FF

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is launching in Japan in less than a month. Its US release will follow in late January. The fact that Final Fantasy has been topping the sales charts around the world for two decades makes it a rare and hallowed creation in the transitory medium of video gaming. But who's playing it these days? Are today's Final Fantasy fans the ones who started with the original game, or did those guys get tired of the whole thing along the way only to be replaced by youngsters who started playing more recently? Have you been playing Final Fantasy long? What drew you to the series? What keeps you playing? Or, alternately, why have you given up on the franchise?

i have been playing since like... 1998 or something... I like to play because games like FF7 8 and 9 totally changed my idea of gaming in general.. It was a special feeling playing through those games for the first time... I remember final fantasy 8 was the first I played and the mission in galbadia is just epic... My first run in final fantasy 8 lasted about 6 hours lmao.. I was hooked since... I beat ff8, I beat ff7.. then I went back and beat them both again and got all the goodies ;) Then final fantasy 9 came out.. and I got that as soon as it dropped... It was amazing.. Greatest most anticipated and fullfilling release of all time...

I only played through final fantasy 9 once.. but I took my time, I left no stone unturned.. This was around the time I was introduced to naruto and I was watching alot of that.. I decided there must be some decent games before final fantasy 7 I have not yet tried... I purchased final fantasy chronicles... This collection piece consists of Final Fantasy IV and chronotrigger... these games were beyond my expectations, a perfect introduction to the retro games... My friend introduced me to finalfantasy tactics and I was blown away...

I then bought myself final fantasy one, two and three for my gameboy.. I'm pretty sure this is around the time I bought FFX....

Once AGAIN I was completely blown away.. final fantasy changed my idea of gaming again... FFX, FFX-2.. the kingdom hearts series.... omg I still have not foound better games.. I played through FFx and X-2 about 3 times each to this day..... LOL

It seemed like forever for 12 to come out.. this is when I bought the final fantasy anthology this contains FF5 and FF6.. I also got a final fantasy 11 however it was not my thing...

FF12 dropped and once again I was totally consumed.. this game was amazing.. i dont care the battle, and weapon systems were great.. I loved hunting for marks.. I completely hunted down every last mark omg This game was epic.

I THINK I PLAY FINAL FANTASY BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING ELSE LIKE IT.... I THINK THE STORY IS NUMBER 1 FOR ME, THEN GAMEPLAY, I LOVE FF ALL THE STORIES ARE GOOD IN THEIR OWN WAY.

now I'm playing through final fantasy 13, trying to beat it before FF13-2 comes out.. The series is changed again for the better and the future i bright... FFXIII-2 and versus promise to be the best yet.

It could be observational learning. I watched my mom play it throughout my childhood and I played it. My uncle played it as well. I startd playing in 1997...Final Fantasy VII. My mom had played IV and VI and got VII. I ended up getting into this game and I was bad at it but with each day I made progress further in the game. Final Fantasy VII was not only my first Final Fantasy but my first game as well. The game was my childhood. Now everytime I play it I am flooded with memories. Not only this game but FFVIII as well. My mom went and got this one soon as it came out. I played it as well. Then IX I got one birthday of mine. Final Fantasy tactics also took up my memories from childhood. I was bad at tactics more so then the others but still liked watching my mom play. My attention span was a little low at 4 so I had trouble playing tactics at that age. I love the ending of VII perhaps my favorite. I loved the music:Jenova and one winged angel...I also liked the music when fighting Bizarro Sephiroth(forget what it was called).. Back to the ending, the look on sephiroth when he suffers defeat and the whole swinging of the arms..I was saying take that Sephiroth. Then X came out and I loved it and it took up my memories. I was excited for X-2 and my hopes were maybe too high cause I was dissapointed but It is a good game to me still. I was still dissapointed. Then I did not play XI when it came out. When XII came out I got it on the day of and was dissapointed at the battle system at first but I love the game now. I also bought many side stories like DIRGE OF CERBURUS(The best) jk. SO on and so on Of course I played the old ones too...but VI and IV were the only ones there for a while.

So you know the backstory...the reason I play it is for many reasons for one I am attached to it and all the yearas of playing it has conditioned me to jump at the sight of a good FF or new instalment. except for MMOs...The good story and the good villians, beautiful environments, and awesome music etc...To this day I love Final Fantasy music better then any other music from video games. Final Fantasy was the way I thought of games..and still is. There may be many RPGS but nothing beats FInal Fantasy.

Well I first started playing Final Fantasy in 2001 with Final Fantasy VIII. My older cousin got me into Final Fantasy when I stayed over his house. He wouldn't let me play it so I waited till it was my b day and asked for a PSX with Final Fantasy VIII and Tekken 3. Because of the PSX JRPGs became one of my favorite genre with SquareSoft being my go to publishers. Reasons I keep playing is simple I enjoyed everything I've played from them though there were things I disliked Like X getting rid of the world map. Only real disappointment I've had are with there recent titles and I think it would be stupid to give up for one blunder SE had with the main series.

I fell for Final Fantasy the first time I saw it before I even knew what it was. I had my first taste of playing about 10 years ago with 9 and I've collected all main series titles since and now I only have to play through more of the titles but I will always love Final Fantasy and I'm sure they will all be great as I treat each game as its own entity apart from its series or genre and in the end I think I won't be disappointed. ;)

My first was FFVIII, this game charmed me in a way I've never imagined, I always said MGS is the best game ever, until I've played VIII, at that time I wasn't using GameSpot nor any rating site, but the retailer recommended it and said it's amazing, I was shocked to know that it's a 4 discs game, said to myself "What the Hell is all these disc are for" it was my first 4 discs game, and the game was truly amazing, it really have changed my gaming mentality forever, I started to care more for RPGs specially FFs, till now I've only played VII, VIII, IX, X, and Tactics, time isn't fair with me and I'm still struggling with it.

Well I keep playing FFs cause they are amazing games, the environments, CGIs, Characters, Story, Music, absolutely everything, I love all the details, even those who might not be clear, like when Squall catch the Ragnarok in space, they are applying real physics to make it realistic, Squall was flouting in space till he catches the airship, in that specific moment his body are no longer affected by outer space gravity, instead he's now affected by the Ragnarok gravity, the ship was rotating and instantly Squall and Rinoa became part of that body, the same thing happening to us as the earth rotate, do we feel the rotation of the earth? No cause we are stuck to it, not everyone notice these things, but they work very hard on some of the details, I don't think I'll ever quit FFs, I'm waiting eagerly for Versus now :).

I started playing in '98 with FFVII. A friend of mine at the time bought it, and couldn't figure it out. I helped many times with the puzzles in Resident Evil, so he had me try FFVII. I was hooked and he gave the game to me. Ended up he didn't like it ( still can't figure out why)

Anyway I'm currently replaying VII. I'm in  chapter 13 of XIII (Need to finish before XIII-2 comes out :P )

I eventually want to get all the games I can off of PSN. I own VII (PSN) VIII (original copy ) IX (PSN) and XIII. I HAD X and X-2, but I gave those to my mom after beating them 3 times each.

I have VII-IX and tactics on the PSN and if I have time/feel like getting into it tonight then I think I'm going to start VII. I tried starting it before but only got a few hours in. Did you get 100% in either of those 3 playthroughs Raven?

Because of the stories, gameplay, characters and basically just because it's fun.

I second what smart said and I did start VII tonight. Now I just need to keep up with it and I'll be good. Didn't play for all that long though so currently I just got Aerith away from Reno.

I started playing in 2006 starting with Final Fantasy VII and I really got hooked, and that probably lead me into the world of gaming, to be honest. Once I playef Final Fantasy VII I was in love with videogames and the Final Fantasy series, and I simply really enjoy the deep emotional and well-told storylines each game features. The stories are never a disappointment in a Final Fantasy game, neither are the visuals, but sometimes the gameplay's enjoyment can vary. (Final Fantasy XIII)
