In order for a game that has our favorite horror characters to exist, the gameplay needs to be fun and have depth. I don't think under any circumstances that an adventure game would work because the game would lack depth. Eventually, dispatching Elm Street children and campers in the woods would get old. So the only option left would be to put all the horror guys together in a fighting game and add some cool finishing moves similar to those of the Mortal Kombat franchise from Midway.

Put in a deep fighting engine with tons of combos and have the graphics up to the standards of both the PS3 and 360, and you got yourself a game. I truly don't understand why this hasn't been done before. Imagine, a fighing game with all the popular horror characters such as Jason Voorhees, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers and even Leatherface duking it out in a fighting system similar to that of DOA or something.

Thoughts?

The reason it hasn't happened is simply because no single film studio owns all the rights to all the horror characters you just listed. When you get into talks with numerous film studios, things are bound to fall apart.

Unfortunately smerlus is right, but it would be a cool idea. I also like the ida of getting Vincent Price in there. There could be old movie monsters in there too. The Creature from the Black Lagoon, or the Fly for example. I suppose they could do like War of the Monsters and just have characters that closely resembled characters from the movies. Teddy vs Justin. We can always dream right!

I had the same idea when I was a kid, rumor was there actually was going to be a game like that but it never happened.

Personally, it would be cool to see the Leprechaun fight Chucky.

I think it'd be great if it was gory but not too much. Remember, too much gore might cause controversy and maybe an AO rating.

The reason it hasn't happened is simply because no single film studio owns all the rights to all the horror characters you just listed. When you get into talks with numerous film studios, things are bound to fall apart.smerlus
It can't be THAT difficult for studios to get the rights for all those guys could it? Maybe New Line could just say "Listen, we got this great idea for a video game with all these guys. What do ya say? You guys will get equal share for profit."

yea, but it would take a while what the equal share is. See, the movie studios have varying amounts of good horror characters.

Good luck sorting out the legal mess that would come from liscensing all those characters. Not to mention, they'd have a hell of a time balancing out the game because Pinhead would own them all.

lol Pinhead is wack. I'm sure developers would figure out a way to balance everyone, minus the legal issues.

DarkStalkers had all my favourite horror movie characters I wanted, werewolf, vampire, mummy, frankenstein monster, demons, merman, catwoman, succubus, etc. I wish capcom made a new 3D version of DarkStalkers (minus the artstyle of SF IV)

I would really love it if they did make a fighting game featuring every horror character from the horror films. I'm sure they could agree on who gets the license somehow, maybe all of them can share it, I don't get why the movie company's would make such a big deal over a license for a simple game. If they do make one though then the characters who I want in it are: Freddy Krueger Jason Voorhees Michael Myers(the classic version though, not the annoying brat from Rob Zombie's crappy remake) Chucky Pinhead Leatherface Ash Williams(yeah he's not really a boogeyman but he is part of the horror genre and is pretty badass so that counts, right?) Ghostface Candyman Leprechaun Hannibal Lecter Maniac Cop Norman Bates Carrie Andre The Butcher Harry Warden The Creeper The Clown from "It" Herbert West Fisherman The game should also be pretty gory and each character should have their own beginning match and victory taunts from the movies. And the ones who talk could say something from the films like Ash's "Do you see this? this is my BOOMSTICK!" and Freddy's "Welcome to my Nightmare". The game should also feature some unlockable characters as well like Tiffany, Ginger Bread Man, Dracula, Wolfman, Jack The Ripper, etc. and some of the characters should have alt. attires like you already start out as undead Jason(the Jason we all know now) but his alt. look can be his classic look from part 3 when he was human with an ax instead of his machete and you already play as scarred up Chucky in the game but he can also have his classic look from the original child's play films as his alt. look. It would also be pretty cool if there was a create your own boogeyman feature in the game and max out his fighting style and powers and stuff.

Like SciFiCat said, play Darkstalkers. Its the closest you'll get.

I don't think that Movie licensed characters such as, Chucky, Freddy, Michael Myers etc... would be totally out of the question. Just look at what Capcom has done recently by bringing over Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom.

I wish that Frachise would get more attention.
