"Lightning" is the name of FFXIII's heroine

Well, this is just a theory:

As you may have noticed in the trailer and images available, the word "Lightning" came out near the ATB... Probably because after her ATB fills up, her name appeared and that's the time you can input your commands.

I doubt if that is a spell 'coz the spell formerly called "Lightning" (1, 2 and 3) is now called Thunder/ra/ga (though we all know that thunder is very different from a lightning).

Anyway, we should also take note that in the past, Square has already used names which pertain to some elements/turbulance of nature:

FFVII - Cloud
FFVIII - Squall

What's your opinion? If ever it is really her name, do you like it?

^ That erases the chance that it is a mere spell. In the trailer she made some fire attacks and "Lightning" is still there in the menu.

yeah the name is kinda cool it matches her looks to it. but lets wait till Square made it official about the name.

When I first learned of Cloud's name, I did not think about those floating cotton balls in the sky, but with Lightning... Just don't want to grow on me. I wish we can change her name.

If it were to be lightning, I think they should spell it differently. Know what I mean?

Well in FFIX I changed Dagger to Garnet as it's her real name. I hope the final name isnt Lightning though as it is pretty uninspired. Kefkamania05

yeah the one in X-Men if we could change the name the i'll going to name her Storm :

and the name Rayne is also cool, kinda remind of Bloodrayne...

Lightning sounds wierd though. Rayne like FG said would've been a good name. But a Japanese name would have been better

Well every name has a story behind it, im sure if we heard why they are calling her lightning then we wouldn't hate it so much. Does anyone know anything else detailing her name? like what type of culture she comes from or who her relative are and what they are called? not that FFs are big on relatives

and please people tell us why you dont like her name....

lightning in japanese could anyone enlighten us? i know a lil *** but not that much. my freinds IPOD is called TSUBASA which means wings ( its cause he dropped the other ones)

kaminari （雷） is japanese for lightning+thunder combo. however, 稲妻(inazuma) is lightning and 雷鳴(raimei) is thunder if define separately. and the kanji 雷 can also be read as 'rai' usually when there are other kanjis supporting it.

 i think i did covered this topic while doing the translation for the massive FF13 scans. i don't think the name of the char. will be lightning though, even the magazine covering the story wasn't 100% percent sure that lightning is her name. while we're talking about name here, i think the closest translation for 'lightning' in this FF's case is 稲妻(inazuma).稲(ine) is rice and 妻(tsuma) is wife/better half in japanese. the char. being female and everything maybe ..just maybe. makes me wonder though..will the story be about search for grain/rice/food where the future runs out of food etc. kinda like survival for the fittest theme.

hhhhmmmmmmmm that might explain the logo where the world seems to be in the forefront, though in the trailer it seemed that wildlife is abundant.....

haha. i'm in no position to teach for my japanese isn't really that good. feel free to ask tho.. have to admit its much easier learning how to curse in other languages than to learn how to compliment in foreign languages...lol!

i use the American one cause im to cheap to import and my Japanese isn't that good, and in Australia we get a little more than Europe, alot less than America
