We do expect much but that's because they promised alot at the E3.

But the first f1 game on the ps2 was crap and 05 was too easy, so we're getting there and they can do alot with the ps3. The only possible problem are the rights, what if Microsoft buys them. :|

Game looks awesome though for a first gen game and better than any race games microsoft has to offer.

I think that if any exclusive rights are to be purchased by MS, it would be the NASCAR series makes more marketing sense... but the truth is MS isn't as interested in motorsports as Sony is. You can find the PS logo in F1 and MotoGP.. I've never seen a xbox logo.

I cant believe they dropped the safety car - I've been waiting months for this game and just got paid today and now might not even buy it... The safety car and pit strategies are one of the biggest parts of every F1 race. For them to leave it out is just plain lazy and just plain stupid. I love F1 but that may just be too much to tolerate.

Honestly the lack of a safety car is not that big a pain for me. What gets me about the game are the weird time penalties they hit you with for going off-track. It's understandable that they need a way to penalize cheaters but it seems real inconsistent in its implementation. Some tracks, such as Monza, seem much more sensitive to giving you penalities for putting a wheel or two off, while in Monaco it's practically impossible to get a penalty, unless you cross the safety line while pitting out... Of course, there's next to no run-off in Monaco, so it sort of makes sense. Regardless the system seems a bit haphazard in implementation, even if I understand what they were trying to do.

Good point made Brian. I believe that they should inplement the real rule for cutting the track. being....

1. If you overtake by cutting across the track you have to give back that place or face a Drive-through Penalty
2. Cutting across the track in a premeditated way will automatically be given a Drive though penatly
3 ( for those who don't know or need reminding)
If drive-though penalty is not served in 3 laps, it will equal Disqualification.

What do you lot think?

Yeah that would work. The thing is, in the real world, drivers aren't really penalized for driving through a chicane (such as the one after the tunnel in Monaco), as long as they don't gain a position from it. Granted you can't do it every lap or you'll get nailed but as tires wear down and grip is lost, these things happen. As long as the driver isn't getting an unfair advantage, and doesn't make regular practice out of it, you probably shouldn't be penalized. That said, I understand why Studio Liverpool instigated this system--to prevent folks from cutting corners in online races.

As a post-script, I have no idea why they didn't just institute mandatory drive-throughs as you describe kipi. It would be easy enough to do--as you approached the pit lane, the game would take over your car, send you through the pit lane and out the exit and you're back on track. Seems like it would make more sense than the arbitrary time penalties...

I think the reason why they implemented that penalty system is to make it more accessible for new comers. A newcomer might quickly get bored if he gets too many drive-through penalties during a race and he might give up eventually. Yet, I agree that the system can be very cruel and inaccurate sometimes. As a passionate F1 fan, I still prefer to apply the real rules.

F106 was good, so unless Sony completly changed the game, it's going to be exactly the same game. My favourite track is Monaco or Spa, so I'm annoyed that we're playing the 06 formation. At the same time I'm a Micheal Schumacher [sorry, my spelling is definitley wrong!] fan, so I'm glad you get to play as him one last time!

formula 1 99 had the safety car, and that game was on the ps1, probablyu one of the best f1 games ever.when the safety car came out then all the cars did the proper warming of their tires and pitted accordingly, it was  really good. i dont understand why they cant put something they made work in a ps1 game into a ps3 game.

Formula 1 99 wasnt made by SCEE is was made by studio 33. SCEE didnt put a safety in F1CE because they didnt want to. Since they have exclusive rights to F1 games, they can do watever they like and we have to accept it. so they could make an under-par F1 game and say "if u dont like it, tough s***". F1 gaming would of been a helluva lot better if there had of been some competition...

In a european hands on article, they previewed the european version and said something interesting. They mentioned PSP connectivity in this version.

So if this is true than Europeans can use a PSP as mirrors at launch! And it is rumored to be added for americans too using a game patch.

Dutch hands on: http://www.ps3only.nl/artikel.php?aid=208

A great game.  Using the DFP or even the sixaxis tilt is an amazing and beautiful experience.  I can finally stop playing F1 challenge on my pc and Grand prix challenge on the ps2/3.

A few other things are bugging me about this game:

- No way to adjust gear ratios when "evolving" the car. Normally I like the car evolution feature during the two Friday practices a lot. It gives you a chance to try a lot of different settings and feel how those changes affect the car. Unfortuantely, you have to wait until the Saturday practice to make specific adjustments to your car, so if you're at Montreal (as I am right now in my career) you have to wait until Saturday until you can make the crucial gear ratio changes that the super-fast course requires.

- I wish you could save in between sessions during the GP Weekend. After spending two hours on the track during the dual-Friday practice sessions, I'm usually ready to turn off the PS3 and take a break. Unfortunately, you can't. Instead, you have to power on through to qualifying and then to the race (where, if you're like me, you're stuck for another hour-and-a-half because you insist on running 100%-length races. A save option in between the three practice sessions and qualifying would have been much smarter.

- Car AI can be punishingly dumb sometimes, especially when you're moving through slower traffic in qualifying. Cars don't make any attempt to get out of your way when you're on a flying lap and it's way too easy to get caught out (or worse yet, crash into) a virtual Jenson Button who's driving like he's in this year's Honda...

- I thought I wouldn't care about the 2006 roster and liveries but, now that the 2007 season has begun, this just looks painfully out of date.

All in all, a great game that I'm enjoying a lot, but I'm hoping this kind of stuff gets fixed in the next version.

I've not played a F1 game done by EA, and if this is true, it'll be very nice to see what they come up with.

EA doesn't have the rights and with F1 CE being the 2nd best selling PS3 game sony might want to renew it soon.

Best selling PS3 games (worldwide)

1.Resistance

2. F1

3. Motorstorm

I've been playing this game for 2 weeks now and I really like it but it has a few cons. 1 is that this game only supports 3 steering wheels while GT HD supports almost all.

I don't miss FFB but it's too hard too drive without the ABS system on online (not singleplayer) it feels like the car just reactes too slow. Career mode is too basic and only 5 seasons?? whats up with that, Schumacher fans won't be able too become 7 times world championship in this game. But the game has much more pros so F1 fans and racing fans go get it!!!

EA would totally screw up the game if they got the license back, they've done it with just about every other game they have in there library over the past few years.

No matter who has the license I just hope that they make a game for this season and release it here in America. Of course even if they don't the PS3 is region free so importing won't be a big problem.

A few comments after playing for a while:

  • Albers has got to be the most annoying guy to lap, he's taken me out/caused a spin/punctured a tire a handful of times since I got the game.
  • Commentary can get rather annoying at times, well lack of accurate commentary.
  • There have been a few ocasions when I have set a new fast lap by .100 while being slower by .100 in every sector.

I'm not going to complain about other small things like drivers & liverys being outdated or anything else. Being an avid American F1 fan I'm just happy to have a game considering that we have been left out since 2002.

I think that if any exclusive rights are to be purchased by MS, it would be the NASCAR series makes more marketing sense... but the truth is MS isn't as interested in motorsports as Sony is. You can find the PS logo in F1 and MotoGP.. I've never seen a xbox logo.

They advertise the Xbox 360 on The two Holden Racing Team Commodores in the V8 Supercar series.

Oh and by the way, what are the bonus cars on this game?

I agree. DAmn why did I sell my PS1! I only kept the original Gran Turismo. Wasn't there a safety car in F1200 by Studio 33?

If Microsoft buys the rights, I will strangle Bill Gates. lol joking but id still be angry. F1CE was the only reason I bought the PS3 instead of the Xbox 360!

Bostadskontrakt provided me a link with a forum board to Championship Edition if you're still into talking about this game
