So... I was reading on the upcoming KH game for PSP, Birth By Sleep, when I learned of a character named Aqua. At first, I just lol'd at the utter lack of originality but the more I thought about it, the more it started to irritate me. How many weather names have they used already, and how many times do they plan on shamelessly recycling that idea? Just off the top of my head, there's...Terra, Celes, Cloud, Aeris, Squall, Tidus, Sora, Riku, Lightning, Snow, Noctis, Stella, Aqua. And I'm sure there are some that I've missed. I feel like Square-Enix is becoming a one trick pony, always the same old formula and it's getting really old. >_>

Hehe. Funny thing is, 'Storm' was the rumored name of the prince from Versus, before it was revealed to be Noctis. :P
I don't really care, but it;s annoying that their just pumping out weather like names. But hey it could always be something to do with the story or something.
I'm not sure if they really lack the originallity of choosing names for characters or perhaps it's more of a tradition to name the lead character with a weather name. I think Cloud and squall, for example, are pretty good names whether they were weather names or not, but Lightning seems a little off the border IMO, I mean, someone's name having the "ing" at the end of it makes the name kinda annoying I think.

I dont mind them at all. Most are good imo. Lightning isnt bad, its her code name anyways and not her real name... wonder if we will learn it in the game or if it will be forever a mystery.
While I'll agree they need more originality, they don't really bother me. I just hope they don't have any more FFXIII characters that have weather names. If they do, I'll bet the next one will be Cirrus (a type of cloud), but that's a pretty cool name now that I think about it.
i personaly like each ff having diffrent weather type names, its pretty cool, but i honestly belive ff15 main characters name will be gale, for some reason, it would be a cool name!

Plain names just arent catchy if you ever played Legend of the Dragoon, what kinda name is Dart? Storm & Lightning are very ill names. It isnt everyday you see that so SE just juices' up things without the boring names like Bob or Gaylord like Pla said.
IMO, the names in the FF games (all of em) are really catchy, and thats what sets it apart from other RPGs :). I mean, c'mon, its not everyday that you see a protagonist named Ramza, Cloud, Terra, Bartz, Cecil, Firion, etc. So I go for lulz no, I love em! :) FF names forever! xD

Well,the names are usually either Cid,weather,legends & myths or made-up(Which is incredibly rare) Or simply from the a certain English word itself.. (Example:AVALANCHE,SOLDIER,SeeDs...) ..But it's better than in FFI or FFIII right?I mean,in FFI their all simply called Warrior of Light and in the SNES version of FFIII their all nameless :P
