Cid was a person that takes people on rides in his airships. In the beginning he is a bit arrogant and unfriendly, changing the price of the trip depending where it goes. Then he finds out the group is enemies with teh evil empire and is willing to help your part out.

Btw, the answer is right. The place is called "Deep Sea Research". Squall's ring is named "Griever", unless you renamed it.
