Indeed. The only reason Button only gets the British national anthem once because he drives for a British team too.

Redders1989

That could get to be quite annoying after a while IF they didnt use common sense! I know the FIA can be a bit silly at times, so to hear a countries national anthem TWICE while Button, Hamiltion etc are on the podium, would be daft!

At last, FIA did something right for once!!

[QUOTE="mgmeek"]Isn't RBR based in the UK though?Redders1989

Exactly. RBR would be the British nathional anthem, so there was no mess-up.

Aren't Toyota based in Germany, so would that mean they would play the German instead of Japanese anthem?

I do like what Dietrich Mateschitz said

"I was surprised and I wondered why they played the British anthem," he said. "It was a mistake. This should not happen again. But we will give the FIA some more opportunities to get it right in the future!"

Red Bull Racing is technically an Austrian team, as it is registered as Austrian, so yes, it was a mistake. They are based in the UK however, so the mistake was easily made. Toro Rosso are an Italian team on the other hand.

Actually, when I think about it, it doesn't quite make sense. Look at the last three cases (from my knowledge) of differences in countries for base country/recognised country:

HUNGARY 2006: Honda (Japan), based in Brackley (United Kingdom) - Japanese National Anthem played.
ITALY 2008: Toro Rosso (Austrian), based in Faenza (Italy) - Italian National Anthem played.
CHINA 2009: Red Bull (Austrian), based in Milton Keynes (United Kingdom) - British National Anthem played.

The Red Bull/Toro Rosso ones were different in comparison to Honda. So which one is right? :?

I would think that the FIA has the anthem that the teams wish to be played when they win. So a Honda/Toyota would make sense to request a Japanese anthem as that is a manufacturer. Red Bull is just a product and international so the teams' HQ anthem makes sense. They couldn't choose just any old anthem, likely have to choose between either the sponsor/manufacturer or the team base of operations.

Man, NASCAR is so much simpler! :P

Yeah, they just have to play the Digger theme.

I saw a video clip of that once. Sorry, but their reasons as to why NASCAR is better than F1 is just pure fail.

Toro Rosso are Italian, not Austrian, they are different from Red Bull for whatever reason.

The teams are registered as the following nationalities:

McLaren- British
Ferrari- Italian
BMW- German
Renault- French
Toyota- Japanese
Toro Rosso- Italian
Red Bull- Austrian
Williams- British
Force India- Indian
Brawn GP- British

I guess the teams decide their nationality, which explains the Red Bull/Toro Rosso difference. Honda was the correct anthem, Toro Rosso was correct, but Red Bull was incorrect.

Aw, it was just supposed to be light-hearted, came off a little confrontational though.

And thanks for clearing that up cjek. :)

On account of you bringing up NASCAR. Two great tastes that go great together... I've got the hat, t-shirt and plushie. About the Toro Rosso/Red Bull difference. Language. Italian/English. But no. It was basically a clause in the Minardi buyout contract, keep the national heritage and factory in Italy. (according to unconfirmed sources) You know they'll do Das Lied der Deutschen (to be overly technical) when Toyota wins. And 5;8;ط6;ي (Iraq) when Force India wins. You mean there is a difference between Apu and the guy at the 7-Eleven?
