Set against the sexy, glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing in the 1970s. Based on the true story of a great sporting rivalry between handsome English playboy James Hunt (Hemsworth), and his methodical, brilliant opponent Niki Lauda, (Bruhl). This looks epic! They've picked the right actors for lookalikes too!

Working in a cinema will pay dividends to see this ;)

I went to see it today with my girlfriend (a recently converted F1 fan who is oddly well versed in 70s F1 from BBC4 documentaries) and my little brother (who isn't the biggest fan of F1, but doesn't mind the games). I loved it myself, I thought it was incredibly overdramatic at parts (the beating up a journalist bit was a little too far fetched, unless of course it actually happened), but the on track action was fantastic, and I appreciated the appearance of the 6 wheeled Tyrell. I didn't like how almost no other drivers even seemed to exist, just the two and a cameo from Clay Regazzoni, but I guess for the sake of a coherent script this was necessary. I did, however, appreciate the film not holding back on the swearing, it really stopped it from being the squeaky-clean half documentary I was expecting. My brother thinks it's the best film he's seen all year, he didn't know who won the 1976 season, so he was on the edge of his seat, and my girlfriend really enjoyed the on track action, and the character of Niki Lauda, who I thought was excellent. The man sitting behind me sobbed at the monologue at the end as well, which I thought was very well done.

One glaring issue I had with the film was when Hunt and Lauda pit in during the German  GP, there was about 40 seconds between them in making it out the pit lane, but Hunt was already at the banked curve about 3/4 of the way round the track. That must've been one quick lap :P

Kip pointed out that when Lauda passed the retired Hunt at the Italian GP... he somehow did it at the Brands Hatch circuit!
