I entered the world of Squeenix through Kingdom Hearts. So, whenever I came across a FF villian, I formed an opinion on them because, at that time, I hadn't been sucked into the addicting plots that come with FF games. (Thanks Emil and Vin, you've created a monster).

Kefka is almost always protrayed in a non-serious manner. So, when I finally got to VI, and first met him, my first impression was that they are right. He's so clutsy and immature and just overall not really villian material.

Or so I thought.

When he poisioned Doma's river, I was surprised. I thought that he might finally morph into something terrifying. But he didn't. He continued being the typical worthless villian type that he had always been(like Team Rocket). It wasn't until I got to Thalmasa(where he kills the espers and General Leo(I liked him too, dang it)) that I realized that I was right. Suddenly, Kefka shows us this dark side that surprised me. After killing all of these things, and turning the world upside down, I couldn't ever believe that he was just some loony clown ever again. I actually dreaded fighting him in the final battle, and a small part of me expected the true antagonist to step up and Kefka to have a turn around. I thought that perhaps it was just a phase he was going through.

Obviously, I was wrong. I'm not sure that there is a villian out there as immoral as Kefka is. If there is, would you guys do me a favor let me know now? I don't want a full summary, just a little 'well, there is so-and-so from FF##.' I have VII, VII, X and XII covered.

Kefka was the heck of a villian. He kinda brings out the main theme to Final Fantasy. What I really like about him is his immature nature. He seemed very much like a joker in playing card in which there is no escape, but to have a chance to mabey draw another one. Him running away all the time seemed to be part of his act. Seeing Kefka as one the most interesting bosses, he was a truly immortal, until he met me.

Good analogy. I agree. I'd hate to stumble across him again(please, Square, let's not add him to KH).

It may just be my slight fear of clowns talking, but he is, in my opinion, the scariest final fantasy boss. I think that because he acts like a failure and still manages to destroy everything he's even more freaky. Then again, clowns. *shivers*

Kuja had feelings, to laugh at people. The thing was Exdeath, had no feelings. He wanted to consume the Universe. And he was close.

Neo Exdeath would obliterate Kefka. A insane clown versus A centurys yr old dark entity...Exdeath would win.

I see Kefka as being Batman's Joker. He doesn't have a reason...he just is. Alfred's statement in "Dark Knight" hits the nail on the head: "Some men just want to watch the world burn."

I don't know. I didn't really took Kefka seriously. He's just a crazy clown... He doesn't really know what he's doing that's why he can do horrible things.

Then I still stand by my comparison that he is the Joker but I would argue that the Joker really did plan things out and know what he was doing or atleast it always seems like it.

Insane and powerful, really a potent and dengerous combination if you ask me. He probably is the most insane of any FF character possibly of any Square or game character at that.

I think I prefer the misguided ones over the others. They just seem more real to me and I find it impressive when developers can actually get me to care for the enemy.

Thats a good example, Kefka would actually probably laugh at just about anything including what we are saying about him. We are very active today good job everyone:D That would really get Kefka going but then he'd probably insult us:(

Ex-Death is the epitome of "evil for evil's sake". He wasn't a person that turned evil, he was evil that turned into a person. Still very cool though.

A tree from the Great Forest of Moore, so corrupted by evil spirits it gained sentience and took humanoid form. I really like the shot of Exdeath melded to the evil tree when you fight him before Neo-Exdeath at the end.

This game is in desperate need of a proper 3D remake like III and IV got. I would buy that day 1 and lot's of other people would get to experience one of the greats for the first time.

Kefka, to me, is the most terrifying type of enemy that anyone could have. He's perfectly and utterly insane, laughing at all things funny, ironic, and cruel. There is malice behind each smile. He's blood-thirsty and power hungry; willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants. Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that Kefka is reminiscent of the Joker and I couldn't agree more. The very things that make the Joker a great villian also make Kefka a great villain. He makes you laugh at inappropriate times and then you hate yourself for it. He's the kind of villian that would stab you repeatedly and smile and laugh at you while he did it with that insane glint in his eye. Kefka is, in my opinion, the ultimate Final Fantasy villain. He's not pure evil, he's not misguided, but he is totally insane. That, in my mind, makes him utterly terrifying.

And even though he is completely insane, he is still able to organize and pull off complicated attack plans or strategies, or maybe that is more so the Joker:P

Now I wonder if you are being serious as thats what he does in VI or you are only being symbolic for his actions in VI cause I don't know, I didn't get that far into VI, scratch that because I put IX in here at first cause I thought we were talking about Kuja for some reason so I had to edit it to VI which I haven't played at all:P

Kefka likes to run from battle so he makes one based move like a pawn and shows no power at all. But like in chess if a pawn moves to the end of the board it can be replased by a stronger piece, and what Kefka is doing is just like that. His power because greater and he exchanges himself for something stronger.

I would consider Sephiroth insane. His personality completely changed to hero to villian. The whole mother thing points to him and all of his"brothers" to being loopy. It is not even their mother which obviously makes them a cult of somesort. He snaps when he realizes he is just a monster.SPOILER for FFX kind of

Seymour is quite insane as well...anyone who would kill their father.

Sephiroth went pretty haywire when he found out what happens to SOILDER, so he researched Jenova. He only ever thought that it was his mom because Hojo told him that. But if you think about it, its kinda true since Sephiroth did hold it's genes from before birth. Also Seymours insanity was basicially caused by his mom too since she gave him Anima.
