likfe Gears of War) or games that I think will be impossible to find later (anything made by NIS).

Ya, I have gotten semiburned by this. I waited and waited to get eternal darkness, now that I want it I cant find it anywhere. I know I could easily get it online, but I try to buy games that wont be shipped to the house. Its easier to downplay my spending habbits to my wife that way (haha, Ive been known to go overboard with things and the purchase of a new TV has not left me much room to argue increasing my spending). I also buy DS games new since I have learned that many EB/GS wont keep the boxes for the used DS games.

Really? I find that generally isn't the case with the two Babbages/EB Games stores in my area. All of my domestic DS games are used and were complete. The first domestic DS game I will buy new is going to be Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin.

Babbage's?!?  Are you just going old-school here, or are your local stores still actually called "Babbages"?

Maybe they never got the memo.

Or maybe they just didn't want to bother paying for a new sign.  :P

No, I'm not kidding! There are two stores from the EB/GS chain in my area, one is EB Games, the other still has the sign unchanged and it is Babbage's! I doubt there is anything in the actual store that has that name on it anymore, but the sign is still Babbage's.

Ya, its wierd/odd/ annoying. I purchased the first Castlevania game used at GS and they looked at the case when I brought it and said "hmm, this should have been in the trash"-not kidding- then thought about it for a second, shrugged their shoulders, and gave me the case.

It was worth it, though.  Ogre Battle 64 was by far the best game in that series.  Better than anythign Square Enix crapped out in that time period ;)  IMO, of course...
