A magazine, known as "GT Porsche", has stirred up some speculation that Mark Webber will be leaving Formula One to drive for Porsche in the LMP1 category in the World Endurance Championship from next year.

So @AussieGrit we'll see you in an LMP1 Porsche next year (and a further 4 after that). Excellent news!GT Porsche on Twitter

The suggested 5 year deal would mean Red Bull would be looking for a new driver to partner Sebastian Vettel, whose contract ends at the culmination of the 2014 season.

Can we believe this story to be true? Is it someone trying to get attention? Your thoughts.

It would not surprise me if he leaves F1, his form has dipped a lot since the 2010 title challenge, whether that is internal issues at Red Bull or whether it is just his form has dropped I do not know. I would have hoped he would sign for a different team on the grid but if this is true it would also make sense I guess. Is the GT championship a popular sport? I feel like I used to see highlights on Channel 4 years ago (along with WRC and other motor sports) but now I do not see it.

I heard about it during the 6 Hours of Silverstone. A bit strange, I figured he would want to get away from Germans.

Mark is careful in the words he choose to use during interviews not to disclose more than he is willing to give away. In the pre-race interviews for China he was asked about his future and he just gave a cagey answer that he was focusing on working for the team for this season.

I can't see him wanting to remain at Red Bull beyond this season so will certainly be keeping his options open, but I would have thought he would want to be looking for a seat with another team before looking outside F1. I suspect this rumour is just grabbing people's attention, or could be agent / internal politics to send someone at Red bull a message.

Rumours like this have a funny way of coming true.

I don't think his form dipped after the year he almost won - just that he couldn't get to grips ( ha ha ) with the new tires as easily as Vettel. I read somewhere that Webber found the style of driving necessary to get as much from the tires as Seb to be "counter intuative". ( having re-read that sentance it opens up a whole new debate of what constitues "form" I guess  )

Other than Ferrari I can't see him signing anywhere else on the grid and I really hope he doesn't - I hated the way Reubens ended his F1 career, grubbing round at the back, and don't want to see Mark do the same. Win a couple of races this year and go out on a high!

I can see him wanting to still satisfy his competitive nature though so wouldn't be surprised to see him in a different form of motorsport!

I honestly think he needs to be at a different team, even if it means going to somebody like Force India as I feel he could do a job and make a good car in development with a new team and also perhaps find his confidence rise back up after its taken a bit of beating with him being pretty much out raced/qualified consistently by him team mate at present.

Mark going back to his roots in GT racing maybe good for him, he can satisfy his racing urge and have a shot at winning, I really like Mark and have always been a keen supporter of his abilities, but his time at Red Bull is up due to the team not handling things between him and Seb very well.

Mark was always number 2 when Seb arrived, if he never slipped up in Korea that day he'd of been champion, that will be his greatest rue.

I hope Mark stays longer in F1 perhaps Ferrari because him and Alonso are great friends and that'd be a nice environment while Bianchi develops, but I can't see him staying in F1 which is sad :(

Well, for now at least, the rumours have (not surprisingly) been shown as false - the Porsche team have signed their two drivers for next year. If Mark is leaving F1, it won't be with those LMP1 boys.
