FFVI, FFVII, FFVIII, and FFX. If you can't get any of those than try chrono trigger or secret of mana. Or just go to gamerankings and take a look at some of the best rpgs on the ps1 and SNES.

For PC if you're into the whole Dungeons & Dragons kind of stuff theres Baldur's Gate I & II, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment, Neverwinter Nights. If your more into Sci-Fi than swords and sorcery type stuff then you could look into Fallout 1 & 2.

For the consoles the NES is where things like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest/Warrior started off. But they'll probably come off as pretty primative now. My favorite Final Fantasy is 6. which came out on the SNES and PS1. For the PS1 it was part of the Final Fantasy Anthology that came with Final Fantasy 5 as well. I know PS1 wasn't listed. But since PS2 and PS3 were I figure you should have a way to play PS1 games. I find Final Fantasy 7 to be over-rated but you may want to check it out to see what all the fuss is about. Vangrant Story was a good PS1 RPG as well. Chrono Trigger can be had on the PS1 as well in Final Fantasy Chronicles which also included Final Fantasy IV.

For PS2 I'd reccommend Dragon Quest 8. But theres a decent amount of level grinding to do in it. Persona 3 FES is you want something thats very Japanese, set in modern times and deals with demons and the like. Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance If the D&D world interests you.

For PS3, uh, nothing at this time.

no. all the main FFs are independent. the only FFs that have relation with others are the sequels (FF X-2, FF: revenant wings, etc)

There is always Final Fantasy games 7, 9, 10, or 12 are all great and you dont need to play any previous ones to understand it. Also Knights of the old Republic.

Crono Trigger, is a great game to start with RPGs, after that i recommend you either Tales of Symphonia or FFVIII.

FFVIII is probably a little too complex for a beginning RPG player.

Star Tropics on NES, then maybe Ultima 8: Pagan on PC if you can find it/run it, and then Rogue Galaxy on PS2.

If you like Mario, then get Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven stars, great game! And it is pretty simple to understand, too.

FFIV, great story, and the gameplay is again, not hard for anyone new to RPG's to understand.

Chrono trigger is also a pretty good game, I would highly recommend it.

I'd recommend either Final Fantasy Chronicles(includes FFIV and Chrono Trigger, I'd play CT first) or Final Fantasy X.

For your question about Crisis Core, it's a prequel to Final Fantasy VII.

Well, my first was Grandia. I absolutely loved it, I was around 10 then, but I still love it at 17 now :D

But for a first time RPG in this day and age, I'd say you can't go wrong with Final Fantasy X. You can get it for cheap for one thing. FF7 is great but it's VERY expensive so if I were you I'd make sure you like the RPG style before making a big purchase. FFX has great graphics and a pretty good storyline. There's not a lot of exploration it's pretty simple to know where to go and what to do, but still fun.

I'd also reccommend Grandia II as a starter- this is another series where you don't have to play the first ones to play the second or third each title is independent. The story in this one starts a bit slow but you'll get REALLY into it.

Chrono Cross is a bit different, but in a good way. I'd reccommend it as a second or third one after these. This an old one but you can get it for cheap off ebay.

Have Fun!

I would go with any of the Final Fantasy games, but I would say start out with the "newer"(FFVII-FFXII) games first before going to the old school ones.

Since you have a PC, pick up Chrono Trigger or get it on the PS1. That was the first RPG I played and it made me fall in love with the genre and jrpgs.
