FFX and Penance

I was just wondering if anyone has actually defeated the secret boss Penance in FFX.

With or without Zanmato...preferably without, but in dozens of attemps i can't even get Yojimbo to do it once.

If you beat him (it?) without Zanmato, how did you do it?

Definitely the hardest boss i have ever faced in any game...

Yeah, I live in Australia so i have the 'international' version.

The dark aeons were all pretty easy (once you learned their patterns and pumped everyone's stats) except for the Magus Sisters, you just have to absorb their Overdrives with your own aeons. Magus sisters i only beat with Zanmato, thats why i want to know if its possible to beat Penance without it.

max stats all characters,have ultimate weapons, HP must be about 60,000 (that would be enough), have all the overdrives. i think that pretty much all you need to beat him.

I have the international version but i'm stuck with dark ifrit i've beaten all the others, i don't want to use zamnato (and even when i tried about 20 times he never did it:( ) I've given up for now i need some serious levels before i try it again RedNEXUS

Whaaa, I hate Dark Ifrit, I killed him like 20 times to get an armor with 4 slots and ribbon for a character I didn't already have that, I nearly went nuts. But I'm still (for like 1 year) maxing my stats and pimping my armors with auto-haste before I go for Penance. I'm watching that video, though (thx for the tipp), but it doesn't look that intimidating, that guys characters have 40k HP and mine have 80k atm, so it could be possible *starts to his PS2*

I'd do it if i had the time...i've got enough other games to worry about before i try to do the one last thing in a game...

Still it would be nice to go back and do it without Zanmato at some point.

Gamewise just the dark aeons and penance (don't have the US though). There's also a bonus disk with interviews, artworks, trailers, previews to Kingdom Hearts (1) and the music video of 'Suteki Da Ne'. The Japanese International version (yeah, sounds weird) additionally features 'Another Story'.

If you are able to fight the Dark Aeons in your version of FFX, then yes, you have the Interantional Version.

Penance has an attack that will wipe everyone out =)

I saw that....Thats why you need Auto-Phoenix and some ungodly amounts of HP.....:P

If they're all dead, who would auto-phoenix :D? You have to kill his arms so he can't use that attack. From what I've seen in that movie on youtube, that guy uses Rikku for hp/mp replenishment and tanks attacks with Sentinel while Tidus and Wakka Quick Hit and Wakka uses Attack Reels now and then and Tidus Entrusts his overdrive to him. I'm guessing Tidus and Wakka use a Triple Overdrive weapon and overdrive mode is comrade. From watching, it doesn't look that hard if you leveled enough, but doing 10 million damage is time consuming.

They all have insane hp, couple of million in some cases, :P

Dark Anima's Oblivion is guaranteed to kill anything you have instantly too :?
