I think you should. They are pretty cheap and have nice exclusives as well as some great 3rd party games. I have not went next-gen yet due to the high prices and I still play my GC on a daily basis. So what kind of games are you into so I can refer you to some great games and what ones to avoid.
If he wanted a Wii, he would have gone to the Wii boards. What if he only wants to play GC games and does not want a Wii. Whats the point in throwing down $250 if he just wants a few handful GC games? What if he is saving up for a 360 or PS3 and would like to play GC games, I say get the cheaper GC and save up for something like a 360 or a PS3 because the Wii's graphics dont cut it and it has no games that appeal to my favor.
As for me I am staying with the GC until the end of this year and I am saving up for a 360. So while I am at it, I can enjoy all of the GC cames that I like without plopping down $250 for another GC.
Like this guy said, he is not a big fan of Nintendo so it is utterly pointless for him to shell out so much cash just to play some GC games, he is probably saving up for a real next gen system.
Ive never really been a big fan of Nintendo, but I liked some of there games. Im not ready to spend money on a next-gen system quite yet. So should i buy a gamecube? RE4 looks good and so does MGS ts, and all of the mario games. Also does the Gamecube have any kind of online?War_has_changedLOL gamecubes dead dude, get yourself a Ps2 for 130 buxx its still alive and has some great titles.. it won the last gen war
Absolutely not. Your better off spending the extra money and buying a Wii. Plus, if there is nothing out for Wii right now then just play GC games until something good comes outPhilzilla28
Wow thats some good advice. Tell the guy to cough up $250 just to play GC games when he could pay $60-$99. What if he does not want to play Wii games? If this dude is serious about the Wii the should go ahead and get it but from my perspective he does seems not to want to pay too much money just to play GC games and never buy a Wii game.
If as you've already said that you are not interested in buying a next gen console just yet, then I would look into buying a cheap second hand Gamecube and then buy some games for it. I've seen prices for about £25/$50 upwards.
When you decide later on to get maybe a Wii then you can use all those Gamecube games that you've already got on your new console.
the gamecube doesn't have any online games.
But its still a good deal to get, only about $50,
and plus games are pretty cheap now.
also if you get a gameboy player you can play gba games on your gamecube which is a bonus.summer_star17x
Ever heard of Phantasy Star Online I, II or III? Not many have heard of 'Homeland' but that too was an online game for the Gamecube (Japan only however).
Also 'Warp pipe' allowed a few other titles to be played online.
Nah, get a GameCube. I still recommend it. It's much cheaper, it supports the Game Boy Player, and it has plenty of great games. So what if the Wii is backwards compatible with GC games? The Wii has very few of it's own games that are actually good.
I just bought a Gamecube yesterday and it does seem to me to really be worth the money. A sale at my local Toy's R Us was what made me cave in. The sale was that for $100 you'd get the system, a game worth $19.99, and a memory card. To me it seemed like a rather good deal considering that the games that I really wanted to play on the Wii (if I got that) were Twilight Princess and Super Paper Mario, both of which are ports from Gamecube games that are pretty much just spruced up.
My situation was that I really did want to buy a Wii (I still somewhat do), but I really did not want to go through the hassel of finding a Wii with how they are still rather hard to find in stores. I've read much about the the game drout that the Wii seems to currently be suffering and well I also thought about how I would like to play Gamecube games on that system if I seemed to experience that myself.
If I bought everything seperately that would have been $10 for the memory card, $20 for Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and $25 for a controller. All of that adds up to $55. For just about $50 more I got a great deal because in the future I can use these things on a Wii if I ever buy one, but in the meantime I can play on this great system and know my money isn't going to waste. I've spent about 3-4 hours playing Paper Mario since yesterday and I really don't regret my decision.
In short:
-I believe the Gamecube is a good deal
-There are some really great games that don't cost much
-It has fun games (which is what really matters)
Guess it depends on dollars you want to spend. It's easy to say just get a Wii.....but I personally just bought a Gamecube myself. Got a Gamecube, RE4, Rogue Squadron, Mario Sunshine, NBA Live 06 for about $60. All that for about the cost of just 1 new game on the "next-gen" systems.
I'm not a hard-core gamer. Just wanted something to play with my 6 year old and get a little enjoyment out of without having to break the bank. I think I'm gonna get alot of mileage of out the $60 I just spent. Granted, it's not the next best thing....but these games will hold me over for awhile. And there are probably quite a few other games I'll be able to get for dirt cheap. Heck, we've been playing my old 8 bit NES so the Gamecube will probably feel like a next-gen system to me.
I spent alot of time debating before buying and feel like I made a good choice. Isn't like it's a huge risk spending only $60 for a pretty good bundle. $600 or $800 would be a different story though.
