Id say time splitters
Can't go wrong with TimeSplitters 2, great sci-fi weaponry with WWII-period guns mixed in, and yes, the characters are funny and intimidating at the same time, and the levels are big and multi-dimensional, although they don't have the depth of Halo. However, I personally prefer Medal of Honor: Frontline. TS2 takes some serious man hours to get good at, and even then luck plays a big factor. Frontline is a lot more accessible and evenly-matched. But you should definitely play/own both.
