The 26-year has missed both pre-Christmas tests in Spain over the past two weeks following the injury he sustained in a recent karting accident and although it is healing, he will not now be back behind the wheel until the new year.
However Button will be making the trip to Jerez in order to keep up to date with the team's winter testing programme.
"We have been monitoring Jenson's rib injury over the last few weeks and are delighted to say that it is healing very well," a spokeswoman told ITV-F1.com
"To ensure the healing process continues unabated we have taken the decision that Jenson will not drive at this week's test in Jerez.
"He will however attend the test to take part in the engineering meetings and to continue to stay fully up to date with our winter development programme."
