No there isn't. It has you pay attention to change up your tactics based on your surroundingsequimanthorn01You could say the exact same thing for my Burnout example. Regardless, you know as well as I do that this argument is completely irrelevant.
[QUOTE="equimanthorn01"]You could still tell a lot about enemies thanks to the enviroment you fought them in. so yes they didGamer4Iife
I call that "using your head", not "using the environment to your advantage". :P
You don't seem to understand what I mean at all, so allow me to give you an example. In FFI-X, there were no movement involved in the battles. The closest thing they did was implement the 'row' feature. You could have a weak character stay in the back row, which will allow them to resist melee attacks better but they were never truly safe from the enemies. Final Fantasy XII changed all that.
You could literally have your mages cast their offensive magicks from afar while your 'tanks' distract enemies from up close. In tight corridors, like the Rabanastre sewers, you can use your ranged weapons on enemieson a different floor. By the time they even reach you, they'd be either dead or seriously hurt.
That's realstrategy, not predicting your enemy's weakness by looking at the background or whatever it is you were talking about. And it's something you couldn't dream of doing in previous games.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Â

Yes, I could.
Burnout has you pay attention to the environment and change your driving tactics based on your surroundings.
See ? I just did.

At first I wasn't fond of the non-random battles. But it grew on me. Plus it was nice to be able to book it out of there if sh*t hit the fan.
If FF never has random battles again, it won't piss me offyou arent a true FF fan then, the random battles and the turn based classic system make FF games what they are.
Then I guess games like Pokemon and Dragon Quest are FF games too, if that's what makes them what they are.
tahts not what i meant. But Final Fantasy isnt final fantasy without certain things. A good story, something XII lacked, interesting characters, something else XII lacked, its trademark iconis battle system, something again XII lacked. The only thing it did have was the music. And random battles is included. Its the fun of it all, the flash to black on the screen and bam enemis appear, way more fun then like running up to some wolf in the desert, wheres the fun in that?
I like random battles, but also welcome changes, as long as I like the changes. FFXII, like I've said before, had "meh" changes to me, so therefore I liked the random battles in many of the previous FF's before XII more than XII's system. Maybe XIII will offer some interesting changes that may impress me more.DJ-Lafleuri am in the same boat with this guy.

But see, as long ass FF has those characters and great story, I could honestly care less if it had random battles or changed up the battle system.
As far as the fun of random battles, I don't like getting back attacked by some of the hardest random enemies in the game, which happened to me numerous times in the last dungeon of the FFIV remake.

OMG! Thats part of the freaking challenge you goon, isn't that why you play the games?!?!? You want it to be an easy walkthrough? Its good to get challenegd every now and then sheesh i don't understand you people. Final Fantasy without random battles sucks, proved it with XII

Don't flip out. I'm fine with a challenge, but getting back attacked and then getting attacked 3 times in a row with 2000+ damage being delt each attack isn't my definition of a "challenge", it's cheap.
what do you consider chalenging? seting the gambits, puting down the command and leting your characters beat up the foes...?

DreamersLegacy
No. :P I consider boss fights like Proto-Babil challenging, but there's a fine like between challenging and just plain cheap. Especially when you get a game over right before the save point and you got most of the equipment from all those difficult optional bosses. :x
See how that would make someone just slightly angry? :P
The only major thing that sucked about random battles, is if your party is hurting you could die (and ensue controller throwing ), and it usually ends up being at the worst times. Like you just grinded out a few levels or or leveled up magic or got a sweet new item, etc.
But that's part of the game and it makes you as a player remember that everything isn't always peachy and you gotta keep those HPs up :D

Also, let me add that I was KO'd before I could do anything. I don't have a problem with random battles, I honestly could care less if they didn't come back or not. I just don't like getting KO'd before I can say "WTF just happened? :o "(which can also happen in FFXII.
