do IX, the systems are easier to jump into, the characters r better, the storyline makes a bit of sense compared to VIII which makes no sense in the slightest, the storyline is seriously THE WORST THING EVER IN VIDEOGAMING HISTORY! well apart frm religious games...if you do play VIII, call rinoa "anal", it's not my idea, it's spoonys idea, but its still hilarious, call rinoa "anal", literally made the game bearable for me...A_Fading_Scream
The storilyne isn't the worst. You should see Hitman, the game is pretty good but it makes no sense. I dont agree with the spoony one on that. FF IX is a lot better, its the most nostalgic game of my life!

Its not calling Rinoa Anal, it's the dog, he named her a Whore, wich made some parts of the game pretty funny!

"A whore uses anal"

"As she walks around she learns more anal tricks"

But is 8 really that bad?EpiphoneMan2008

I recommend 8 first just so you can appreciate the reference at the end of 9.

And I thank you all for that. :D

Btw, since you intend to have all your characters @ Level 99, I recommend you to take on the Magic Pots in FFVII and the Yans in FF9. In FF8, spend time in Island Closest to Hell. In FF10, well, there is really no such thing as Level 99... Unless you consider your sphere level... I have all FFX characters @ Level 99 sphere level, but Inever touched the spehere grid even once. :P In FF12, I have no idea where is the best place to level up.

Fantasy_Gamer

u finished the game without upgrading your skills or magic at all from the sphere grid. theres something odd about that because you need to upgrade your skills from the sphere grid to become more powerful. how did you complete the game?

Ha! It IS possible. Actually, the game became harder when I played the International version with Sphere Grid upgrading... If you can't believe I finished FFX without Sphere Grid... You might tell me I'm a big liar if I tell you that I beat all Monster Arena Bosses, except 3 without Sphere Grid Upgrade. :P :D

what really damn thats good. i might try that.

[QUOTE="EpiphoneMan2008"]Which should i start first? FFVIII or FFIX?DrAwesomeMD

I'd go with FFIX. Easier to jump into IMO. The junction system can be really tedious during the first disc.

i say go with 8 and then 9. 8 is a much better game and play things in order how it was meant to be. i personally think 9 is a step back from 8.

Until you get a good magic stat(which can take a bit, seeing as how there isn't a whole lot of good magic spells at the beginning), junctioning a lot of good magic is going to get annoying. I tried replaying the game last Saturday. I spent 12 MINUTES drawing 100 fire and cure spells, then another 7 drawing sleep from another enemy. Yeah. That's what I wanna do. Draw for 12 minutes while my enemies beat down on me(and even with sleep boosting my magic stat, I was still only averaging 7 spells and getting an occasional 5) The junction system is good, but I'll say it again, it's tedious on the first disc.

FFIX's ability system is easy and to the point. You equip different things, go out, fight, get AP, and learn different moves. You never even have to grind, as battles come along at a good enough pace so that by the time there's new equipment, you're already done with the old(unless you're trying to learn High Tide).

BTW, if I'm giving off a hostile vibe, I don't mean to. I just figured this as a good chance to have a friendly debate.

FFVIII and grinding should never be said in the same sentence. Why draw for 12 minutes at one time? Thats boring. Just draw a few times with each character then finish off the critter. By the time you get to where you want to go you will have 100 on everything. Until you get a bunch of GF's to allow you to junction the magic you really dont have to spend a lot of time drawing magic. Why waste time drawing when you dont have any places to put the magic? Just get what you need and wait for more GF's and better spells to become avaliable.

I guess I wasnt sticking around to enjoy the scenery enough in FFIX, because until I got Ability Up I was behind on gaining abilities. Which was annoying because I would want the more powerful weapon/equipment but had to wait until I finished off learning something. Or I'd have a strong item on and have to swap in for a weaker one because I needed to learn the ability.

nah ur not being hostile. but in ff9 the different weapons make u level differently and that is not even explained in the books i found out on here after what 7 or 8 years playing it. and you really dont have to draw 100 of each spell. i know that if you do have 100 of a spell ur stats are boosted more but is it really necessary no because you will be strong enough to beat anyone at anytime.

It could be me, because I like to prepare ahead of time. For instance, I like to have 100 water spells ready for when I unlock HP-J so I can equip it right away, and I like to have 100 of another spell to equip to my strength when I get Ifrit.

I do spend a little bit of time getting Vivi, Steiner, and Zidane to level 4 before fighting the boss in the evil forest, and then Garnet and everyone else to level 5 before the Ice Cavern, so it could be that that gets me my abilities early on(but that doesn't qualify as grinding IMO because I only do it for about 5 minutes at a time). I also seek out every treasure in a dungeon, making me spend some extra time in it.

Well, they're hard to compare as FFVIII has a more realistic look, while FFIX has a more anime style. But yeah, I'll give FFVIII the edge as the opening scene was awesome.

I quite enjoyed FFVIII but the system is way to easy to break - you will probably either be underpowered or overpowered.

As for FFIX, I never got that far with it.  But suddenly I feel like I should play it.  Yet I can't find my PS2.  I have all the cables and the controller and the game but no PS2.  Must be in the same place as my Xbox 360 controller's battery pack.
