Well, lets see:

1. It was the first 3d FF game.

2. It was the first to be released in Europe and Australia.

3. It was the first to be released on a non-Nintendo system.

4. It was the first to use cutscenes.

5. It was the first to try to make the series more teen/adult oriented.

6. It is the best-selling Final Fantasy game.

It wasn't the first to use cut scenes. It was the first to use CGI cut scenes, though.

It also set a standard for how long RPGs should be (which is bullcrap) which created a mass of RPGs with superfluous and unnecessary bullcrap that serves as nothing more than time fillers to make the game longer

I think 6 already began the trend, you know, there was for example... teen pregancy, suicidal thoughts...

Final Fantasy VII just help bring the series into the mainstream light. It was a common trend amongst many games in the late 90s that help grow the industry into what it is today.

Well being 21 years old, a late gamer for the Final Fantasy series and never playing FFI - FFVI (minus FFII or FFIII on the DS. Can't remember) its hard to give a decent answer. But i think FFVII opened the door bring in a massive fan base which paved the way for FFVIII, IX and X. Its the most remember Final Fantasy game in the series for both good and bad reasons aswell as for the fans and the haters(meaning the ones who don't like it. Not meaning those who bad mouth it). I played FFX, X-2 anf FFXII before playing FFVII and even i see how great a game it is aswell as it being the most memorable game in the series. But i do think people are taking the biscuit when it comes to all this mega talk and saying its the greatest game or RPG out there. Which is rubbish. But it is 1 of very, very few games that i personally will be keeping for as long as i live. If my PS disk version breaks then i will just buy it on the PS store on the PS3. Same goes for the future.

It would have been Final Fantassy III since II was not released for the DS. I would highly recommend going back and playing Final Fantasy IV, V and VI, though. That is, easily, the best set of games in the series

Yeah but unless they all get remade, i wont get the opportunity to play them. If they're anything like FFIII then they'll just bore me. Too easy and very short. I like a game that take me longer to complete than completing in under 48 hours. FFXIII 100+ hours.

IV was remade for the DS. It is also avaliable on the SNES (Inder the name FFII), on the PSone and on the GBA. V is avaliable for both the GBA and the PSone. It isn't hard to find. FFVI is avaliable for the SNES (Under the name FFIII), on the PSone and on the GBA. It isn't hard to find either (unless you want to SNES version)

I'm not elitist. I have no problem with people liking games that I don't like. I just like to voice my opinion in the most sadistic and/or sarcastic way possible. I'm sorry if that comes off as me putting others down, but that's just how I am.

*ahem* I will have you know that I believe Final Fantasy VII to be the single most overrated game of all time. I love IX and XII a LOT

For the record, I enjoy VIII and IX. I'm just not at all fond of VII. Anyway, I don't type in 1337 like that.

For the record, I hate VIII. I would rather play Dirge of Cerberus again than play VIII. It is less painful because it is a lot shorter

Thanks valereth-1 but i dont really have the cash to throw away buying consoles and the earlier FFs in the series. Though i would love to get them. *shruggs* Guys calm it and remember where you are. If you have things to say to eachother that the rest of us dont want to see and the officers dont want to mop up (and really shouldnt have to) then just PM eachother and maybe get a suspension. If you cant respect eachothers opinions then dont put your opinions forward. Its really as simple as that. I dont agree with what valereth-1 has said about most of the FFs, but i'm not commenting on his opinion. Afterall, its his to have. Lifes too short.

^ Nice input there junky. ;) Let's make peace, not war. :P

Before FFVII was released, there are already several awesome RPGs out there like the great Chrono Trigger and the likes of The Secret of Mana, FFVI, Super Mario RPG and the simple, yet very much enjoyable Earthbound. However, it is only after the release of FFVII that RPGs really made it into the mainstream video game industry.. Making it a very essential and major force in the success of video game consoles and handhelds. In fact, FFVII is the single most important investment (aside from the first FF) ever that made Squaresoft (now Square Enix) a behemoth in the world of video games.

You do not have a Playstation 1, 2 or 3 or a Gameboy Advance or a DS? :| You have to have a DS. You said you played FFIII on the DS. It plays GBA games.

It made the series popular, and for Europeans and Australians, (Say what you want you North American snobs, these people count) it was their first FF. Before 7, Final Fantasy was a cult-RPG series selling only a few million copies, 7 made the series renouned throughout the world.

valereth-1 the DS and FFIII was my friends that i borrowed so i could play the 3rd FF in the series. I used to own a PS and PS2 but unfortunately everything my little brothers touched would mysteriously break. Getting a PS in scotland is surprisingly difficult. May have to check ebay. I have a PS3 and FFXIII. Also own FFVII (PS), FFVIII (PS3, bought on PS store), FFIX(same as FFVIII), FFX(PS2 but cant play), FFX-2(PS2) and FFXII(PS2). I also own a Sega Mega Drive lol. FG nice use of the Behemoth in reference to size in regards to the series inwhich it lives. Wow that was a mouthful lol.

Then get them for the Playstation 1. They will work on the PS3
